  1. I am NOT doing a Mercedes C63 S Coupe. I dont like it. A Vette also fits the price range, but Im typically not a Vette guy either. I dont want to keep this M4 competition edition and Im getting desperate to find a car...but then it hits me.... A car from BMW itself that I could go for....as much as it pains me to use ANY BMW in this type of thread...this BMW has grown on me quite a bit... 650i coupe please.
  2. Sorry @ccap41 But if Clark Griswold ends up with a minivan in the end ,and he is the ULTIMATE family guy...and he could get Christie Brinkley naked with that god awful Metallic Pea Family truckster Then I could DEFINITELY drive across the USA in a Chrsyler minivan holding my head up high!
  3. Okay, Im doing 2 scenarios for this. You know, for entertainment purposes. In both scenarios, the used car will be the same. Because I own one....its comfy, fast, agile and it works well for both scenarios. Its big for a family and it hauls ass if I it needs to be and its luxurious enough to spend 2-3 weeks on the road and its reliable. Ive used this google thingy to find how much a used 2012-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD might go for in the USA and I found out that its a match...so.... 2012-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD Now...this is where the fun begins: If Im doing the family thing going cross country to Walley World and back... then a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is my choice. Not quite the Family Truckster Antartic Blue Super Sports Wagon versus the Metallic Pea station wagon...but a minivan is probably the best bet for stuff like this when real fullsized BOF American land yachts arent available. But.... If Im doing a Gumball Rally/Cannonball Run/Bull Run thing... Then Im choosing a black Charger Scatpack in a cop car disguise much like the cop car in the movie The Gumball Rally
  4. Cool thread idea! Id do a combo of both. What????!!! What do you mean by that???!!! Well...Id go to Year One and order one of these three body shells from Dynaorn...brand spanking new engineered to spec to the originals but even better built than the originals: Obviously Id do Oldsmobile 442 or Hurst/Olds above all else but a 1969 Trans Am or 1970 Dodge Challenger would do. Floor pans, fenders even modern LED tail lights and headlights could be ordered from Year One. The only downside to an Oldsmobile clone may be that I still may need a Cutlass donor car to complete the rest of the skin as the skeleton body shell really is meant for a Chevelle and the fenders and such from Dynacorn and Year One are for Chevelles. Modern brakes and suspensions and crate engines could be ordered from just about anywhere...complete with the proper ECUs, sensors, computers and wiring harnesses. Modern reinforced frames from Art Morrison or Schwartz Performance to house modern multi-link suspensions would be the route Id take. So I could create a clone 1969 Trans Am with a modern LT1 engine, or a clone 442 with a LS7 or a clone 1970 Challenger with the 6.2 supercharged modern Hemi creating a 1970 Hellcat...
  5. Viva los Cowboys! With that being said, I really really like the Packers' throwback uniform...
  6. @Frisky Dingo @ccap41 @A Horse With No Name Thanx guys! I have made 2 lists that way and Im sticking with them!
  7. Both Cadillacs CT6 and CTS will probably be a choice for me here. But..Id like to add a car that could very well be overlooked here. The Lincoln Continental I dont care how one views this car. I myself has been very harsh on it. But in this price range, it could be the one to own...(if one is looking for a nice, plush and quiet ride)
  8. Came to visit after a long hiatus and I see this thread. cool. OK...I see that the rules could be interpreted slightly differently than what Mr. Frisky intends. And I sometimes circumvent these rules, but Ill try not to. Ive got back up cars just in case. 1. 1969 Hurst/Olds and if it dont fit the rules....Ill go with another A-Body from the same year but from Chevy. 1969 Yenko Chevelle. But I cant see how the Oldsmobile should be denied. Its a car that Oldsmobile and Hurst collaborated together to take a standard Cutlass, that was already transformed into a 442, eliminate the 400 cubic inch engine and shoehorn a 455 HO. And Hurst would just build upon the W-30 package... as per regulations, the Hurst/Olds is a legit entry. 2. 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 Collector's Edition or a 1999 30th Anniversary Edition. Same Thing. I prefer the yellow but Ill do the white and blue stripes if I have too. 3. 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Like the Oldsmobile, this car is based on a "lesser" model in the Vanquish and is limited to 99 cars. If this one gets bounced, which it should not, Ill do the 2016 Corvette C7R edition. (Which is basically the same principle as the Zagato...) 4. 1966 or 2016 Hertz Ford Mustang Preferably the 1966 GT350H but the 2016 GT-H edition aint too shabby either... And finally, the last choice is kinda like the 1969 Olds and the 2017 AM in that this next choice is based on a lower trimmed car, the Regal in which was already muscle-fied into a Grand National and for a last big bang hurrah edition, the GNX was born in 1987. Only 547 were built. 5. 1987 Buick GNX If this gets denied, then its an easy choice. Ive swapped one for the other in other DCG threads. Same engine but improved on an F-Bodied Pontiac. The 1989 25th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am which also happens to be an Indy 500 pace car edition. 2 for the price of 1.
  9. You know I love these Frisky. I do this one with a side order of songs accompanying my choices 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Speedster. Because sometimes, I like to be Puttin' on the Ritz and what better way to do that than to try hard to be like Gary Cooper. Yeah, my choice is his very own Duesy. Or Clark Gable's....that would be the red accented one. 1968 or 1969 Corvette L88 or ZL-1 Why Def Leppard Hysteria? Beause Corvettes are in the video and Rick Allen the drummer got his arm amputated because he crashed his 1984 Vette back in England. 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda 426 convertible You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick Oooo, Barracuda, oh yeah Slick Black Cadillac...but preferably in blue...1957-1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham I could have gone with Pink Cadillac by Springsteen or Aretha but I feel like Quiet Riot is more to my groove right about now. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder ooooooh yeah...
  10. LET ME SCREAM: Ive been saying THAT for the longest time: "Having the ability to drive an emission free, non-gas using vehicle that doesn't require the type of maintenance a combustible engine requires has to be the end all be all. In terms of range... in just 6 years we have gone from 83 all EV miles to 240 in the mainstream... for under $35K. $h! is only gonna continue to improve.. and I'm betting on 400 Miles by 2020, or just 3 years away. At that point... range anxiety is dead.. or at least put on serious hold. Once they have a real EV Charging infrastructure available then we are looking at a true migration over to the tech. The problem exists as long as 168,000 gas stations are available vs 9,758 electric charging stations." As far as waiting in line for charge times and not enough of charge stations exists and reports of Tesla owners or even Leaf and Volt owners abusing the system leaving their cars to charge all day long...we act as though gasoline powered cars never had this problem....even with 168 000 gas stations across the land... I promise you folk, this is REALLY the last time I post at Cheers and Gears...(I read to get info) but Ill stop giving my opinion as it means nothing to some of you...times a-wasted on my end...
  11. Thanx Frisky. Yours is awesome too. I may be a muscle car guy through and through, an AMERICAN car guy enthusiast at heart, but along the way, I have learned to appreciate the many wonders that exist throughout the world. Like the 1986 930 Turbo. It was actually my first time that I fell for the 911. Later I found out that the 1986 930 Turbo is special. My first time in contact with a 911 was in the movie The Bachelor Party in 1984-1985 when it came out on Beta. I did not know how to feel about it but a year or so later fell in love with the 930 Turbo. The Targa from 1987 just looks cool with that whale tail. But those too, (from 1987-1989) have become special models. From 1989 and on I started doing my homework on the 911 starting with the 959 and when I saw the speedster. And that is when I fell in love with the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7. Then the 993 came to be and how could anybody not respect the 1993 GT2 and the Twin Turbo of 1997? I may not like the early 911s before they were called that in 1963 or so, and that is why I may not be a bonafide Porschefile, but I do know enough about them to be...an enthusiast without being a total fan geek about them. But I do respect the dickens outta them.
  12. 1933 Ford Roadster Hot Rod. Ford 5.0 Coyote V8 crate engine and chassis by Factory Five Racing. Or maybe GM LS/LT crate engine... 1957 Chevy Convertible or Hot Rod 1958 Plymouth Fury 1967 Pontiac GTO 1969 Olds/Hurst or 1970 Olds 442 1969 Plymouth Road Runner or GTX 1973 Pontiac Trans Am 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat 2016/2017 Tesla Model S P100D 2018 Cadillac CT6 4.2 liter TTV8
  13. 2017 Ford Fusion Sport...even though I read your review on it and it might not be what I was looking for... for it... It is still a compelling package non-the-less. A Platinum 2.0 Ecoboost will do as well. Frisky....you took the 2005 Altima SE-R before I could...its OK. Ill do a Nissan Maxima instead. 1995 Nissan Maxima SE 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Series or 1996-7 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Both with the 3.4 liter V6 DOHC. Guys...maybe the Chevy SS is off limits, but not the Pontiac G8 GXP... Chevy Malibu 2.0T Premier I did not want to do Buick Regal since Buick is kinda premium lux. Yeah, I know....I did Oldsmobile when Oldsmobile was kinda premium lux....well....Oldsmobile is no longer so....Wait a second, I got something in my eye.
  14. Yellow Yellow Ferrari for me. And If I understood the question correctly...the choices are only these 2. The F-40 and the 488. Id take a 488GTB. In yellow.
  15. OK Frisky.... I came back just to do this list. For you. For Sled over at MT. (I think I saw two other dream garage threads. Ill do those next) I am not a Porschephile by any means. Sometimes I see them as ugly, bug eyed, frog styled Nazi Volkswagen Kafers (Beetles to you folk). But most of the time, I see them as the awesome machines as they are! I often get lost in its beauty and I sit there staring at it mesmerized by the sheer engineering marvel that it is. I dont know if I could fill all 9 spots, but Ill sure try. These 911s are the ones that I adore the most. And yes, I respect the dickens outta this sports car as its an icon like no other. These 911s are my favorites. A 911, or a Vette, are not cars that suit my tastes, but I wouldnt mind having several of them in a Jay Leno style garage that I may own...one day...maybe. (Keep dreaming that dream....) 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 1986 930 Turbo 1987 Carrera Targa or 3.3 Turbo Targa. 1989 Speedster 1993 993 Carrera GT2 1997 993 Twin Turbo 2015 Targa 4S I like cars with stripes... 2016 911R And I dont know if this one qualifies as a 911.but the 959 shall be in my garage no matter what is you say Frisky... HEY....what do you know? I actually found 9. Does that make me a bonafide Porshefile?
  16. Hellcat or Scat-pack. NO CONTEST. MOPAR OR NO CAR. GO MANGO OR SUBLIME
  17. DUDE...the war started in 1939...I know some of you American folk think that WW2 started in 1941... Harley Early and Bill Mitchel were not farm boys in Indiana not knowing what is what... Dude...I READ MANY books on THIS PARTICUALR SUBJECT WAAAAAY BACK IN THE 1980s...I was 10 years old...and the material that I came across state dual vertical stabilizers...ALL OF THEM, NO PARTICULAR aircraft in question...now...I don't remember if those were the EXACT words of Harley and Bill...but REVISIONIST HISTORY is ALWAYS A MUST when it comes down to FACTS!!! And ROMANCE is what is happening here! And THAT is why I KEEP on MENTIONING DUAL VERTICAL STABILIZERS!!! DUAL VERTICAL STABILIZERS... I DID NOT GET THIS ON MY OWN....I GOT IT FROM SOMEWHERE!!! Yes it is PRETTY SILLY... ESPECIALLY WHEN I GOT THE RIGHT ANSWER 2 POSTS IN!!! MY FIRST POST WAS ALSO ACCURATE... Argue all you want with me...my answer is the correct one! Let me repeat...DUAL VERTICAL STABILIZERS WERE the INSPIRATION for fins...and yes the P-38 had those...so did many other planes...that were older...that Harley and Bill actually saw BEFORE the P-38...it jst makes for a more romantic story to say it was from the forkerd devil of an airplane...that supposedly the Germans called it...but in reality, the P-38 was not all that effective for it to be called the forked devil... I heard of a joke that WW2 vets used to say...that it was called the forked devil because it killed its own pilot...kinda like how the F-104 was dubbed the widow maker...ironically by the German airforce as well...
  18. Well...DUH! Of course is a BOLD FACED LIE!!! If Harley Earl and Bill Mitchel was not HONEST about the whole thing...YEAH! ITS A LIE!!! That is a SWATIKA on one of those stabilizers... Im sure both of them did not want to associate Cadillac with the Nazi war machine after the war ended. Before the war...Hitler was alright...Time Life Man of the Year...TWICE! This is a Dornier DO 15...over Athens, Greece....BEFORE the US entered the war... Im sure Harley Earl and Bill Mitchel saw similar photos... That is the thing...All these Nazi aircraft were OLDER airplanes than the P-38... One could say that the inspiration was a P-38...even if its straight from the horses mouth...reality tells a different story though...
  19. P-38 being successful or not is irrelevant...true... But...since I posted 5-6-7 other WW2 era aircraft with dual vertical stabilizers and there are many many others older than the P-38, and since at least one MORE iconic airplane toughed it out in combat during the 1950s and since other related articles that I have read back in the EARLY 1980s while I was just 10 years old reading this information crediting ALL dual vertical stabilizers and not just singling out the P-38, because back then...when the war was over and it was only 40 years passed and not 70 years passed as it is in 2016...when the romance of the P-38 is idolized more over the romance of the B-25...because the romance of the B-25 and B-17 was greater than that of the P-38 in the 1980s...then yeah...it is disingenuous to credit the P-38 solely... Like I said...even if Harley Earl and Bill Mitchel credited the P-38 in the memoirs...what are they to do? Say that a Nazi machine was an inspiration to the Cadillac...in 1948? When the war against the Nazis ended just 3 years prior? The P-38 went into service in 1941... The Messerschmitt BF110 saw action from day one...in 1939... Surely American newspapers had a photogragh or two of the BF110 when WW2 actually started....in 1939...even though the US entered the war in 1941... And...I MENTIONED fins....wrong airplane? BULLSHYTE! other WW2 era aircraft with dual vertical stabilizers and there are many many others older than the P-38, and since at least one MORE iconic airplane toughed it out in combat during the 1950s and since other related articles that I have read back in the EARLY 1980s while I was just 10 years old reading this information crediting ALL dual vertical stabilizers and not just singling out the P-38, because back then...when the war was over and it was only 40 years passed and not 70 years passed as it is in 2016...when the romance of the P-38 is idolized more over the romance of the B-25...because the romance of the B-25 and B-17 was greater than that of the P-38 in the 1980s...then yeah...it is disingenuous to credit the P-38 solely... I wouldn't care as much, but to sit here have someone say to me that I am wrong is just plain....stupid! Ive had this discussion in 1983-1984 with my buddies. Two/three/four 10-12 year old nerds talking about WW2 history, airplanes and cars...in 1983/1984...this is old news for me... And as you could see, I nailed it from the get go... From the F117/Lamborghini connection because the way the thread was worded, it implied MODERN airplane design languages...and even then, I included 2 aircraft as the SR-71 was the first one...we could say that it was the F117...SEMANTICS is NOT a good way to argue! Then the OP said it was false... So I went directly to the fins of the 50s...with a B-25 and B-24...then I SHOWED you folk how many dual vertical stabilizer aircraft really existed during the 1930s and 1940s...with REAL examples of NOT SO SUBTLE DUAL vertical stabilizers in car wings... Then the OP said NO to that too... And you know what? BUBBLE TOP roofs were ALSO a styling theme of the 1950s America wide! And I alos showed MODERN cars with bubble type AIRCRAFT AERODYNAMIC roofs... Then the op SAID no TO THAT TOO...THEN I WENT AIRPLANE EXHAUST ON YOU FOLK...to which the OP said yeah...that may work also...but no he says... So yeah...I guess trivia threads are kinda useless when one gets the answer right, but ignores it...and then another argues facts even when presented with PICS and tries to sound intelligent, all in the while...the answer was given from the get go! No...not the P38...sorry if I burst your bubble in telling ya'll the P-38 is just marketing fluff...ESPECIALLY coming from the designers themselves when it be embarrassing to them to sell us cars that had Nazi elements to them...as the BF110 was an OLDER airplane!!!
  20. No he is not 100% correct. Balthy's POV is dead on! Cadillac does not use subtle fins anymore. Cadillac uses blade taillights that reflect the past, but fins they are not. Nor do they protrude like fins. With me, the article states that the P-38 went out of service in 1948...but you know what? The North American P-51 Mustang AND the North American B-25 Mitchel saw service in Korea. Yeah...that war was between the years 1950-1953... The B-25 had dual vertical stabilizers...and THAT bomber was probably MORE iconic than the P-38 was...but like I mentioned...saying the P-38 was the inspiration is more romantic because it looked different than the others. However, the P-38, for those in the know, was a very difficult plane to fly. It was unstable. And for those in the know, it was not even the first dual vertical stabilizer airplane... So...what is Harley Earl and Bill Mitchel gonna say? That their inspiration comes from a Nazi airplane? I believe that the Messerschmitt BF 110 is an OLDER design than the P-38. I could mbe wrong though, I don't feel like googling.. What are they gonna say? That the inspiration came from goofy looking bombers? Although the B-25 is a beautiful aircraft, it does not appear to be as sleek as the P-38... But that is the thing, there are other dual vertical stabilizer aircraft to put solely the spotlight on the P-38 is disingenuous. People in the know...know better! Plus I read other articles that don't give the P-38 credit for the fin crazy 50s...Dual vertical stabilizers in general are credited. PLUS PLUS...the jet age was upon us anyway...jet airplanes were also an inspiration for the ENTIRE American industry MORE than the fins as Ford did not really give in to this styling, but went all out on the jet engine motif and it does continue today....and I gave many examples of that. My very first post...along with airscoops, the F-16 as well as the P-51 Mustang... The article states that newer fighters made it obsolete... The Supermarine Spitfire was an OLDER design and it was a better aircraft...that it why the P-38 never saw action over Europe. The P-51 plane was a newer design but only became a dominant fighter when the UK proposed to put the Rolls Royce engine in it... The Messerscmitt BF 109 was also an older airplane than the P-38, but that too was a better aircraft. The Focke Wolfe FW 190 was a newer airplane, almost as good as the P51D version of the Mustang, with the Merlin engine, and that too was a better airplane than the P-38... No wonder the P-38 never saw action in Europe. The Pacific war front... The Hellcat and other American fighters took over well before the war ended...funny though, in Europe, the BF 109 continued to march on, and that airplane too was woefully obsolete by 1943-1944....but it was a more stable flyer than the P-38 was... Trust me, during the war, the real people fighting the war, did not like the P38 much...
  21. I also have a problem with this too...as I mentioned fins...like my second post. NO, I did not mention the P-38, I mentioned the B-25 and B-24. Bill Mitchel and Harley Earl could mention P-38 all they want for their inspiration....But there are several aircraft during WW2 to have dual vertical stabilizers.....to boot, I even posted the same year Cadillac as the article. 'Xcept my pic was a coupe rather than a sedan. From the USA B-24 B-25 P-38 From the UK Lancaster From Germany Dornier Do 17, 215 and 217 Messerschmidt BF110 From The USSR Petlyakov Pe-2 Its semantics to have said no to me... As the story goes....only because the P-38 looks to be the more romantic story line because it looks prettier than the others with dual vertical stabilizers... I personally prefer the North American B-25 Mitchel and the Messerschmidt Bf-110 in looks over the others. The Russian Pe-2 aint too shabby lookin' either. Yup. I more airplane crazy than I am car crazy. PS: There are others too. I just dont feel like posting all of them..
  22. I aint enjoying the experience either. Ive gotten used to it, but I dont like it. I too, find the new digs to be too busy. I also find the new digs to be cold and uninviting. I cant put my finger on why that is, but that is how I feel.
