Toyota took the easy way and quickly built an EV Van. Inner City Service companies should love this as well as gov agencies and families that need seats but not allot of miles. Cool, GM would be wise to build SURUS as an EV platform and get some vans in production.

WOW, Multiple stories that have Tesla having hand built a ton of parts to allow them to get the Tesla 3 into productions and now that major problems have shown up, Tesla is redirecting money to get the parts auto assembly built so they take the human error factor out. Parts that will be replaced in ALL TESLA 3 models are as follows: Headlights Tail lights Front and Rear seats Battery Packs The rest of the parts are smaller components according to company insiders as Tesla focuses on only delivering these prototype cars to the employees who will have to deal with numerous changes as production parts come online. Seems the Gigawatt production line is also way behind in producing enough battery packs for the Tesla 3 as they also struggle to keep up with demand for the model X & S. electrek story Guess my statement about talking to a major OEM about ramping up production might just have been true is Musk could get over his ego. This could also totally explain the non-working FM and internet streaming from the car, needing to WiFi your smartphone to the car to get any music to play. Interesting

Musk Tweeted last night a delay in the Semi-truck of a few weeks to divert money to fixing the Tesla 3 mess since less than 260 cars have been produced and they were supposed to be up to 1500 a week by now. Guess Musk should have talked to GM about EV Production.

They also have more than enough capacity at their US plant to ramp up. I truly believe that between Mexico and the US, they can ramp up and offset the production. Let Canada Union starve on their strike BS. This also lets GM get out of having to pay back any tax breaks they were given to keep manufacturing there as the Union is who decided to strike hurting manufacturing in Canada, not GM.

Agree that I would not waste money on the tech either, but it is understandable as GM and Honda have teamed up to spend 85 million on the tech in support of the EPA and US Military that is funding the research. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/gm-honda-hydrogen-fuel-cell-manufacturing-push/ I would say that the bulk of GM's announcement is really focused on EV and they will keep a few hundred peeps working by spending the tax dollars from the two gov agencies to show what can be done. This DOES NOT mean it is economically feasible.

Remember, GM had many drag racing groups using the Quad 4 in a dual Turbo setup getting 1200hp. But I agree, I think the 3 was to be a 2 which makes way more sense. Not true, the Pentastar has become very reliable and in the V6 with 8 spd tranny config, seems to be doing very well across all models that the powertrain is installed in.

Cool tech, yet with that said, Hydrogen is an Energy looser as it takes more energy to produce hydrogen fuel than other solutions. I can see a CNG generator to produce kWh of juice for a pure EV platform. To me that would be more realistic I think. Be interesting to see what they want to really use this for besides the stated uses above. I will say that the Medical Unit and the Container hauler in a shipping yard are very cool autonomous uses of this tech.

This auto has been a very cool ride for a long time. This car also has auto open and close doors so the rear passengers do not have to touch a thing other than enter and sit down, buckle up. Very cool luxury auto that I think Toyota should have in their Lexus Stable for the US market. I would take this over the German S class. A very Stately looking ride!

I have stated it before and will state it again, we are living in interesting times. The EV Auto's are at the stage of ICE auto's at the start of the 1900's. As such the auto show circuit will be very interesting to see and watch over the next 3-5 years.

I thought the Rat Shack was a dead company? They are gone from Washington state, had a huge going out of business sale a year ago and Rat Shack exists no more. Did not find them in Oregon or California either. Do they still exist?

Talk about an overworked expected to have a short life 4 banger. V6 would be the better motor for long ownership. Course with the amount of lease deals FCA is doing on Jeep, I bet more and more will go with the T4 cause after 36K miles who cares who has to deal with an overworked motor. I hope they look at doing a Hybrid. Diesel or gas motor with electric assist would be kick ass. Land Rover is doing it, no reason for the US brands not too.

Interesting that on their web page they say the Tesla 3 has FM radio and internet streaming. https://www.tesla.com/model3 Yet the forums currently as stated here FM radio is not active yet and neither it would seem is the internet streaming options. Since there is also no BlueTooth connectivity, you have the built in WiFi and LTE connections as the only way to use your own device. Even though the auto has multiple USB ports, I do not find in the spec info that the speaker system can use it to play songs off a USB thumb drive. The more I read on the Tesla 3 and how little it has to offer for the cost, the more the BOLT is a superior EV. It would appear that using your WiFi connected Smartphone is the option to listen to music in this minimalist overpriced EV.

Total Asian Love from MT just like Consumer Rejection. My son's Jeep Patriot Trail rated edition with the CVT did pretty good off road and even then they ended up dumping the CVT in the final years of production for a traditional transmission. Makes one really wonder about the engineering of the CVT which is a integral part of the awd / 4x4 system.

The stations that have them here also have mini grocery stores / food courts with free WiFi, people stop, plug in and get a bit to eat, use the bathroom and get online to do who knows what, then out after they have charged for a while and off they go down the road. Cost seems to be running between 20 to 35 cents per kWh compared to home charging at 6 cents per kWh. Over all still much cheaper than petrol prices.

Exxon Mobil, BP, Royal Dutch, Shell have all invested in Charging companies that make the equipment. On top of this, All have announced they are starting to install fast chargers at gas stations. Shell is farther along than most but here is their fast charger station. As I have said over and over, the West coast if much farther along than the rest of North America, yet just like the early 1900's where cars were being sold before gas stations were everywhere and before big profits could be made, Companies have to start somewhere.

Hello Bloomberg, this is the chicken or egg issue of chargers and auto choices. With Choices sales and profits will come. Trust me it will!
