Wife made a turkey, stuffing, gravy, spaghetti squash. Low key, mid-day. FaceTimed with my sister & her daughters. Worked in shop cleaning /organizing about 6 hours. Took a 1.5-mile ride to drop a project off at my buddy's house. He's gone no where, has some low risk factors but is very paranoid. We stayed at least 8 feet apart, but was nice to talk for a half hour. Rain supposed to start here in the 2AM hour, go at least 12 hours. Just when it was finally nice & dry outside.4 points

Spent Saturday working on getting the garden area ready for planting, planted two fig trees in the yard for the wife, Sunday, hosed off the pollen and drove over to my son's house to help him tap and mud his garage. He has a detailed plan on how he wants to set his new garage up. Then came home to a family dinner of Candied spiral cut ham, Green Bean casserole with crunchy onions on top, Buttery mashed potatoes and fresh dropped biscuits with strawberry compote, fresh cut strawberries and whip cream on top. Kids went home, wife and I crashed to watch "The Blacklist" awesome series on Netflix. We are in season 4.3 points

Been a while since I've had a "toy" car. Decided to buy this 1988 Firebird Formula for my son and I to work on together. He is almost 13 and not at all mechanically inclined. Not so much because he can't be but because I am one of those picky people that would never let him help me because I wanted to make sure it was done right. It's a pretty clean and rust free all original driver but has more than enough flaws (starting with its anemic 305 V8) that I won't feel guilty doing an LS swap on it. I already sourced the engine and trans as well as a far amount of parts for the conversion but with COVID raging here in Michigan I would feel too guilty to order the rest of the parts I need to get the swap going so it is on hold for now. I don't have the time or equipment to do the engine swap so someone will be doing that for me. My son and I will fix up the interior, replace the little work and broken items and install all the suspension components, though. Should be a fun project once it gets going. I don't want to turn it into a race car. Just a fun, reliable street car. It will be a cam only LS1 with a small stall (2500 rpm) 4L60E. The goal will be something like a 375 RWHP car that will dip into the high 11's in the quarter. Perhaps more mods in future years but no plans to go faster than 11.5 as I already went the roll bar route with a different car and don't want to do that again.1 point

One thing is probably going to change when it comes to buildings. My local post office is newer, but not that new - maybe late 80s or early 90s. You have to grip the metal door handles to get in. You can exit by leaning on the doors. In the future, I see more of those entry doors for big public and commercial buildings where a sensor or some other contraption will cause the door to open and close. Also, I see more translucent partitions in cashier-customer situations. And, we will have to get accustomed to bowing to greet people, like the Japanese do.1 point

One of the folks at the scene thought they smelled marijuana. There is an active court case against the person but it is for things like too fast for conditions and improper lane use, not DUI. I'm assuming they were either texting or talking to their passenger and not paying attention.1 point

Another quickie today : My family had a cabin on a lake in NY State for decades, and we had a float out in the water to swim to. My son carved into the sideboard of it years ago. When we sold the place in '13, we broke up the float, but I saved this one board. I cut it down, drove two 4-in screws down to hold the crack/pieces together, and gave it a light sanding. He's going to deepen the carving and wall-hang it. Before / after :1 point

We cooked a good meal for Easter brunch--- some country ham, biscuits, gravy, scalloped potatoes. Tasty...now in a food coma. 60 and breezy outside.1 point

And what is faux luxury about the new G80? Surely more luxury than any Cadillac outside the Escalade...1 point

Worked in the shop today, it needs it's once-every-3-years cleaning. Always of the mind to organize & purge. Made good progress, more tomm. Been a long time since I posted a pic of it (if I ever have), here's one from 2013. The '64 is gone, and the green container box has a hinged door on it instead of just a tarp.1 point

Genesis is cheaper to maintain than a Cadillac, has better product than Cadillac but still people aren’t buying Genesis. This new G80 is a step forward but they need to do more with G80 or price it at like $42k. This thing should be CT5 and Lexus ES money, but Genesis will price it like a BMW and the product will fail. And personally I think Hyundai/Kia are really on top of their game. But no hybrid, no EV, no twin turbo V8? If you want to play with the big boys that is price of admission.1 point

Well...you are not doing badly for yourself. You've picked up a used previously owned newish Lincoln MKC and a used previously owned newish Mercedes G Wagon for little money. You have greatly seized your opportunities, Id say...1 point

Been a while since I gave an update. Unfortunately this is not the greatest update. The wife was visiting a friend and was parked on a residential street and somebody driving a new Ram truck and not paying attention ran into the van. It is about the widest residential street you will ever see as it is a legit 4 lanes wide so you can easily have cars parked on either side and still comfortably have two cars pass each other going opposite ways. Thankfully (or not, I guess, since it wasn't totalled), there was no structural damage. Unfortunately it wasn't fixed before the state shut down so that added a bit of extra time to the repair. Wound up taking almost seven weeks but we have it back and they did a nice job on it. For the most part it looks as good as new. Other than that, we still love this thing. It had close to 28k miles on it when it get hit and between the length of the repair and the fact we aren't really allowed to go anywhere that is pretty much where it has stayed for the past 2 plus months. The GPS failed a couple days before it got hit and they did check that out while it was in being fixed. They ordered a new radio to fix that issue but it still hasn't come in yet.0 points
