Remember, we all need a CUV every 2 inches of length. This will be the low cost entry like the Venue. AWD was not mentioned in the press release. I think some media outlets are speculating.2 points

It's pretty hard to write a check out for 'percentage units'. Mercedes' as a mathematical computation of their generally higher ATPs, cost more in depreciation dollars than the vast majority of cars. You can lose $85,000 in 3 years on some models.2 points

An electric motor, carbon fiber body BMW supercar would be a good play. And be a halo for future EV's after the craptastic i3 and i8 bombed.2 points

I guess climate change is not real. OK...climate change IS real, but NOT because of humanity...because the history of the planet tells us that its just a normal part of the Earth's life cycle I guess its foolish to think that humans could influence millions of years of Earth's evolution... But then again...humans could actually create life...the way Earth created life millions of years ago...and it only took humans a mere 10 000 years to accomplish that...so yeah...its foolish to think that humans could interfere with Earth's life cycles...(sarcasm) EVs...are just a part of a solution that humans think is the right thing to do...with the information we have today. JUST like how we used to kill whales for their blubber to make oil to heat our houses and we saw that this was not a good solution to keeping us warm when we discovered oil... NOW...oil is becoming the focus so we do NOT extinct ourselves... JUST like how we used to use paper bags for our groceries and saw that we are killing our forests...we banned that practice for plastic, but now was saw that THAT solution is not good, se we are reverting back to...paper... And THAT last one seems like a good argument for oil usage for our cars...but... ICE pollutes... Whether we like it or not... ICE pollutes... There is no: We gotta find a BETTER solution for our transportation needs... I stand by that comment whether anyone wants to agree with it or not... But...I got Los Angeles, Beijing, Athens, London on my side... SMOG from ICE...2 points

Not with that drivetrain... But...ya'll gotta admit. The average Lexus owner does not care about that stuff. While the drivetrain is antiquated, the average Lexus owner believes in this mantra: "If it aint broke, dont fix it." Reliable? I dont know enough about Toyota SUV products to comment on that. But I do know that there are certain SUVs from Toyota that are bullet proof. Again...the same mantra goes for reliability regarding Lexus owners: "If it aint broke, dont fix it." So...while we can argue about passionately about Lexus products...their business model is passionless...and it works just fine for them. What I find Lexus is missing the mark, is they want to infuse a little bit of passion in their designs and Predator Face just falls flat...2 points

Since when did talking about a Lexus product become soooo....passionate?2 points

Such hypocrites.. Everybody here will ask for more power from a V8 that only puts out 300 ponies until that works for your personal narrative against smk. Everybody knows the combo of V8 + 300hp + 15/18mpg is dated as all hell. Those are literally pre-recession kind of numbers. It only has 64.7 cubic of space behind the driver.. A Chevy Equinox has 63.5 cubic feet of volume behind the driver's row. It better be reliable because it does literally nothing else very well or even adequate for the price they're selling for.2 points

I gotta say, the Hyundai Venue is cute, but this is really handsome and much more attractive! Kia and Hyundai are doing a good job keeping their brands distinct from each other and not being just badge jobs.2 points

Ford put a rear wing on 2019 Mustang GT which is purely cosmetic, it is neutral aerodynamically. That really pisses me off actually, I don't think it is that great looking and if you would do that, at least give it a little bit of functionality.2 points

Depreciation when used as how one model or brand devalues faster than another is just marketing bullshyte... Its what you value... If you value one brand over another, you pay more for that used car... Here we are...praising the merits of depreciation so we could buy that used car of our dreams, on the cheap...stretching our dollar value... yet we are praising the lower depreciation values of some brands over others... ILLOGICAL argument to me... In fact...when there is a trade-in to be made at the stealership... The stealership...will ALWAYS find problems with your car, no matter WHAT make it is...to DEVALUE your car so they could give you LESS money for it... Lexus, Cadillac, Chevrolet.....it dont matter...in a trade-in...deprecation means diddly squat. On a Lexus...the stealership WILL find defects to DEVALUE your beloved, low depreciation LEXUS. On a Cadillac, it may or may not be a reason....but the same problems that plague the Lexus will be used on your Cadillac to DEVALUE it... Then, in turn...you refuse to trade in your LOWER depreciating car as compared to the HIGHER depreciating models, so you sell it privately in hoping you get a sucker to buy into that reliability game so you could get top dollar for your car, which then makes YOU the sleazy salesman...because YOU dont want to be the sucker at the stealership. Irony... Its just a game...this brand depreciates faster than that brand... Its a marketing gimmick...that the Japanese makers have used... Its a GREAT tool... But to me...like I said... A daily driven car over a certain period of time is worth the same as any other daily driven car with the same time elapsed... I wouldnt want to buy a used 3-4 year old car that was once a high priced vehicle....I would rather buy a NEW car that is "worth" the same... Because...THAT is it...to me...a used car, may NOT be worth the asking price...depending how maintained it was. How much damage it sustained... Nobody knows what the original owner did to that car. Yes...everybody has bought a GREAT used car that was driven by a little old lady driving to church once a week. It was driven ONLY to church and the church happened to ex-communicate her as well... And what value to you place on a car like that? If it was a Lexus? If it was a Cadillac? Like I said...its a game...1 point

The consumer public will not be satisfied until there are 1,000 crossovers available for under $30,000. And 1,000 more for above $30,000.1 point
-
Part of that reason is the overall consumer's perception of Cadillac versus...lets say...Lexus. (Given Cadillac's missteps of the past...haunting Cadillac over and over and over again) Another reason is the marketing bullshyte that some manufacturer's marketing department spews over and over and over again about depreciation...again...lets say...Lexus...so the overall perception of Lexus versus Cadillac favours Lexus... A 10 year old daily driven car in Quebec that has over 150 000 miles, no matter what brand and make it is, is worth the same...to me at least... Because it will have the same rust issues, the same wear and tear on its steering and suspenions due to shytty, pot holed roads... So...whether you buy a 80 000 dollar Cadillac, Mercedes...or a 20 000 dollar Ford or Honda, or a 40 000 dollar Buick, Volvo...after 10 years daily driven in Montreal, for me at least, will be worth at most 2000 dollars... That is why I dont look at used cars in Quebec... Depreciation is great...like you said.... I could get a great deal on a used 3-4 year old Mercedes... But why would I wanna do that? I would rather buy a new car...the same price as that 3-4 year old Mercedes...a brand new Ford... I dont value badges... I value NEW...1 point

https://www.wheels.ca/news/jay-leno-auto-collection/ A car guy...JAY LENO... HE sees it... HE tells it like it is... THERE IS A MESSAGE in that little paragragh. SEVERAL messages...its up to you guys to figure it out... But the message is LOUD and CLEAR to what I JUST SAID and Jay Leno backs me up!!! In fact....Jay Leno made me realize it.... Him and others... No politician....no whack job scientist for or against climate change... But real deal people that have an idea of what is going on... Some of those are car guys, some of them are scientists with no clear bias...for and against climate change...because I listen to all...but these guys I listen to ONLY present the facts...NOT their opinions... And its easy for me to figure out...because I am informed... But hey... lets continue the way we are going...nothing bad could happen, right?1 point

That's very true, but it has one more thing besides reliability that I personally like - it is a real off road capable truck. I know that 99% of the owners will never take it off road and that it drives like a dinosaur compared to X5 or GLE. But it is based on a very popular and capable Land Cruiser Prada, it is very reliable and very capable off road, and it makes it desirable to me personally. I wish it would be less ugly though and have the looks of the truck it based on but all manufacturers now have to have one corporate design now days. Lexus does need something more modern to compete with BMW or MB. Plenty of people though grab used ones after soccer moms are done with them and make real off road rigs1 point

Bingo..as long as the power is sufficient, it's fine. Lexus owners aren't getting into pissing contests over 0-60 with M-B leasers or internet obsessives. With Lexus, it's about quiet and reliability. Nothing wrong with that being the priority. I wouldn't mind having an older LS or 1st gen SC, w/ the V8.1 point
-
Your ignoring a key item here, the BULK of Lexus owners could CARE LESS about the HP / Torque of their engines in comparison to the butter smooth and VERY QUIETness of the auto with long term reliability. I know this to be true as I have been asking folks here in the office who own Lexuses if they feel it needs more power and so far NO ONE has told me they wish the Lexus auto they drive needs more power. So then what is it about their auto as to why they bought it? RELIABILITY Whether you believe it or not, the Marketing machine of Lexus has that front and center in the mind of the customer.1 point

Chrysler published an engineering paper on the directional stability & resistance to cross-wind benefits of tail fins in '57. Chryslers had large, vertical fins, and apparently the data was sound. I haven't ever seen this paper, but I've heard that the one detail that was left out is that the cars had to be going over 100 MPH for this benefit to come into play. Not withstanding that the 300-C was a 140+ MPH car, this seems unlikely to be put to the test in any real world scenarios. I imagine a similar circumstance exists for MOST sedan rear spoilers (and by extension: cross-drilled rotors).1 point

Currently I have been cracking up at the various shows on Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and Youtube TV where they add motor sounds to an auto and you can tell that the auto never had a motor like that especially all the fake V8 motor sounds being applied to Hybrid / ev auto's. Funniest lately was the first few seasons of "The 100" where they have this old made new Jeep Wrangler that is supposed to be an EV with solar panels on the roof for quick recharging and yet every time it took off, they would add V8 engine sound to is and then the rest of the time you have the traditional EV motor wine. Too funny,1 point

Saw maybe the oddest car chase in a long time in a tv show/movie the other evening. It was .between a dirty cop in an '85 Mustang LX convertible being chased by criminals in a Nissan Leaf. (the Leaf eventually drained it's battery).. The Mustang was specifically mentioned as being a 5.0, a 302, but didn't have 5.0 badges. This was in the new Amazon streaming series 'Too Old to Die Young', a very long, very slow paced, very violent and strange trip from director/writer Nicholas Winding Refn (the Dutch auteur behind 2011's 'Drive' which had a couple good car chases and a great soundtrack). This show reminded me of David Lynch at his oddest but maybe less surreal.1 point

The 2 is probably their purest product, a compact sports coupe without luxury car pretense. It's about the same size as the 80s-90s 3 series also.1 point

I also like the 2 Series. Strangely enough, I like it because its the only BMW currently for sale that captures what BMW is was all about. I was never a fan of the BMW experience but it seems I always go against the grain with what is popular for BMW. I always like the opposite of what BMW produces that is popular for the most part.1 point

If we are going to take this literally, a vehicle is an inanimate object. Therefore passion is non-existent by definition. So...literally speaking...if one wants emotion for his/her transportation, then a horse or donkey or camel is the only way to go... If...we are going to humanize inanimate objects...then it doesnt really matter what we find passionate. We get it, you dont like electric power for whatever dumb ass reason... And I respect your stance on you not finding electric power passionate... But Tesla owners ARE passionate about their cars...so you maybe, for you and you only, electric cars are not passionate, That statement is false...in more than one way... So down vote this post to your heart's content and tell me there are too many words in it for you to read and understand...1 point

Way to completely miss the point. The point being that all luxury cars, from Infiniti to Cadillac to Mercedes, have $h! resale value. Just though you may have missed the fact the Benz suffers the same devaluation fate as the rest of them. For the record, the Q sells for 3,000 less than the E Class while offering a V6 standard (with 100 more HP) as opposed to a 241 HP turbo 4. Just sayin’1 point

And proving his trolling tendencies once again while answering not a damn thing. You say “sure do” yet you don’t actually offer said proof. More trolling I guess. Feel free to make another whimsical comment while lying about what you just told me not even a day ago. It’s what children do. Hey ccap, I mean SMK. Pay attention. I never said all things old were reliable. I gave you two perfect examples ones that were though, including the one of which this thread is about. If you’re going to move the damn bar like that, just say so I’m advance. And based on your GX logic why would anyone have paid six figures for a German Jeep that had not changed (for the most part) for three decades? Again, you fail when you single out something you don’t like while ignoring the one you do like. For the record, that ancient GX gets better MPGS than that $125K G-Wagon. Surely the “best or nothing” can do better.1 point
-
It isn't about trusting a 10 year old GX, it is why would anyone pay $53K or more for a GX that has the same engine it had 10 years ago. On the XT6 thread most of us were saying they need an option powertrain because 310 hp isn't enough. Well the XT6 has 9 more hp than the GX460 and probably beats it by 5 mpg easily. Old isn't reliable. The Dodge Journey is old, that isn't reliable or quality made.1 point

Rotor size & number of pistons is one (valid) thing. No trucks are seeing the level of hard usage that would require cross-drilling - of no benefit on street-driven vehicles.1 point

You have actual specific evidence that the owners were flushing transmissions, replacing shocks and struts, flushing cooling system, every 50k... like it is in those old manuals? Then not last 100k miles? I'm sorry but it is impossible to believe that.1 point

Neither are great for long term resale... but I'd trust a 10 year old GX more in a normal daily use routine. It's one of those vehicles that you can see going to 300k miles and the biggest issue on it is that the leather seats are starting to crack.1 point

Contrary to whatever you may think, no one is trying to piss you off. You do a fine enough of pissing yourself off. Example: you focus on the piss itself as opposed the manner by which it is actually useful. It just proves my statement about those who only want to find the negative in things they fear. Yes, I said it. Fear.1 point

I will quote the link I posted above as this is out of Seattle Gates Foundation. Urine powered batteries The Bill Gates Foundation is funding further research by Bristol Robotic Laboratory who discovered batteries that can be powered by urine. It’s efficient enough to charge a smartphone which the scientists have already shown off. But how does it work? Using a Microbial Fuel Cell, micro-organisms take the urine, break it down and output electricity. Guess if it can clean up DIRTY DIESEL, Urine can also help power the Future!1 point

I agree with you on Demolition Man, Ninety Eight. It featured 17 of GM's most current concept cars from the late '80s up through 1992. The GM Ultralite concept was even picked to be the "star car" of the movie - they made 20 fiberglass models with full running gear to be used as police cars and civilian models and then one of them was used in the 1999 Robin Williams movie Bicentennial Man while another was used in an episode of NBC's SeaQuest DSV: Here is a picture from filming of the GM concept cars used: Let's identify the 17 shown in the photo: Front Row - GM Lean Machine Second Row (L-R) - Pontiac Sunfire [1990], Pontiac Banshee [1988], Buick WildCat [1985], GM Ultralite [1991] (trivia - they were badged as a Chevrolet for the movie) Third Row (L-R): Oldsmobile pre-production Aurora [1992], Pontiac ProtoSport 4 [1991], Corvette Stingray III [1992], Oldsmobile AreoTech II [1989] Fourth Row (L-R): California IROC-Z Camaro [1989], Cadillac Aurora [1990], Pontiac Salsa [1989] Back Row (R-L): Cadillac Voyage [1988], Cadillac Solitaire [1989], GM HX3 Hybrid Van [1990], Chevrolet Venture [1988], UNKNOWN-white concept car (possibly the Buick Sceptre [1991]?) Another vehicle featured in the opening "1997" portion of the film was not a GM vehicle at the time but would eventually be sold under the GM banner: the 1991 AMG HMMWV (aka Humvee and Hummer H1). Can you tell I'm a fan of this movie?1 point

Bullitt, Vanishing Point, Duel, Blues Brothers, The Driver, Ronin are all favorites of mine. Films that had a great chase but weren't really 'car films' that I like include French Connection, The Seven Ups, and To Live and Die in LA. Racing-themed films that I love are Grand Prix, Le Mans, Winning...looking forward to Rush.1 point

ICE no longer works for reasons that you will never want to admit too. And if you analyze in hindsight...what horses can do...a little manure on the street is preferable than all the shyte that comes out of that tailpipe, regardless of how far and clean gasoline engines have become for 2019...0 points

To build passion into an automobile, internal combustion power is an absolute must. There needs to be fire in the soul for any type of real emotional connection to the car. This is what I believe.-1 points
