  1. Re: dogs---some friends of mine that live in downtown Columbus in a condo recently got an Australian Cattle Dog puppy...they get to about 35 pounds. Interesting looking dog, they apparently don't shed much..often have blue eyes. Speaking of dogs, our pack is doing fine..Henry (golden Yorkie) recently turned 14, Ginny (tiny Yorkie) is 12, and the younger ones are fine (Raine--Australian Terrier mix, and Beardsley--something mix).. also took a couple pics today of a squirrel on my patio wall...

  4. Well, last time I was with my wife's previous car at the dealer changing oil (still was under warranty) they said the car needs rear brake pads and quoted me $300 for the replacement. I said no thank you, bought pads on rockauto for $40 and it took me 40 minutes to install them. So that's that ...

  6. Saw a Buick like that yesterday, white also. A local independent repair shop has 3 older Buicks parked along the side of their lot--a late 80s-early 90s LeSabre 4dr (the really square ones), an early 00s Century, and a white PA like that. I wonder if the shop owner has a Buick fetish or a lot of older customers that have older Buicks.

  7. MDX Sport Hybrid. More powerful than regular MDX with better transmission, it is definitely more quieter and gets at least 4-5 more mpg on average. It is only $1.5k more than comparable regular MDX (well we bought dealer's car that was at the end of the year cycle and they used it in the dealership, had 2k miles but was significantly cheaper. Officially we are the first owners) I really don't understand why Acura doesn't make more of them but they are pretty hard to find.

  10. Same thing when Earnhardt Auto Group bought Legends Cadillac in N Scottsdale and remodeled it. It wasn't a bad dealership just dated, 80's dated. I always liked the nostalgic feeling when you walked into the showroom at Legends though, call me old school ha. It's something Lexus and Infiniti dealerships couldn't replicate because they weren't even around yet. Here's some GM/Cadillac AZ history: One of the oldest car dealerships in Arizona was Lund Cadillac off of E Bell Rd. near 13th St. built by Bob Lund with help from GM Corp. which was rare, but it was because Bob was a top selling big wig at GM and ended up as the General Manager of Cadillac and Chevrolet in the 70's. He retired from GM as an Executive VP in 1985. Bob also owned Legends Cadillac in N Scottsdale and Kachina Cadillac down in Chandler that was also sold to Earnhardt Auto Group in 2015. Lund Cadillac is where I bought my '13 CTS-V Coupe a couple of years before they closed it down. It was an old school but upscale concrete building all white with big pillars on the front and a water feature with fountains in the middle of the drive. Larry Van Tuyl bought the Lund Cadillac dealership, but not the property, from John Lund (Bob's son who took it over) in 2015 and John sold the property to Fry's Food Stores/Kroger for $6MM which was a steal because it was a huge 5 acre lot off of a main thoroughfare. Van Tuyl moved the dealership out to Glendale to get coverage out there for Cadillac where they built a brand new dealership and renamed it Arrowhead Cadillac, which is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway Automotive along with Van Chevy and all the Van Tuyl dealerships in the nation. The Lund dealership was demolished in 2016 and a huge Fry's Marketplace went in along with a Fry's gas station and many other retail shops and restaurants. Kind of sad that all the automotive history went with it, the area doesn't look the same at all. End of an Era... https://www.autonews.com/article/19991018/ANA/910180724/super-seller-two-decades-after-his-3-7-million-heyday-at-chevy-bob-lund-is-still-moving-iron

  12. Subsequent generations of Escalades have definitely done a better job in differentiating themselves from their Chevy and GMC siblings than the first couple generations did. The very first Escalade was literally identical to the Denali other than grille and badging. Lexus has generally done a good job differentiating themselves from US market Toyotas...though the LX has always been pretty similar to the Land Cruiser besides the front end.

  17. It is the Holidays and I get that, but pretty much double is ridiculous. Not the first time SWA has been more expensive even to So. Cal. for work trips they are often more. There were more direct nonstops available to the PNWet with their competition which was also unusual. Thinking they have already ground much of the fleet. I was talking to a pilot for American who was seated near by on a flight a few months ago and he said they were only running half of their fleet of over 1,000 planes. Whoa! That was eye opening.

  18. Not surprised with the way 2020 has been, but SWA pricing is way out of wack. I ran flights on them and on Kayak.com with American and Alaska Air from Phoenix to Portland nonstop same dates and SW was 1,000 bucks where Alaska and American were $500-$600 also nonstop. I was blown away. I don't really ever fly SW but I thought I would just price check for the he'll of it. Crazy times...

  19. Agree with doing both. Isn't it hot? I love it....it just has the look. No wonder harley isn't selling anything. They backed themselves into a corner where they could not evolve, and became trapped in their ways.

  20. I read about this over the weekend. Cadillac dealer buddy of mine here in AZ said there is a TON of push back from all 880 current dealers who are not happy. It really is ridiculous. No reason they can't offer both EV and ICE pushing for all EV by 2030 is overly ambitious of GM top brass. They just know there is more margin made per unit with less assembly and maintenance to deal with, but not everyone is onboard with it. I think it will alienate many diehard Cadillac fans, the V cars are so impressive, they can easily equal or take down the German rivals in performance and build quality.

  21. I know a really good independent shop here that my sister used for her Cadillac..been in business 50 years, on their 3rd generation in a family. Just like the independent shop I frequented in my Phoenix neighborhood. Both are generalist shops, and there is also a great Euro shop there that she took her old Mercedes to. I do wonder if in the future we will see independent EV repair shops to repair future EVs? Or will they just be disposable appliances that the automakers recycle after the leases are up?

  24. Seeing this does make me wonder if they are not trying to force out senior high paid pilots to reduce costs that will end up in some form of Bonus to the CEO. Of the $220 million saved if they agree to the 10% cut in salary, the CEO did take a 10% cut in salary this year, but was paid with bonus over $8.7 million in 2019 and with the Pandemic this year agreed with the board to a pay of 5.85 million in 2020 according to Dallasnews.com story. Southwest had one of the biggest profits of all airline carriers last year in 2019 at $22.4 Billion in Revenue with $2.3 Billion profit according to the news story I found on my phone as I type. Why does the Board and CEO follow other companies and forgo their salary to keep everyone employed. This is what I Love about Dell Tech as the Board and Executive mgmt. forego their 2020 salary to keep everyone employed even the facilities workers / Janitors who just keep cleaning the empty buildings over and over. Everyone job was protected by this act of giving up their wages to ensure we stay employed. I wish more businesses who have wealthy executive mgmt. teams would look to the short term loss of ones wages when they have far more money than us rank and file and ensure keeping everyone employed. I do think the Airlines will have to eventually reduce headcount to break even, but during this pandemic, asking for the lowest paid people to take massive cost cuts while executives still bring in bank is just crazy. Want Loyalty, want hard workers, then Hey Southwest CEO, Give up your salary to along with the Board to keep everyone employed during this pandemic and down turn in travel. Focus them on cleaning and improving processes and the areas you use to conduct business. Bet the rank and File would have great cost saving ideas on how to process freight and people better due to actually having to work it every day compared to some analyst sitting in an office at the HQ building.

But it has the stupid L on the front end so badge snobs buy it, but it really is a UGLY SPUD as you say. Cramped, not comfy and NOT LUXURY! Totally agree with you here.

  46. Poor metallurgy, not merely salt. datsuns, nissans, toyoters, honda of the '70s all died furiously quick deaths. Then you'd have a vehicle like a Dodge Dart lasting commonly into the '00s as a daily driver. BTW, the environment here is peachy. And not all East Coast states use/used salt.
