  1. At some point, after recalling 50 million vehicles for assembly & design deficiencies in a decade's time -some grotesquely glaring- the adjective 'reliable' becomes gravely inappropriate. Says the guy looking for a sub-10K domestic SUV/CUV. And what does that have to do with his statement at all? Well, he brought up recalls by a company that first off, sells/has sold significantly more cars across the globe than GM, and which were by and large, for minor things that don't affect drivability. Conversely, GM has been wrought with recalls itself lately, and they are of much more severity than Toyota's. In other words, it's a hypocritical statement. Which, again, has NOTHING to do with him looking for a cheap SUV/CUV. Oh and that recall severity is very subjective because some would call the ability to stop your car pretty severe, as would the same be said for frame rust. That's a pretty big deal to a lot of folks, just like the GM issues were.
  2. A mighty fine sports day for me yesterday. The Patriots lost and the Panthers won!
  3. Given the attention VW has received over the diesel emission scandal, it does not surprise me that the Cruze struggled in sales. A lot of people probably became a little wary that it was more widespread than it is. GM is doing the right thing by not giving up though and making sure that the new generation Cruze diesel will have it's day.
  4. While the backseat is snug in the ATS, that is true of all models in its class and there is more than enough room in the front. I am 5'10", 215 lbs. and I had room to spare up front. The back will always depend on who you are sitting behind but again, this is true of models in the ATS's class.
  5. Really don't care for it in silver (but I say that about most cars out there) but that car is downright gorgeous in black! Very stately and modern in that color.
  6. You didn't answer my question. The key phase there was "if you HAD to move to China" and you side step that completely. That pretty much answers my question though. Thanks.
  7. But I bet just about everything else you own is made in China. Love how the line is drawn because it is the company you DON'T prefer. Given that Benz has a Chinese facility or two, let me ask you a question. Say you had to move to China (call it job related) and you want to buy a new Benz there that you really like (a long wheelbase E-Class is made there) and that it happens to be made there. Would you buy it?
  8. That is factually not true. Look up "coma" which can be a few hours up to many years. Not saying that this case is not full of BS in that regard, but had to clarify that you can, in fact, be out cold for an extended period of time. You're trying to correct me here, and you're not understanding the context. The person in the story says they were knocked unconscious for several hours, and awoke in the car. That is medically IMPOSSIBLE. It's a phony plot device exclusively in movies and TV that the majority of people think is true. When someone is knocked out in a fight, their brain immediately "reboots" and you see them start coming out of it in less than a minute. If they do not wake up within moments, it's life threatening head trauma that requires hospitalization, like someone taking a full-on baseball bat swing to the skull. If something knocks you out, you wake up moments later a bit foggy and soon come back to a state of normal awareness. If something knocks you into a coma, you're fighting for your life. You're not understanding me. I'm not disagreeing about this case. The person is full of it. However, you said that you could not be knocked out that long without anesthesia and I simply said that was not true with an example of why. My statement was not in reference to this person's case, to reiterate. A coma is not an example of getting knocked out. That would be severe head trauma. People don't refer to coma patients as having been "knocked out." Enough with the stupid semantics. Dude. No need for the drama. We were saying the same thing in a different way. No sweat off my ass.

  10. They are profitable and those margins have gone up every year since bankruptcy. Again, pay attention to the actual facts. That is also not the ONLY way for them to make more profit. Their trucks are proof of that alone. And don't sit there and now try to dismiss Toyotas numbers. You brought it up and were corrected as to why those numbers are misleading. Admit you just pulled that out of your rear and own up to your error for once. Even if you take away the currency manipulation and yen exchange rates, Toyota is still kicking butt. That article mentioned they get like 500 million from the yen exchange, even if it was $1 billion, they still made an $18 billion profit. I don't like Toyota nor their products, but that company bankrolls cash. I know GM makes their money on trucks, that is how the company has been since the 90s, all the profits came from trucks with Hummer, Escalade, the GMT360s, Silverado/Sierra, Aztek/Rendezvous, Colorado/Canyon, etc. They had all those trucks in the early-mid 2000s and still went bankrupt. Their trucks didn't save them then. If you look at the current GM lineup and current auto sales over all. Crossovers, particularly small crossovers are growing, luxury segment is growing. Pick-up trucks and full size SUV is sort of a flat market, plus you have new Tundra, Tacoma, Titan, Ridgeline hitting the pick up segments. I don't think GM can hope to grow global Silverado sales 20%, but I do think they could grow global Cadillac sales by 50%. And Cadillacs should have high profit margins. If GM could sell 500,000 Cadillacs a year at $4,000 profit per vehicle that is $2 Billion in total profit. If they sold 1 million Cadillacs that is $4 billion in profit, that is more than all of GM makes now. That is why Cadillac is the most important brand GM has. Stop, stop, just stop. Until you see the folly of this, just stop. Don't forget to grease those goalpost wheels though. Makes them easier to move. BTW, GM has been in the middle of a $12 billion investment in 8 new Cadillac models for the rest of this decade so you have been misinforming yourself if you think GM hasn't been taking a more aggressive, i.e. more money making, approach to Cadillac's future. Sure doesn't seem like it but stranger things have happened.
  11. That is true and he is full of it if he says otherwise. You have no control over your muscles when your unconscious so "force feeding" becomes necessary.

  13. Again, you have ignored every other factor that came into play here. Simply amazing. I've never seen goalposts with wheels built in to them. Must be why it's so easy for you to move them.
  14. You literally ignored EVERY OTHER FACTOR (like the bankruptcy, how Toyota exports, and to how their numbers are reported in the first place) in the article to focus only on the dollar. Oh and Germans are benefitting from the Euro so of course the Yen does not factor. DUH!
  15. That is factually not true. Look up "coma" which can be a few hours up to many years. Not saying that this case is not full of BS in that regard, but had to clarify that you can, in fact, be out cold for an extended period of time.
  16. Since you wanted to bring up profits, I though I would share this article with you which explains in very good detail why GM's profits are behind companies like Toyota. Inform yourself. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/05/09/why-cant-general-motors-earn-profits-like-toyotas.aspx
  17. Now provide us with GMs total cost of operation and then you might have a convincing argument. That is only sure way to support your assertion about GM and their profits. Until then, more goal post moving and more BS quite honestly.
  18. not getting help from the Japanese Government... not to mention improving their line-up in a way that produces superior vehicles.. Toyota on the other hand.. not so much. Even their flagship Prius Hybrid is falling behind the competition in terms of.. wait for it.. wait.. TECHNOLOGY VW made $11.9 billion in profit in 2014. $9 billion more than GM on roughly the same number of sales. Audi alone generates more dollars in profit than all of GM. GM needs to put a bigger focus on Cadillac, they should have a bigger line up and get more new product than Buick and GMC combined. And they are getting burned for their profiteering aren't they? How's that profit going to look after the dust settles on the diesel controversy? Stop trying to move the goal posts when you don't understand the game being played.
  19. Man, being a Panthers fan is stressful! Even in victory, they have to make me sweat!
  20. They used to have ZERO FWD models and it's real easy to pad your "18" count when you want to include every variant of each main model. 12 to 3 if not counting model variants or the vans. They used to have zero but the world changed, and one of their fwd cars is a compliance car to meet electric car regs. And the front drive is at the very bottom of the brand. It isn't on their flagship. The FWD GLA is not electric. In fact only one out of the three FWD MBs are electric so that little excuse does not fly. There are other reasons for them doing so but I understand that you have to come up with whatever excuse you can to justify your favorite make having what you would normally detest from anyone else. BTW, a world a difference between a $50K Lincoln Continental and $100K+ (in most trims) S-Class that it DOES NOT COMPETE WITH. Don't why everything from everyone else has to measure to an S-Class, even when said car does not compete with it. Did you read my post? I said "one of their fwd cars is a compliance car to electric requirements." The B-class is only sold in like 10 states even. The CLA gets 38 mpg, they need it for CAFE, and it is a 208 hp sub-compact car, to which you don't really need rwd for that sort of car. And the Acura, Volvo, Golf GTI crowd they are competing with probably prefer fwd. I personally don't like the CLA or GLA, but them sitting on the lot doesn't offend me. I don't think people dislike a Corvette because Chevy also makes the Spark. If you like the Corvette, you aren't going to care what other cars are sold on the same lot. I know the Continental doesn't compete with the 2016 S-class. I am saying the Continental is behind where the S-class was 13 years ago. And I reiterated that because mentioning that it is electric has NO bearing on FWD application of the other two FWD models that are not electric. It's those endless excuses that you grant for Mercedes that you don't give for anyone else that is the problem with you (as well as your constant goal post moving. Again, if you know the Conti does not compete with the S Class, then why bring it up from any time period? It makes no sense and it's just another shameless attempt on your part to dog anything that is not Mercedes (or even German for that matter).
  21. Don't be daft... different types of cars. Why should a buyer be asked to pay $60k or whatever the Continental will cost for a chassis and drivetrain inferior to a $30k Mustang? This is why Volvo S80, Lincoln sedans, Acura RLX, don't sell, why DeVille/DTS sales tanked into cancellation of the product. People don't want to spend big bucks for a car with garden variety front drive, 6-speed, transverse engine, etc. If I were going to pay $60k or more for a car, I'd want performance, handling and luxury. Or imagine if Honda was going to make a full size pick up to compete with the F150 and Silverado, and the Honda full size pick up was front wheel drive, with all wheel drive optional, 3.5 V6 and a turbo V6 option. Would the truck buyers used to V8s and rear drive body on frame want a unibody fwd honda full size truck? No, it would get laughed out of the segment. Good lord. What is with your pointless comparisons? Based on your logic, why would anyone buy an accent bones G-Wagon when one can get a just a capable (and far more comfortable) GLK for half the price? See that? That's your logic right now.
