Buick News: Whoops! Buick Canada Reveals Existence of V6 for Regal GS
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
But....I did research on my own too.... What I found out was: Regal will be 192.8" long Malibu is 193.8" long Lacrosse is 197.5" long (car&driver website) or 198" long (Buick.ca website) Impala is 201" long. All have 73" of width but the Lacrosse is said to be 74" Between the Regal and the Lacrosse, we are looking at a 4.7/5.2 inch difference depending what source is correct and visually speaking even if comparing side by side, not at all a big difference... So...my rant through my though processes seems to hold water without trying to semantic the hell out of my point of view... Which is: 1. too many models (3) sharing the same more or less exterior dimensions give or take, sharing the same interior specs more or less give or take and sharing the same bloody corporate V6 in the same more or less give or take price range and more or less give or take market niche... 2. A corporate V6 option is not what I think the Regal and Buick needs to spice up their line-up and image. 3. A corporate V6 option on the Regal is not worthy of the GS name.- 80 replies

Buick News: Whoops! Buick Canada Reveals Existence of V6 for Regal GS
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Not that much smaller Im presuming. The Regal is closer to the Malibu's underpinnings Im assuming which is smaller than the Impala, but not considerably smaller and Im guessing and assuming that the Regal will be a tad bigger than the Malibu itself making the Regal a tad smaller than either the Impala and Lacrosse. And...OK.. the V6 Regal will as quick as an ATS V6 which is great! Why not make the V6 Regal a turbo and make it that much quicker than an ATS V6? GM/Buick wants to use the GS name, why not go full on and make a REAL GS? That Buick Skylark GS above was one of the fastest original muscle car era muscle cars. (A Skylark could be argued that it eventually became a Regal....) So...why does GM still insist on under delivering when they bring on historical name plates? For me at least, they should leave out the GS bullshyte and give a V6 Regal a different trim name... GS, GSX, GN, GNX should either be revived ONLY with WORTHY successors which would REALLY give Buick a boost in image or just plain forget about that past and start with NEW nomenclature! a REGULAR 300 horse regular corporate V6 Regal sounds boring enough, maybe Regal V6 should just as well be its trim name and cut out the BS need to re-kindle any thoughts of excitement.... The Sportsback Χ naming they are doing now seems to be pointing to the future. GREAT! OK....on with the future and forget the past if Buick is to sully the GS name as I think a corporate V6 engine option is not worthy of the GS name... So... I really have 2 issues with this... 1. A corporate V6 option is not what I think the Regal and Buick needs to spice up their line-up and image. 2. A corporate V6 option on the Regal is not worthy of the GS name.- 80 replies

Buick News: Whoops! Buick Canada Reveals Existence of V6 for Regal GS
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
You know what would really make a better GS? You combine the two ideas of the turbo 4 and V6 and make the GS a turbo V6...and charge a premium for it making sure the interior is worthy of the premium price tag giving Buick some needed excitement while at the same time making sure there is some room and distance between the V6 Chevy Impala and the V6 Buick Lacrosse which all have the same V6 engine and not one of the three cars (Regal, Lacrosse, Impala) really making a solid case to buy either of them between them. All three in the same showroom all get lost with each other and not one standing tall against the other to shine or offer something.....DIFFERENT from each other! All three will probably have the same boring 3.6 V6 producing the same 300 or so horsepower output. The Impala will hold the price advantage with it being the least costly option while the Lacrosse over the Regal will be the bigger option while looking very similar. With a turbo version of the V6 in GS Regal form, there is a different element to that trio. And it gives Buick a much needed spicier offering in their model line-up. A turbo V6 GS trim for Buick should also be an option on ALL of their CUVs as well!!!- 80 replies

I never ever thought of that. About the Eagle Talon... I refrained from commenting because I really had no idea what opinion to have about this latest Civic. Now, thanx to your insight, I have my opinion. Yeah...Im not into this car.

I too share this sentiment with all classic cars! This train of thought is how Jay Leno views his restorations. Its OK to modernize certain things like brakes for safety reasons, but the clone route is perfect for the sawzalls and the body tucks and the blacking out of the chrome trim and stuff! -

The Orioles beat the Blue Jays twice so far to open up the season... That Impala with the 18s up front and 20s in the back has a very nice stance to her. Classy and aggressive at the same time. That is a knock-out look you should be striving to achieve as well since you just mentioned that you are willing to open the door to customization more than just taking rims off of one car and putting them on the Impala. Pin striping is also a must with this car! You should do it! Not too crazy like those low riders, but a nice hood pin strip and some that goes along the side of the body complimenting those long sides! -

Ill keep this late 1970s reminiscing theme going on. My dad had a 1979 Impala. A dark red Impala. OK...nowhere near as an awesome a colour as your sweet as phoque Impala...I don't think it was a metallic colour either. It may have been. I just don't remember. And..a 1979 Impala aint exactly a mouth watering visual piece of art as the 1966 is... Just thinking about my care free youth days. I guess Chevy does run deep with me! COOL! -
What Im about to post has nothing to do with nothing...its just that I had a vision...a blast from the past. All these special editions : "Chevrolet has gone a bit crazy with the special editions over the past couple of years with Rally, Redline, and Midnight. Now there is another one in the form of the RST (Rally Sport Truck) for the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban" And with this commercial: Has got me reminiscing about these late 1970s Camaros: Rallye Sport and Z28 with all their late 1970s graphics and colours! Ahhhh...the late 1970s...what a colourful time...and baseball season just began... *SIGH* I WANT MY EXPOS BACK!!! (go Blue Jays go?) NAH! I STILL CANT CHEER THEM ON!!!

Tough call had the Impala been my car. Why? Those rims you got on her now, the Corvette style steelies, those rock! 14 inchers dont bother me! American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels...well, they define muscle cars, so they'd rock even more!!! Especially 17 inchers on this big bad boy. Because I have to admit, bigger rims on this big car with those big wheel wells will look better though! And those that you got on the STS also rock! For me it be between the Corvette style steelies or the Torque Thrust II. And it be a very difficult decision to make! 396...AWESOME!!! -

Leave it to Balthy to notice a thread like this one. I saw this thread as soon as you posted it and I wanted to give you a "Hell Yeah!" But since you wanna ignore me and tell me you regret you told me about this place just because I dont put up with some of your bullshyte, (yet more often than not I do respect you for it) (but I think you are pissed at me 'cause Im fed up of your bosom buddy El Kabong although I respected him too at one time...) I decided to ignore it... Not that you care...I dont either... Nice ride. I hope you enjoy her! With that being said, Ill be seeing you in the ring. Oh yes...dems are fightin' words! -
Buick News: 2018 Buick Regal Sportback and TourX Make Their Debut
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
I don't mind the body cladding. There is not enough of it to actually cheapen it. But then again, I like body cladding...if done right. Pontiac done it right! Some people did not like it, I LOVED IT!!!! This is done right. There is an equal amount of body cladding on Buick's rivals...so I don't see a problem with it. Wagons I don't dislike, its just that I prefer the sedan or coupe version of the car more...and Id consider a wagon but when SUVs and CUVs are concerned, Id take a wagon over an SUV or CUV any day of the week. Twice on Sundays as they say!- 43 replies

Yup! This is a perfect example how a brand can miss the trends and become irrelevant... EVs are slowly but surely growing..and once they reach that tipping point you mention, they will explode in sales... Contrary to what sales data may want to say, or examples of how SUVs sales really started in the 1960s but exploded in the 1990s...because I have something to say about that... The Detroit 3 missed the clues that gas was gonna be expensive, and insurance premiums on muscle cars, and got caught with their pants down in the 1970s and just handed their market share to the Japanese when they had no small cars to sell and produced crappy small cars. The Japanese built crappy cars in this time, the problem was the American small car was crappier. How could big SUVs sell in this time when full sized cars were downsized and were not selling as much as before? It took a decrease in fuel prices in the late 1980s to spark an SUV craze in the 1990s... EVs... It seems forever that our politicians ARE WARNING US OF HIGH GASOLINE PRICES... It seems like forever that TREE HUGGERS ARE MORE MORE CONTROLLING AND REGULATING HOW WE LIVE... It seems like forever that EVERY STEP IS TAKEN TOWARDS EVs... And I dont know where other people live, but in Montreal, even though EVs are not exactly taking us by storm here either, WE COULD SENSE, FEEL, HEAR, SEE, SMELL, the tides turning towards EVs... Cadillac had a sexy EV. Too expensive, but it was there...and it was available before many others...where is it now? M-B, Porsche, Audi, Volvo, Jag, BMW...and others are telling us that by 2025, they will have many many cars and SUVs that will be electric only vehicles... COUNTRIES are telling us THEY WILL BE BANNING gasoline powered cars...some countries its in WRITING AS OF NOW... Where does Cadillac stand? One step behind, like usual for the last 30 years... PS: The Escalade may be a hit now....but it was Johnny Come Lately...GM is phoquing lucky that the Escalade caught on... 1. The Navigator was sooooo much more than the Escalade the first 5 years as the Escalade's 1st generation was a make shift Yukon/Tahoe and the 2nd generation not much better... 2. Although Lincoln brought out the Navigator that caught Cadillac and GM with their pants down, GM was lucky Lincoln flubbed it big time... 3. Even Oldsmobile saw it coming as the Bravada's 1st genertion was on the Syclone platormed Jimmy...in the late 1980s or early 1990s when the Bravada came out... People could use semantics to downplay my thinking about land yachts with the XTS...the reality is that the same crowd that used to buy Fleetwoods in the late 1980s along with the FWD Sedan Deville...who also stuck around to buy the Caprice 9C/Impala SS Fleetwood and DeVille , who then stuck around when the Fleetwood got killed and the DeVille became DTS also stuck around to buy the XTS because Cadillac is STILL afraid to let go of this crowd, hence the stigma I talked about... So...maybe the XTS may not be a land yacht, it sure plays to that crowd.. And maybe the Escalade is not a land yacht either, it sure plays to that image... I aint sayin' that the Escalade is a bad thing to sell, what I am saying is that the land yacht stigma is alive and kickin'. The Escalade being a positive(maybe), but the XTS is a definite negative... Spin what I have said in anyway you want to now, I think my thought process is logical enough where I dont have to justify it any longer... Agreed.. But they need the cars that are in the 'hot' niches as fast as they could possibly make them and they best make them BETTER than the best that they can...
-
Oh and Balthy...you asked for proof: Look at bolded number 2 reason...and for January 2017 in the USA...the XTS OUTSOLD the ATS and CTS combined! people wanting to buy an ATS may see an old fogey buying the XTS and he thinks to himself "Lord! I aint THAT old to own a Cadillac, lets see what the usual BMW/M-B/Audi has to offer me!" You could say livery sales, but how in hell does THAT help with negating negative stigmas, especially the ones that I AM ELUDING TO!!!
-
Balthy: Yeah, but that is a fish and a reptile and Dinosaurs were more bird-like. Olds: SEMANTICS...doesnt change the fact that all three are scary as hell, wont hesitate to eat us (the predatory dinos, not the herbivores) and all three co-existed leaving much confusion to the general public in still believing dinosaurs were of the reptilian family rather than very early birds.... Call it what you will, Cadillac leaves a bad taste in people's mouths still and there are many reasons why....and yes...pimp my ride Eldos, Fleetwoods is still one of them... It dont help when cars like the Deville, DTS (same car) and the XTS still exist and are on the showroom floor (XTS) and is practically outselling the other more modern Cadillac cars...
-
OK...explain these animals then: Because BOTH existed when the Stegosauruses roamed the earth, so when I say living breathing prehistoric creatures still walk the earth, and these animals carry dinosaur stigmas, you may want to rethink things...

ALLS I READ IS BLAH BLAH BLAH! Your opinion just as empty as mine! About M-B and Hitler.... M-B is REVISING its history with the Fuhrer! Dont take my word for it....its hearsay....

Oh God! It looks like YOU are one of those still stuck with your head in the sand! Why dont YOU prove to ME it is NOT!!! All Ive heard from you is wishful thinking through rose coloured glasses. Balthy, its EASY to talk the way you do as you dont have anymore answers than I do.. Its clear that YOUR opinion is not more valid than mine....why: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2017/02/cadillac-ats-sales-numbers-figures-results-january-2017/ Model January 2017 Deliveries January 2016 Deliveries January 2017 / January 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 6,453 5,079 +27.05% BMW 3/4 Series 5,976 5,119 +16.74% Audi A4/A5 2,041 1,840 +10.92% Lexus IS/RC 1,870 2,933 -36.24% Cadillac ATS 974 1,067 -8.72% its clear that M-B is selling cars in the sub-ATS market.... its clear that M-B is selling in the market that the CTS should be booming http://gmauthority.com/blog/2017/02/cadillac-cts-sales-numbers-figures-results-january-2017/ U.S. January 2017 Midsize Luxury Sedan Sales Overview Model January 2017 Deliveries January 2016 Deliveries January 2017 / January 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4,155 2,790 +48.9% Audi A6 1,008 841 +19.9% BMW 5 Series 759 3,795 -80.3% Cadillac CTS 691 1,013 -31.8% Lexus GS 422 1,298 -67.5% stop with the phoquing semantic driven bullshyte... I hypothesized an idea I may have...I hear and read shyte about why Cadillac is faltering... Maybe the Escalade DOES bring a negative stigma to would be ATS owners but these new owners dont want to be associated with this: Yes last generation Escalade...still an Escalade...SEMANTICS!!! Like I said...Cadillac to many....seems like a one trick pony.... Pimp my ride Eldos, Fleetwoods and 'Slades... If you dont agree, fine... THAT does NOT mean that the stigma is NOT THERE! You could wax poetic all you like about Mercedes-Benz NOT being luxury ...and I agree to that for the same reasons YOU hold! The thing is, M-B is doing what is necessary to survive and to continue being relevant. I have NO doubt when that strategy starts failing that they will adjust... Cadillac, my friend, needs to do something and of it means doing what JDN is proposing in offering sub-ATS vehicles so be it! About the Escalade....I bet MY LIFE that the next Escalade will be LESS BOLD and more, dare I say it, more European!!! Yeah....for reasons I speculated!!! Laugh and try to ridicule me with nonsense ....I see what JDN is doing and I keep to my opinions because I see the pattern ....The Escala is not a whole lot American in look is it? HMMMMM???!!!
-
Ive been on both sides of the fence. I really dont know what way Cadillac should go. But at least Im aware that Cadillac's image is not healthy. And I listen to many reasons as to why that is...
-
Well Balthy, its there! And THAT is the PROBLEM...DENYING that that stigma exists! Maybe if the powers that be in charge of Cadillac and some fans of Cadillac took their heads outta the sand, then maybe they would see reality in a much clearer way! And then maybe that explains why the Escalade is such a run-a-way success story as compared to say a STS, CTS, CT6... You think that a BOF SUV is all that different from a BOF fullsized sedan? Please refrain from the semantics... Cadillac needs to be bold! Cadillac also has stigma issues they need to shake off regardless how long they ceased production of Fleetwoods, Broughams and Cimarrons...to deny that is living in a bubble! Cadillac needs to be in the niches that people are actually buying their luxury rides, perceived luxury or not! Cadillac needs to introduce cars that you and I are not comfortable with...its because those people that will buy their cars in niches we think is not deserving of Cadillac, its these people that will lift these negative stigmas once and for all!!! Escalade for all I know, is hurting Cadillac to move forward. Big gangsta blinged out mobile versus mafia boss hiding dead bodies in the trunk... Yeah...the stigma is there Balthy...

GM is downsizing its model range if I understood correctly with the selling off of Opel and the explanation given that GM might retreat in some world markets and might stop offering some models in certain niches possibly eliminating a couple of those models all together. With that being said, Cadillac needs a direction to follow. Cadillac needs to sell cars and SUVs regardless what direction GM is heading down and we as of March 31, 2017 should realize that Cadillac needs to do whatever it takes to become relevant to remain in business. I was against cars and SUVs smaller than the ATS. Hell, I was against the ATS. But with the news of GM downsizing, my mindset is changing. Cadillac needs to break free from several stigmas in my opinion going forward from March 31, 2017 and beyond. 1. That Cadillac is a one trick pony selling land yachts. The Eldorado and Fleetwood Series 62 cars are loooong gone but the Escalade took their place, but Cadillac is much more than that! So Cadillac needs more work in convincing people for that. Its clear that the "V" Series cars are not that answer. They help, but another stigma has arose. 2. That Cadillac is a bargain luxury car maker. 3. Cadillac needs to distance itself to the connection to GM ....CHEVROLET through GM.... I dont know if selling ATS and sub ATS cars are that answer because to me, selling small and more or less affordable cars contradict the luxury status Cadillac is pursuing to reclaim its position it held 30-40 years ago, but Cadillac DEFINITELY needs to get butts in the showrooms and into their cars to drive off in them. That does mean more models, and it may mean picking up niches where Buick and Chevrolet may be abandoning....it seems contradictory but maybe a higher status vehicle might succeed where a lesser badge has failed... It hasnt been all fail for the ATS. People have bought/leased it. The ATS stumbled because it and the 3rd gen CTS were poorly conceived and to boot, so was the CT6... All 3 models step on each others toes somehow or other. So... Cadillac needs the right vehicle to sell in the HOT niches and if they fail to do that, they will miss yet another boat and train ride to relevancy. And if that means sub-ATS vehicles, so be it! They better be built right though befitting a top tier luxury line-up!
