  1. I honestly wonder why did they make a W12 rather than a V12. A V12 is the smoothest engine ever made and yet VW went for the W12, as if they wanted to join two VR6 engines together and see how it worked out. As for the death of the ICE, unless there are enough rare earth metals to make batteries large enough to replace ALL THE CARS on planet Earth, I think that the ICE has a few decades left. The V12/V10/W12 will probably disappear by the end of this decade. There should still be a few V8 and V6 engines until 2040 at least, and probably a 4-cylinder and 3-cylinder well past midcentury. As for 2100, by then the ICE will be as important to them as the horse buggy is for us.
  2. I think Ford is having some issues selling the MKZ as well as the Continental. Too bad neither car distinguishes themselves from the competition in any significant way. Why would anyone switch to a Lincoln from a German car or a Cadillac?
  3. No offense taken. I just simply surmised that when GM decided to spare Buick and kill Olds in 2004, China was the main reason for that decision back then. Nothing more.
  4. No thank you. Especially to the whole mobility as a service idea, regardless of whether GM or anyone else is pushing this rather awful idea that only a Millennial could love.
  5. I guess this is not a surprise. If Buick in China does not spell out BUICK on the cars and crossovers, I guess that would be brought here too. Without China, Buick would be as dead as Oldsmobile (RIP). I would like to pick up an Envision sometime in the next year or so. That CUV may keep me from buying an XT5 in a couple of years.
  6. Poor sales because of few deals on leases. Given the mad march towards CUVs over sedans, you would think that Honda would make the Accord cheap to lease. Also, the competition is no longer the sad slouches they were 15-20 years ago. The Chrysler 200 is finally dead. The Malibu does NOT SUCK and neither does the Fusion. Hyundai/KIA are adding pressure. And there has always been the Toyota Camry since 1983. Somewhere along the line, Honda forgot to compete against increasingly tougher competition. They had better figure this out sooner than later. Otherwise, there will be even more Accords staying in Marysville OH and not at the local dealership.
  7. Then you should look at a Buick Envision, since that CUV is a better value at the price you listed.
  8. #1 reason to move the auto show to October: brutal Detroit winters. What are they waiting for?
  9. Wow. At those prices for a (loaded) Terrain, why not buy a Buick Envision instead? Nicer CUV and possibly a better value.
  10. Tainted? What is this, 1980? 1990? Lack of discounts might work as a theory perhaps, but GM needs profits and cash flow NOT "move the metal" which led to BK a decade ago. The love for the German automakers is still quite irrational, even after 40 years of all their hype.
  11. Makes me almost consider the new Envision over the Cadillac XT5. . . . . . . . almost. Are they upgrading the interior on the new Envision, or is it just the powertrain?
  12. I was referring to both the new CUE and the physical buttons since so many people have complained about how to use CUE with just virtual buttons. The physical dash may or may not be updated at all in the XT5.
  13. They might have to bring that dash into the XT5; only problem is that change might come with an MCE in 2020 or so.
  14. I Hope that the diesel engine passes emissions standards without cheating.
  15. Porsche does not sell that many CARS worldwide, so a disproportionate percentage to diesel cars is not that surprising.
  16. Good, but they need to bring something different to the luxury flagship game. Ditto the Genesis G90.
  17. Well, this is the USA. Oldsmobile invented the automatic in 1940. Ever since WWII, manual transmissions have been on a death spiral just about everywhere. Besides, who takes a Camaro racing?
  18. It's all about that NOx issue. Maybe it is time to go EV instead. Either way, this will cost a LOT of $$$$ for the Germans especially.
  19. BTW: who would buy an Alfa Romeo at $80K and higher? I would pick up a fully loaded XT5 and pocket the difference or at least get a CT6 and end up with a better luxury car.
  20. Environmentalists should be suing governments for pushing diesel over all alternatives. VW is NOT innocent, but the EU also needs to be held accountable.
  21. The Bolt is a good small car. My question is this: where are the EV Equinox and EV Trax? Better still, where are the EV Cadillac XT5 and XT4? GM needs to build those too, because Tesla either cannot or will not build them.
  22. FIAT itself is the money pit; Alfa Romeo is just a poor decision. Then again, Sergio has clearly demonstrated that he basically hates Chrysler and Dodge, so if he siphons $$$$ for Alfa Romeo and FIAT great for him. Bad for all others. Will Chryco survive until 2021? Place your over/under bets.
  23. Small problem: execution and product availability are everything in this business. Elon Musk and his crew have clearly underachieved on this one. Seems like no one can actually get their hands on a Tesla model 3. Pitiful.
  24. So where did the other six million in sales go? Hyundai/Kia? Toyota or Honda? As for the sales figures in this post, Cadillac needs a Enclave-sized CUV to go along with the Escalade STAT.
  25. Is there a place for a station wagon in the era of the crossover? Given sales figures, I doubt it but Volvo persists.
