Yale Study Debunks Myth that EVs Create More Emissions than ICE
ccap41 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Industry News
Don't be pessimistic! You're the Silverado of humans, you'll live welllllll past your expected life! You may be beaten on, pulling well above your rated weight, mismatching tires, and a sagging headliner, but you'll still be chugging along! -
Kia News: Kia and Electrify America Adds Free Charging to EV6 Buyers
ccap41 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Kia
They did start earlier than I thought. I had no clue this thing was for sale in August of last year. I know it's only a few months difference but I thought it was "newer" than that. https://insideevs.com/news/560120/kia-ev6-wholesale-december-2021/ But, EVs accounted for 3.2% of Kia's sales last year. That's not too bad. -
It's one thing for the vehicle to be designed around being an EV but another to make a classic into an EV. I don't want a classic muscle/sports car to be silent, period.

Kia News: Kia and Electrify America Adds Free Charging to EV6 Buyers

Wasn't that only like the first month of sales? I can't imagine the sales of that will stay at 0.002% of KN sales. Garbage sample size. -
It would be so disappointing to drive something this beautiful and have zero engine/exhaust noises.

I can't imagine they'd price the Ranger Raptor the same as the F150 Raptor.

80kW battery? That thing will travel an awesome 75 miles before needing to charge. I'm very confident that electricity will be a better mover of weight with superior control having front and rear motors and they're extremely heavy vehicles with all of the batteries already. My only issue is the range is cut so much that it just isn't worth it quite yet.

Lambda SUVs are about as far from "killer" as it gets in my book. FWD, same torque-less V6 from 20 years ago. Not saying they're not competitive, just SO FAR AWAY from something being described as "killer", to me.
-
"very competitive" is far from a "killer product" Camaro wouldn't be dropping in sales for like 5 years if it was a "killer product" like the Charger/Challenger, right? While I agree as a whole, Rivian has the Amazon contract that should take up a few years of production as (hopefully) the demand builds for their other products.

The same reason being powered by diesel was advertised differently, see TDI's.

I love old brick buildings and hate to see them run down and go to waste.

Sorry for your loss, bud...

You get like 20-something cubic feet of additional coke in a Lightning frunk! Electric trucks just make sense for drug smuggling. ?

Two of my best friends (twin brothers) each have Bostons. One of them is still a young pup and I think only 3 years old but the other is probably 13ish. It's always a little sad to see such an energetic dog slow down with its old age. He hasn't had any major health issues but his age says something is coming. Luckily he still has his sight. It's always funny when an animal can't see because of obvious things we see but it's extremely sad 2 seconds later.

As long as there's a muffler attached (which there probably isn't), why wouldn't this be allowed? Best looking OEM off-road wheel that isn't a steelie?

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
ccap41 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Do you have a link to this test showing it as one of the "safest out there"? Having money to buy expensive tires is 100% relatable to this conversation. More homeless = more people with less money to spend on tires. -

That sounds like an EXTREMELY expensive option for the consumer. -

This is not a cheap tire issue. It's a lack of maintenance issue. Low tire pressure isn't because the tire is cheap. You're running a run-flat tire on your vehicles then, right? I'm sure they have run flats for Escalades. I'm sorry you live in such a homely place. I guess I should have known because Seattle is #3 in the nation in homeless population. Come to the Midwest. There's hardly ever vehicles on the side of the road. Is there any proof that this specific tire is safer than others? Or are you just saying this because it's expensive and sounds like a good way to justify the cost? -

This isn't a cheap tire issue, this is a user issue. Also not a cheap tire issue. 2/3 of your reasonings have nothing to do with cheap tires. Do you REALLY see that many people on sides of the road with blown out tires? My commute is 31 miles each way to work and it's not a common occurrence to see people on the side of the road with flat tires, to downtown STL. Plus, you claim to have been working from home and not going out places so I have high doubts you're not exaggerating here. Also, $400 set of tires isn't necessarily the cheapest. It depends so much on the vehicle they're going on. If it's a 15" wheel, that's not a super cheap tire. If it's a 20" truck tire, that's extremely cheap. My Nitto Motivo tires (235/50R18) were $135/tire and I believe about $650 with install + tax. That's definitely not cheap, but also far from $250/tire Michelin Latitude Tour with mediocre reviews. -

It bums me out that Mercedes' design language for their EVs is...this... EQE, it also has a terrible name. I can tell you've never sold tires to the appliance-buyer. They are NOT in the market for anything close to $1000, let alone well above that. There is a very small subset of appliance buyers that just take their stuff to their dealership and say "give me the best". -
Buuuuut, it's also been long enough that the year over year comparisons are also over a pandemic year. I don't think they're meaningless, but also not super critical, IMO.
