  1. I do believe Mercedes is now kind of an in-between brand based on some of their offerings. Like the S-Class. That is a true flying spur competitor. I think the new E-Class will do well. Lincoln will have good progress with this vehicle. If anything - it's an exercise on their new approach for being customer-oriented. I think the as yet unseen Thoroughbred interior theme will use this wood trim... and it's prolly my favourite of any wood trim as of now... I don't care what anyone says...that is some damn good looking wood trim - either the pattern or finish or both. Take your pick...
  2. I really don't think they're making one. Motortrend made a big fluff piece in order to get clicks on their website... For shame...
  3. Have you seen it in person yet? The size and presence of it in person definitely outdue the pics because I don't think it looks like anything special in pictures either. The car looks more fluid in person. And actually slightly shorter than I thought. And the proportions are like nothing, nothing like the whale the MKS was after its refresh. And the amount of room behind the front seats is comical. I almost wonder whey they don't have a flip-down table option....
  4. I'm not trying to paint a rosy picture though. The competitive set mentioned by Lincoln are about to be completely redesigned all over save for the CT6, but even that is a brand new car. Legacy issues plague the brand here - and recent Lincolns have had some pre-production build quality issues. Nor are customers across the pond so fickle. But overall, I have to say right away, do customers in China, the Emirates and perhaps even Russia (where prestige sedans with backseat space are paramount)..how many of those customers actually drive themselves? But I think the car is focused. It doesn't exactly have the well-rounded appeal of an Audi A6, but it fits Lincoln. When I think of Lincoln, I don't really think of sport sedans. I imagine plush interiors and a classy look - a rather stodgy and traditional look. And the recent Lexus exteriors are no longer quiet luxury. They're very polarizing, and the only ones I think work sort of are the GS and the LX. Beyond that, their interiors have the issues of some Toyota bettering them or being very close for thousands less. With Lexus re-inventing itself to be hip and sporty, I have to say Lincoln has a good shot. But they gotta deliver. The press reviews better go along the lines of this : excellent interiors, better than average handling, very isolating, supple ride and space. Lots of space because of the stodgy styling. And excellent tech. As in Sync 3 having simple controls, the seats, audio being top of the line and things along those lines.
  5. It's the terrible auto-show lighting. Here's a different one of the same interior basically. The Lexus interior has no flaws when it comes to fitment I'll say that for sure. But some of the finishes, especially since the console isn't padded on the sides is questionable - when the Avalon has real stitching . The Continental is doing what most American luxury cars are known for - lots of wood, lots of leather, and lots of metal accents. I'm waiting to see the Thoroughbred interior. That one will have saddle leather and really nice matte finish burl wood.
  6. I found this image online on the interwebs. That's a Black label w/out driver's package (which blacks out the grille and chrome accents) with what appears to the be the first indication of the Equestrian themed Thoroughbred interior. I like what I see. Though the wheels in the Reserve trim car LOOK so much better IMO. The car doesn't suffer from having a big looking back-end though. The XTS had that problem with its proportions.
  7. Looks exceptionally clean. Well done...
  8. You can lump cars like the Lexus ES, Lincoln MKZ, Lexus RX, Cadillac XT5, Lincoln MKX, Continental, XTS...all together. In sum, they're viable drivers of sustained profitability for luxury marques. However, I think just like the XTS, the Lincoln Continental will be one that higher level that allows for credible luxury status. Again, we still need a press review. I'm very sure it's going to get high marks for its interior...
  9. I think a good looking, Avista styled Regal can do a lot. I'd buy that. In fact...I would make that a top priority. Make a FWD-based car look RWD. Mazda, and Volvo are really good at it with their recent cars.
  10. Detroit Electric is basically doing what Tesla is doing, expect they're about a decade late. Sorry DFelt...Tesla wanted to make cars that look different but are still recogniable as pods. How about that Apple car? Totally bland pod of a car. It's like prepackaging apple pie. It's isn't the really thing. Apple car =/= Apple Pie...
  11. The 2.7 V6 probably has decent low end torque, so it might not be that bad. However I don't think anyone is buying the Continental for speed. They would be buying it for interior, and unless you pay $65k+ for Revel audio, 30 way seats, leather and fabric upgrades, etc, then you aren't even getting that good of an interior. I think the people spending $60k or more will want some performance, and the people that just want a comfortable interior with no performance are happy with a Lexus ES350 for $43k. So there in lies the hard sell for Lincoln. The ES does not have a good interior for its price. I think this car follows the formula of the XTS. And I feel that car is very luxurious. I almost a hard time saying if the CT6 has a better interior than THAT car.. In fact - the CT6 does have more wood trim in Platinum trim. But the XTS has LEATHER everywhere....and it's nicely padded stuff too. Which the CT6 lacks. If the Lincoln can have that level of padding, where everything is like a marshmallow, that would be great...
  12. Well, the Volvo S90 is a heavy car too. And their twin-charged engine not exactly a full replacement for their old inline 5/6 cylinders in performance. I think 0-60 from 7 sec. down to 6.0 seconds for the 3.0TT are wholly reasonable. People driving this car are supposed to NOT be in a hurry.
  13. It's priced like the S90 and the Audi A6. It does not have the cachet to be priced like that. Then again - Lincoln is making this for China. Where brands like Cadillac, Lincoln. Mercedes - they all have very high brand cachet. FWD available is kinda crummy, but then again, you can get FWD in the XTS. Like I mentioned before, there's a healthy price gap between this and the CT6. And luxury buyers are not buying RWD sedans like they used to - all of them are down recently. I think it's got a fair shot - but it better do damn well in press reviews. And the $70k version better be good.
  14. Does the car look good on it's own? My opinion - not really. But I have poor taste in luxury vehicles. Given the money, I'd beg for a CT6 coupe and pocket the $50-70k less it'd cost...
  15. Anytime a truck is hurtling into some object I think the object will always be worse off... I think the tough part is that sometimes you have a huge engine causing intrusion. I would think the Chevy Small Blocks and steel would make for a safer design. Ah well. I guess going to aluminum will fix it. I always thought that stupid bear commercial by Chevy was extremely stupid. Speaking out of both ears basically.
  16. The styling of the CLA is fine. It looks like a baby CLS. Other than the outline of the grille nothing is actually shared. The polygons are completely different... it doesn't help Mercedes loves to use grey as their show car paint of choice...
  17. Benz A-Class and B-Class have been sharing Benz grilles quite a while. Again, I'm fine with grille sharing. And the CLA looks good. It just doesn't drive how it looks. What is a wrong with a small car getting premium styling? The issue isn't that this new top of the line variant lacks the substance to back its looks. Now I think the front-end itself here is weaker. What SMK suggested - just using the regular S550 grille would have been more ostentatious, but it has precious gems and metal. And some nuances - the overall front ends are not exact carbon copies. The grille is the same, but everything else, be it headlights or front splitters are different. I can't see any reason to complain. This vehicle offers everything and more its competitors costing 3 times as much and weighing hundreds of pounds more do. And the interior is exceptionally-made. Do I like it? No. Still waiting on El Mi Ciel....
  18. And how is the Audi A3 an Audi TT? And the CLA is itself is meant to be a swoopy sedan not unlike the larger CLS. Which itself is another on of those cars that are meant to be a coupe. This is a Mercedes coupe. Non-paying, non existent customers are preaching to the choir. I fail to see this grille choice as deal-breaking issue. The grille itself is made of some precious stones and metal.
  19. The M4 is matched by the M2. It's a case of milking the cash cow. BMW probably isn't selling as many M models in their traditional sense - but they're milking their hardcore fanatics.
  20. It never had a grille to being with, the black cladding was not a functional piece, title is therefore wrong.
  21. Actually almost all of the auto press is fine with how the CLA looks. That's not the issue. It's just the way it drives. I'm okay with the way the CLA looks and damn well everyone in the luxury segment does this. You have the same Audi R8 grille that shows up on the MQB based Audi TT. Design sharing, especially that even Cadillac now subscribes to the one size fits all mentality, is a problem of the entire industry.
  22. It works like just another electric powertrain. Making techy looking marketing communication "OH LOOK AT ME I AM TECHY" style videos doesn't do anything for me. However, I do realize that EVs are vastly superior, and what the Bolt offers is a compelling alternative to the upcoming Nissan. But a Model 3 competitor? yeah right. How about a sedan version of the Buick Avista, EV like you mention DFelt. THAT is a desirable car, and THAT would be very compelling alternative to anything Tesla.
  23. NIce camouflage. I almost didn't see the car....
