  1. Won't the Wrangler also have a new transmission? Anyways, I guess refinement of the engine need not be an issue given the intended purpose of the vehicle.
  2. It's probably massively underrated like most engines from German makes. Obviously this is enough power for most cars. But the big thing is the proposed increase to FE. 30 percent ain't bad.
  3. That's good. Elon Musk- many people think he has a big ego - he does. But he wants other Electric cars to suceed in as so much as even supplanting Tesla, and making sure the industry changes, and moves even further forward. Yeah, electric is mired in own problems, like the carbon emissions of building batteries....but at this point we all know making any car is filthy and polluting.
  4. Ah. Well the carbon core tech has not really resulted in huge weight loss. The X5 is now a porky vehicle in its class. And a decent set of rubber makes vehicles like XT5, MKX and hell even RX pretty close in handling numbers and perhaps even feel. Well, anyways, I just posed a point which has zero value. But still. What I'm saying is that BMW is not going to change much, anytime soon. Though I would hope they make their vehicles more reliable. That's like they only path they still haven't blazed.
  5. Oh... and back to topic. No. I think Apple is a company if wanting to buy any automaker...they either want a killer deal or they want a car company they can control, and fold into their brand identity. I don't think either is possible with a car company like Tesla.
  6. What people don't realize is that whenever Tesla stocks takes a tumble, Musk buys back stock. Which means he bails out investors, and takes a hit whenever they make an equity offering. He's doing what he can to will the company to success. In fact, Tesla is the one he is most involved with. SpaceX and SolarCity are much more hands-off. They're very close to making it. Much closer than anyone else has in a long while. Yeah there are nagging problems...but I wouldn't expect anything less. Tesla is not a miracle, they may have some award winning prestige but now is when they come down to Earth and start building cars that are affordable, and most of all grown up.
  7. Totally not weird...anyways DFelt started this first, so don't look AT ME LIKE A WEIRDO....but the Arnold's "package" is bigger than both of his fists.
  8. That's the thing... you would usually expect bummer cars that are truly lame on the rental lots, but now there's all kinds of nice vehicles - if you are willing to pay for'em.
  9. Why? I just...I think the GT86 twins are like a complete fail. I mean they would be palatable, but only if they started at $20k not $25k.
  10. I am still curious as to why they would chose this platform. With the X7 being the 3-row vehicle they want, I would guess the X5 could take a size cut or no longer offer the 3rd row option.
  11. Even better. Take the best vehicle on the lot, beat on it, find out if it's a POS or not and then have a nice little review of your 900 mile trip.
  12. I think Cadillac just needs 2 coupes at any given time. I think the next coupe they have should actually be a tweener in terms of size between the ATS coupe, and what the CTS coupe could have been in this generation of car. And then the other one should be a top-line, perhaps have variants along the lines of Balth and Drew, SMK. I would think that atleast have that show-stopper in terms of style that the Elmiraj was. But they gottta make sure the moment is still there. But also, I would think of the end-game. Art and Science has done well for the past decade. What is the long term evolution? Will the fins become more pronounced, the higher in the model line you go? I would love to see slab sides, with real defined fins once more, even if it's only really possible for the top-line cars. And then the lesser vehicles would get "fin-lets"
  13. Yeah, but it's not adjusted for the growth rate. You don't base production numbers from one quarter. It gives you a distorted number for a company still expanding its production capabilities. Otherwise, what, based on Q1 2014, you'd expect them to continue to build only 25,000 cars in 2015? If you don't account for the growth rate, basically the exponential factor, it is NOT straightforward, because you get really a meaningless number. And where did I say 500k was easily possible? Of course it's gonna be hard. But they can do it, if they get the cash infusion needed to do so.
  14. Mazda 6 kinda sweeps back. So does Jaguar XJ.
  15. Rent the car, beat on it, prove whether if it's a POS or not, and then provide a review of your 900 mile adventure....
  16. Well the problem I see with what math you use Balth for the "on pace" determination is that it isn't forward looking, because you're not accounting for the growth rate. What I mean is the factor by which the production rates grow. Two years ago Tesla delivered 25,000 vehicles. The next one, 50,000. This one, perhaps 80,000 to 90,000. From there...I think it's pretty clear they're gonna need a fairly sizable infusion of cash from somewhere. Probably an equity offering. Hey, all the Tesla patents are out there. It's not like Sergio doesn't have the means to actually follow through copying Tesla and making a Model 3 much sooner. That alone would be far smarter than investing in anything Fiat.
  17. Wow...man I can just imagine the waves it will send across the world. No more taxi drivers. UBER.... we beseech thy destruction!!!
  18. I think it means do not expect the X5 to lose a TON of weight. The 7 Series did not lose a lot, but that's probably a lot of weight was put back in adding tech equipment for the available features.
  19. Man... this thread has no limit. Damn....
  20. I just think the ATS is missing that half-step, the so called "curve-ball" that BMW did with the overall vehicle inside space...And then the new C-Class, and Audi A4..... It's a great used car. I like it. The new ATS was the first car on alpha. And there were some compromises. I still think it's a fantastic. I would say go for it... But I would say be prepared to feel that the car feels really old in some areas that you deal with all the time - the interior packaging, some of the trim choices, the tech options... In a lot of ways the ATS is the CT6 of its class, except not as much lighter than the competition. It's the same size others. Probably the best handling. Won't be the cushiest, if thats what you're after. The interior is okay. The inside is more cramped.... the engines are good. But I think the N20 from BMW is better...but not as reliable perhaps. It's like buying an iPhone SE really, I think. You get great goodness baked in...but what you interact with will feel much older than it needs to be. ME....I maddeningly prefer how the pre-facelift car looked, but arguably it does not get any of the engine upgrades or the new CUE processing. I want to say I love the ATS, buy it no matter what...but I know how you think Ccap. If you want a fun car for under $40k, that is somewhat practical...maybe consider a Focus ST. You new car, new warranty....Manual transmission only, so perhaps YOU get to drive it ALL the Time.
  21. This place has always been quaint. I prefer it so. Less serious, the better.
  22. Well if they go belly-up, they go belly-up. But hopefully they built enough momentum to keep GM, Nissan and others committed to electric.
  23. We're all conveniently busy at the same time. Were it so easy.
  24. It's priced ambitiously, but then again so are any European vehicles. I'm been saying it before, a true test of brand growth is how the consumers respond to the new pricing. It shouldn't be ingrained into any American automaker that they always MUST pursue being an excellent value. Ultimately, do they make the ultimate car? Can they price it accordingly. However, I do not like this vehicle, I think it is the wrong vehicle to pursue this kind of thinking.
  25. Maybe this is the partner that will build the 200 and Dart going forward. I seriously think that the Chinese built cars might actually be assembled better because a lot of factories in China are new...can you believe it? But again...what happened to imported from Detroit? Because the Pacifica is assembled in Windsor. The LX cars are assembled in Brampton. And the 200 might be made either in Japan or China.... Weird turnaround.
