I would agree with everyone here, there are valid reasons to go any way. I would just dare them to continue the course, build vehicles with a consistent identity, and if you find a segment not worth pursuing, don't go after it. I would though however find a way to bridge the interior quality differences with the CT6 and S-Class. Whether that is resolved with a separate model higher up or a refresh, that does not matter. I would never forget that the V8 is Cadillac heritage. Keep it until it is no longer possible to do so.

Cool story hyper. Were it so easy to have a partner that has the same wants from totally divergent means.

I must say I think the emoticon logic in this post works kinda really well. Random thought about my reaction to cp_thenerd malibu's interesting family dynamic where the in-laws are totally sold on AWD and it's a must-have.... So, do you think the emoticon logic works? Reactions? Thoughts? Comments? More random thoughts? Oh. I just thought it was a funny story.

I'd say Cadillac is more differentiated now then it ever has been for the last 20 years. It has product wherever it does compete. They have a focus on light-weighting, and Super Cruise will be just fine. Not everyone is going to jump to the nearest competing autonomous features as soon as they come out. I think what matters most is how they deal with the legacy issues. They may have a large heritage, but fairly recent going back the last few previous decades, the decline, that's awry.

No. Cadillac is perceived as high-tech from the younger crowd. Why? Most of the people my age here, when I show them the new pics of Cadillac, they are very pleased. Now about the price....none of them could be said to be buying in the segment. They are mostly subsuming to value for money, so they like Hyundai and Kia.... and you know the rest. Now...heritage? F*** it. Cadillac can reinvent itself. Heritage is just history with a future. I do not agree with the naming system AT ALL.... but eventually you see through the veil of the stupid names and actually see the car.

Craptors? What cha talking about Willis? Canadian.. Toronto Raptors, I assume. lol No...that is not "C" for Canada nor "Rap" for Raptors. It is the truly the Toronto Craptors. Worst team ever to get 56 wins in a season. Calling it.

I don't care for any of them except the one on the top. Because DAMN without the STUPID Platinum grille the CT6 is gorgeous, sexifull, tastetacular.

I think there was a huge amount of coercion in those times. If you don't make a saloon for the Fuhrer, you die in a back alley, basically. I don't think anyone is proud of that part of history.

As I tell everyone who makes that claim.... "All cars have all wheel stop.... so buy snow tires" I know SO MANY people that default to shopping for AWD and don't know sh!t about it (living in Maryland). I've literally heard people reference stopping ability. STOPPING ABILITY. When I explain that all cars already have "all wheel stop" as you put it, it's like a light bulb comes on in their head, but burns out the moment the conversation is over. It makes me feel like I need to hand out awareness fliers on the street. 90% of people with AWD are simply buying themselves a 200 lb dead weight security blanket at the cost of two grand and a couple mpg. My fiance has casually mentioned the next car she wants to buy with her family, and they all brought up AWD like a necessity. I basically used my car knowledge to end the converation, but I know I didn't change anyone's dumbass opinions. Not to mention we're moving far south after the wedding, everyone knows this, yet the first comment out of their mouths is "It has AWD, right? Why not AWD?" and I'm left coming up with the most polite way to say "Shut the everloving f@#k up." #futureinlaws Intriguing story. Much wow. Very analytical. Pulitzer nomination sent.

The only thing that the CLA has on the Cruze is the availability of leather on the dash and doors with wood trim and much better looking guages. But that's just not a good value for a car that costs close to $15,000 more than a base Cruze. A fully loaded Cruze is $29,000, more car for the money, by a LARGE margin than the woeful base CLA.

Balth that may be a nice finding, but it's never been an issue of the measured numbers, it was always a rule of thumb. Yes, the BMW AWD system takes room from the driver, but people complain more about the ATS backseat than they do the front of the 3/4 Series. But why a small sedan needs a great backseat when the next model up solves the problem anyways...I'll never understand.

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
The recent CT6 commercials are just plain weird. The low weight and driving like a much smaller car are not readily apparent, as the car is in a city environment. Mabye slow speed cornering is better, who knows. I will maintain how though get rid of the ugly Platinum grille, and you have a great looking car on the outside. All I know is that the CT6 was supposed to be a flagship car for Cadillac that made no excuses, we were expecting that after the placeholder XTS had done its job, and yes, for a brand like Cadillac it's going to take time to make it workable as a brand on its own. And now many of us can't even reconcile if the CT6 really needs to be any different, because I'm not even sure if the people buying the CT6 over the XTS really benefit from the new features outside of semi-autnomous driving aids. What Lincoln is doing is a great strategy when you're not there yet in terms of product. You take the simplest product attributes to master for a large sedan, you get brand recognition from real luxury items, which are focused and never go downmarket from other brands likes Revel audio, and then you dust off the best name every recognized by the brand. Then you put glitzy chrome outside and inside, line the interior with cowhide, and lo and behold you have a large American luxury car. It's a tried and true method, and it doesn't drain the wallet or put an immense imperative to redefine the segment. -
I would disagree, the ATS while having the needed variants, is not competitive as it could be. GM bench-marked the last true good BMW to build it, which allowed BMW to throw the curve-ball of a more livable back seat in the F30, and Mercedes with the C-Class upped the ante with the best interior in its class. But Cadillac made a "more livable" FRONT seat than the 3/4-series. Will BMW 'respond'? Will BMW up the ante WRT mercedes & the 3/4's lackluster interior? What I'm saying is that the Cadillac should be the car that Cadillac needs. It should not be a car that attempts to beat a German car, because if the German car changes - well Cadillac will have to follow again. BMW makes comfortable front thrones, they just a charge a lot for them. Yeah, the new the C-Class is ripping it up in terms of sales and probably clobbering the 3 Series a lot. BMW is in a bind right now.

The only way convertibles now work is if they pay for themselves. No more subsidized the building of a product because it'll fit nicely or whatever. I don't like how Mercedes seems to now make one of everything, but you look at how they're so gloriously expensive even after some of the incentives you can get...they seem to be corralling what is left of those markets.

GM bench-marked the last true good BMW to build it, which allowed BMW to throw the curve-ball of a more livable back seat in the F30, and Mercedes with the C-Class upped the ante with the best interior in its class. Being astronomically priced, it still is the favorite in this class. I think the Mercedes is a compelling option, though I would not get an ATS. I would get a Camaro, and pocket the extra $35k w/out getting into a comparable C-Class. I wand Cadillac to get that break-through vehicle, kinda like the Camaro against the Mustang. You know, better enough to force the hand of the other automakers, and I mean cream them into oblivion.
-
The new Cruze is more of a luxury car than the CLA ever will be. Yeah the CLA has some performance variants, which are also dispatched by the Audi A3. If GM made a Cadillac off of it, I would not be surprised, but I would be bewildered as it would be totally redundant.

Lincoln News: 2017 Lincoln Continental To Begin At $45,485

We'll see how it goes. If you want to ramble about display models, well I guess it's only fair to remind you how Johnny Lieberman at Motortrend, and I quote his exact words, "Cadillac interior designers should ALL be fired for the quality of leather used in this car." That video was taken down from their site, but I remember that's what was said of the CT6 show car. I sat in the same car, and I would disagree with him being so harsh, but that's where it comes full circle. You can't possibly please everyone. While GM goes even further down the drain to figure out why they should make expensive cars to make good money off of a platform that must have cost a fortune to develop, Ford can use this placeholder and build off of it. This Continental was never going to be anything more than a comfortable sedan with a plush interior, and epic audio. And it turns out there's a segment of the market that wants just that. -

I don't think this car needs to play up how it handles a corner...it just doesn't matter for anyone with the proper sensibilities buying a large sedan. Period. I mean even the damn CT6 commercials have the car being driven in downtown NY at 10 mph. Best way to show off the sports sedan of the class right? I think in any review, the Lincoln will kill the performance of intended function metric. I'm betting it can really do a lot, the Fusion is a damn good car, and this isn't even a simple stretch and widen job. They took the platform and did a lot of redesigning. -
How about them Craptors? Came back from 17 to win the game. Holy $h!, they're actually capable of playing a shutdown quarter. Now, if they'd only do every quarter, the Pacers would have scored only 36 points in the game.

Ya got busted on the dealership front right that there SMK.

That's the MKZ in 2012. The MKC and MKX didn't have any delay of the sort. Look, you can pat yourself on the back for snapping a pic of a car that's destined for the trash pile, just like any pre-production car made by anyone else. -
"We don't want people at our dealerships." "What do you we want, oh overlord sales manager" "We want cars to move off the lot, with people paying us to do it"

Buick News: 2016 Buick Envision to Start In the Low $40,000s
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Er... Buick brand is premium(er) than Chevy. We'll have to see how the car does. I don't like it. I think it's a piss poor value, engine'd wrong, and made in the wrong country - but if some Buick person can rationalize it, sure, why not? It's not that much of a stretch though to get into an Enclave at those price points. Which leads me to believe they'll make the next Enclave approach Escalade pricing fully loaded. Hot damn... Making MONEY!!- 40 replies
