So I took the T&C, which we have lovingly dubbed "The Bus" to school today so I could taking my crappy bike and my RC plane to hang out with my friend. Too windy to fly and my bike is a piece of $h! (but I built it from parts I collected in grade school so hey), but I did finally get to vacuum it out. But I digress...
After hanging out I went back to school for my last class, and parked at the public parking lot for the riverside park. It's not ment for students but they don't ticket and no one cares Anyway, I get my camera and flash drive and get out of the van and start to walk, when a woman asks if I could help her with her car. Apparently it won't start, it needs a jump. I say "sure no problem" and she points her her car, a Honda Pilot. I get in the van and move it into position. she and the other woman with her are very nice and polite but are totally clueless how to even use the jumper cables, but a t least they have a set...the van doesn't yet. I explain to them how to connect the cables and walk them through the procedure. I hop in the van, start it up and after a minute they start the Pilot and it fires up. Now...I like helping people, especially anything car related, and to top it off I just jumped a new Honda with my old Chrysler...the irony is delicious.
She hands me a 10 dollar bill, which I hand back to her and say it's not necessary. She insists that I do, and not wanting to get into an argument about being given money, I finally accept. She told me she gave it to me because she thought I would have helped her anyway without pay (of course, no where on me or the van does it says "going rate for jumps is $10)
Anyway, just thought I'd share. It's nice to do a kind favor, but it's even better when there's irony involved and getting a bonus is just icing on the cake...which I promptly put in the van for gas.
