Tesla Decides Model S Isn't Fast Enough, Announces P100D
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
The Model S gets just more and popular as it ages... That is kinda the reverse flow of how it is in the fossil fuel automobile world. The people buying the Model S seem to be relishing at the fact that it is indeed getting faster. While getting more range. Funny Mr. Fapturbo that you mentioned the Hellcat as muscle car fans, enthusiasts, is exactly what they are expecting of their muscle cars. Vette, Mustang and Camaro owner/fans too. Faster, better, more efficient all the while still having a passion for the car, the brand and the nameplate. That is what is happening at Tesla with the Model S. The Tesla Model S has become an Impala SS, a Pontiac GTO, A Ford Mustang, a BMW M3...It is an icon. The Model S HAS to keep on achieving ludicrous speed in order to dominate the sales charts of cars costing $100 000, which in turn will fuel sales of the Model3 and advance the charging infrastructure... GM once had that from the 1950s all the way to the 1970s, even the 1980s. Let us not be pissy just because Tesla found their groove and is emulating GM in that regard. (to have a loyal following that EXPECT their beloved GM cars to keep on blowing their minds each and every new generation!) GM is the one to fumble the ball. Tesla was not even the one to pick it up. Tesla is a brand new team. An expansion team that so far, has made all the right draft choices and trades and is kicking ass in the standings, awaiting their first championship. Fans are in the stands, the team itself still has to pay off its high falutin stadium, and yes, the stadium used city funds to be built, but dividends will eventually show. Anyway, the city prides itself with Tesla's colours and Tesla is a fabric of the city and vice versa Sure, not quite the Dallas Cowboys with 5 Superbowl vistories or New York Yankees 27 World Series or Montreal Canadiens 24 Stanley Cups being proudly flaunted but they certainly are a contender to win their first. -
The Beach Boys version this tie around! And we finish the night off with Trooper. Good Night everybody!

Yeah, Pontiac does it better than both Olds and Chevy...from 1964-1967. Especially 1966-1967. But I still prefer a 1966 Olds 442. The Pontiac is all grunt and muscle. Awesome! The Olds is the gentleman's hotrod! Perfect blend of grit and class.
-
But as usual, I prefer the Oldsmobile version.

The Malibu belongs in the Beautiful Automobile Appreciation thread. Ill put it there myself. You want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

I feel you. Trust me. Montreal was/is run the same idiotic way. With our new mayor....3 years already as our mayor, Denis Coderre, things are a tad better. He has put some pride in our city again. And that also means good governing. Maybe with some fanfare, but hey, Montreal was always a town with some spunk. One thing with Montreal parking, especially Down Town and Old Montreal parking and other very popularbusy districts, there is no parking....there are only parking meters that are only good for 2hours in the Old Montreal/Down Town core that will cost you $6 or so and the parking lots are expensive....like $10 for 2 hours and then $30/$35 for the day. Either way, you are paying that $30-$40, at least they wont tow you anymore, like they used to. Maybe the parking ticket is a tad higher. The last Montreal parking ticket I got was in 2007 or so and it was $30. They will only tow you in the winter when your car messes with snow removal. I havent seen any GT350s on the road yet in Montreal. But then again, all summer long, I havent seen any Camaros either.... Maybe 2 Zetas a 1 Alpha 4 cylinder.... I literally have seen more Gen 2 Firebirds than I have seen modern Camaros. I literally have seen more 1980s Fox Body Mustangs than I have seen modern Camaros. No joke, those 1980s Fox Body Mustangs are everywhere in the Montreal region for some reason.
-
And I thought parking in Montreal was a bitch.... All you get in Montreal is just a 30-40 dollar ticket.

Question of the Day: Bare minimum acceptable horsepower?
oldshurst442 replied to ccap41's topic in The Lounge
3000-4000 lbs vehicle? OK....as a bare minimum, no thrills driving but just enough to get you to work, from point A to point B, hauling family, groceries and all other necessary junk with safe acceleration levels and enough juice to actually haul said stuff? That would be 200/250 horsepower with 200/250 ft.lbs torque. With 200 HP/200 ft.lbs being closer to the 3000 lbs car and 250 HP/250 ft.lbs being closer to the 4000 lbs car. Crazy speeds wont be achieved immediately, but enough ooomph is there to actually perform family car stuff. Dont worry though, with those power levels, unsafe speeds for the street will be attained just the same. Now, for pure driving enjoyment. Obviously a fun driving chassis is needed with all the necessary hardware besides the engine is also needed such as tight steering and appropriate suspension tuning and proper brakes....but for a 3000-4000 lbs vehicle 300-400 horsepower and 300-400 ft.lbs is quite enough for shenanigans.... 300 HP/300 ft.lbs being closer to the 3000 lbs car and 400 HP/400 ft.lbs being closer to the 4000 lbs car. Actually, power levels this high get you into trouble real fast with the law and with the safety of the public road system for yourself and others that share the road with you. -
I dont personally see the TL in the Escala although I could see if one does though. On a side profile.... The reason why I dont see it is because I own a TL myself and I always see my TL as a clunky machine, not a sleek one as the Escala seems to be. Plus I think of my TL as a Stealth Fighter with all the crazy triangular shapes its got incorporated. clunky with triangular shapes and all kinds of different angles going on clunky with triangular shapes and all kinds of different angles going on

Fiat News: Rumorpile: A Fiat 124 Coupe Is Said To Be In the Works
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
@dfelt Thanx alot for being condescending you arrogant piece of... Yes. Yes. I took the liberty to do some creative editing in your post for the humor effect. You being 6'6''/280, and I at 5'6.5"/170ish, I wont be being too mouthy with you buddy! OK, back to the Fiat 124 coupe. Serious question: Does Fiat have the engineering plans and intellectual materials and access to the production facilities to do this on their own or will Mazda be doing it for them? -

Tesla Decides Model S Isn't Fast Enough, Announces P100D

Im impressed. 21/2 seconds. Wow. But there is another number that Im even more impressed with. 315. With all perfect conditions I imagine, but 315 non-the-less. That would be practically a non-stop drive from Montreal to Boston in an all electric vehicle. A tad short from what a fossil fuel car does. Well folk, get this range on a family car price and say good-bye to the fossil fuel automobile even with the current charging infrastructure system in place...at least in the States and Provinces that are electric car tolerant... -

oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
@Drew Saturn Sky or even the Pontiac Solstice are nicely sculpted cars, yes. I can never do a BMW Z3. The Z8 is my style. That Fiat 124 really hits my buttons though, as much as the A/C Shelby Cobra, Pontiac Solstice, BMW Z8 have. (I really really love the BMW Z8) Come to think of it, the perfect Fiat 124 Abarth for me to emulate a British Roadster with guts under the hood (like an A/C Shelby Cobra) would be that 3.9 liter V8 engine from the BMW M5/Z8. I just saw a dream fantasy car being born right before me. I would love to buy a Fiat 124 roadster and engine swap it and drop in that BMW "4.0" V8.... I TRIED DOING THAT "@ name" THINGY AND IT DID NOT WORK. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO IT....Hmmmmm. -

Fiat News: Rumorpile: A Fiat 124 Coupe Is Said To Be In the Works
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
I think the Fiat 124 looks plenty masculine in itself. Because of the little differences that Fiat did over the Miata as Drew pointed out. Let us not forget that Fiat put some Italian flair to it. And we all know that sometimes, Italians know how to beautify things. Yes. Yes. Sometimes those designs are not masculine at all and very feminine with all kinds of curves. Its still sexy. Very masuline this is: Or is it? Its got very curvaceous body work... Yes....the open gaping mouth, little hood vent, side pipes and 427 under the hood make it macho....remember...the less version of this car looks like this: The aggressive paint job on the abarth minimizes the curvaceousness of the front fenders, not that they are imposing to begin with, but that paint job is very macho. Alls it takes to make the Fiat 124 into a "427 Cobra" is an LS swap, bulgier front and rear fenders, open gaping mouth and side pipes.... Then we will probably end up with something like this....(with a LS rather than a V10) Besides, most European sports cars are designed with a more feminine sexiness in mind rather than agressive masculine ruggedness of American sports cars. This latest Miata is most definitely more macho than all other Miatas before it... That is my take on it anyway... -
Fastback versus Notchback is what we are saying here? I look at today's conventional roof lined cars such a Honda Accord or BMW 3 or 5 Series and they look like aerodynamic (because of the rounded front ends and the like) bricks. The 1980s cars were all square all around, which made notchback styling awesome, but when the 1990s came along, the rounded contours made the notchback styling look weird. Most 1990s cars had odd proportions. I find that the " 4 door coupe" thingy styling of many of the cars today have very nice sleek designs. Kinda like the 1960s again. (Dont hate on me for that comment Balthy) and I like that! I find the Escala wears it elegantly unlike the awkward proportions of the Audi A7 or Lincoln MKZ. (The Ford Mondeo hatchback back pulls it off waaaaay sexier) The problem I have with the Escala is that it dont have the ballz out "Im a PHOQUING Cadillac so get the PHOQUE out of my way" styling! Its too elegant and not enough ballz. Cadillacs always had that perfect balance of arrogance and elegance.

*SIGH* SMK....things are getting fixed at Cadillac. Yes. Yes. Cadillac bespoked V8s were needed when Northstar was decided to be phased out and should have been replaced then. Northstar was left on the vine to rot. That was then. This is now. Using the "corporate" V8 which happens to be THE MOST versatile, MOST lethal, MOST WELL KNOWN V8 on the planet aint a bad move. People that view that as "just a Chevy" engine would never buy a bespoked 4.2 TT V8 Cadillac anyway. Other nitpickings would be found. Mr. DFELT had the right idea about Electric power. Yes Cadillac needs to move forward with electric power and with this new 4.2 liter V8. GM has decent EV technology. Better than any other internal combustion engine automobile manufacturer in my opinion. Lets be honest. Nobody is better than Tesla. Cadillac does not need to be better than Tesla like Mercedes or BMW or Audi has to be for image. The P100 is with us at Tesla. Porsche could talk a big game but unfortunately for Porsche, money talks and BS walks. And that is true for every internal combustion engine automobile manufacturer at this point in time. Cadillac has not talked a big EV game so there is no pressure there to be the best unlike the Germans are doing. And so far, other than BMW, they dont even HAVE an EV themselves. For all we know, Cadillac is probably keeping it hush hush on their EV technology. We do know it exists through Chevrolet....we just dont know how Cadillac will advance it for their vehicles. Speculation is all we have. I think Johan learned from the ELR mistakes. As far as the Escala goes, like every other Cadillac concept in the last 15 years, its just a styling exercise...I doubt the Hoffmeister kink will make it to production.

I would also like to add that the front "blade" headlights reminisce of stacked headlights of the 1960s in which Pontiac and Chrysler (although slanted) made famous...and Cadillac. Cadillac in 1964 or 1965. This is from 1968 and to me, best exemplifies the stacked, blade look of Cadillac that modern Cadillacs use...

MEH.... Your Canadian friends probably always vote for the Tories.... No different than what Republicans think of ANY Democrat. And Vice Versa for Dems against the Repubs... Our country is also in disgust with our politicians....for the longest time no elections resulted in a majority.... The Liberals had a minority government a couple of times, then the Conservatives the last 15-20 years. Beause we dont trust ANY of our parties... The election before this one, Harper's Tories managed a majority government in office only to phoque it up the very next election. How bad did Harper's Tories phoque it up? Well, a very young, inexperienced but hip Trudeau won a majority government in office while the Conservatives barely registered.....the second time in history for the Conservatives to leave such a bad taste for Canadians....Mulroney did the same thing.... How bad did Mulrnoey phoque it up? Well, the Liberals took power again after Mulroney phoqued it up when Trudeau Senior phoqued it up and Mulroney took over the first time around... And trust me......Mulroney phoqued it up real bad. And trust me, Trudeau Senior also phoqued it real bad, although not as bad as Mulroney. But close. As bad as Harper bad!!! Harper was just as bad as Trudeau Senior...but the Torie lovers will NEVER admit to that!!! So as you could see....Canadian politics is really not that different than American politics... (The NDP really never has a chance, they lost it big time sometime in the late 1970s early 1980s and Trudeau Senior came from retirement and came into power for his 3rd and final time before he phoqued it up leaving Mulroney to govern us 8 or so years and then he phoqued it up...NDP came close 2 elections ago, but the man died on us...RIP Mr. Layton) I am somewhere in the middle of all3 of our parties. Sometimes I am a Liberal. Sometimes I am a Torie. Sometimes I am a NDP guy... Basically....I really dont care who the phoque is in power...the shyte that comes out of all 3 parties smells like SHYTE!!!

Dodge News: Dodge Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona Return for 2017
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
I am of the opposite opinion of yours. I am tiring of the Charger's looks, and of the Chrysler 300. But I cant get enough of the Challenger. For sure I want a new look/new platformed Challenger to grace our presence. I am more than happy to own a 2016/2017 Challenger as is.- 20 replies

Yeah.... This concept's face looks familiar to me in the form of Elmiraj grille and Aston Martin Lagonda fascia rolled into one. I like it but like others, I would prefer vertical headlamps like the Elmiraj had. It did not blow me away like the other concepts, it is pretty, but like Frisky said, it dont feel like a Cadillac. Im ready to let go of Arts&Science, but only if it is replaced by something that identifies what a Cadillac should look and feel like.I dont know what that is, but this concept's exterior does not have a Cadillac feel to it. Let me repeat, I like it, and Im sure it will be quite imposing in person, but so far, I aint feeling any Cadillac vibes with it. Interior is simplistic in a very elegant way. I LOVE THAT. Im not sure about the suit material effect they chose, its different and its cool, and I think it could work...instead of the usual all around leather that has been the go to luxury material. Suede is leather, but I was never a fan of it either on a jacket or car interior. I think I might like the expensive personally tailored designer suit look of it all! LOVE THAT TRUNK. The way it opens, the volume, the way its designed and the way the interior materials of it gel. It looks expensive.. Who ever thought that a trunk could be so luxurious and beautifully made to look expensive like the rest of a car's interior???!!!
