Spy Shots: Volkswagen Robust pick-up truck
Intrepidation replied to Intrepidation's topic in Volkswagen
Looks a lot like a reskinned Titan to me from the profile. -
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/30/spy-sho...-pick-up-truck/ Rumors of a German (or at least German-branded) pickup truck have been bouncing around longer than a Lamborghini sport-ute or Ferrari sedan, and may seem just as out of place. But the automotive paparazzi have brought the speculation back to the forefront, spying a developmental test mule of what is tipped to be a Volkswagen truck undergoing apparent cold-weather testing. The vehicle spied appears to be the mid-size quad-cab short-bed pickup rumored to wear the Robust nameplate. A variety of cab and bed configurations are likely to be part of the package when it goes into production in Argentina. An SUV derivative is also anticipated to be part of the package, slotting in the Volkswagen truck line-up between the Tiguan and Touareg in whichever markets VW winds up offering it. Well I had a great day! It was pretty uneventful until the evening, when my mom, borther, girlfriend, and best friend went out to dinner at Smokey Bones. That place is so awesome He and my girlfriend worked together to get me surprise gifts. I got bowling shoes, which is sweet because we liek to go bowling after class, and not only is it much cheaper with your own shoes they are more comfortable, but we went bowling afterwards, so I got to try them out. After we the bowling alley closed I got a 2nd surprise gift. He wanted to show me the replacement tail light he got for his lovely Corolla that was yellow and not clear. Turns out hiding in his truck was my other gift, a SuuperCub! Glee!! So yeah, it was a blast, and Monday I will take her on her maiden flight if the weather is good. We also took the Intrepid, which behaved itself perfectly, so that was nice. She's gonna get a major detailing once the repairs are done! Here's the SuperCub

Do what you can to track it down man! We had the `86 caravan stolen back in `97. I remember it like it was yesterday. My father and I were sitting on the back porch one night when the Caravan started up, lights came on and drove off. It had an alarm at the time but as luck would have it it was turned off because it was windy that night. My dad went into the kitchen and told her he watched someone drive it off. A few days later the police found it dumped on a dirt road, stripped bare, save for, ironically the stereo (they even stole the alarm). I only hope that one of the pricks had the hatch fall on them when they opened it and let go, because there weren't any struts. The insurance company tried to convince us to let them keep it, but we refused and had it brought back. We ended up going to the junkyard and getting a whole new interior for the van. It was never quite the same though, as it originally had leather seating whereas the replacement bits were cloth, and due to design changes in later models, the sliding door trim never fit quite right. The important thing was that we got it back though. Don't give up hope, try to hunt it down and get it back.

That sucks how much money you've poured into it already and these problems continue to crop up. Although I must say it makes me feel better about spending $700 on my car to have the timing chains replaced.

Thanks guys!

Damn you beat me to that suggestion! Von, dude that's some insane electrical gremlins you have, not even the Shadow had anywhere near that many problems! Just out of curiosity, how much have you had to spend thus far on these repairs? I'm gonna guess the squeaking is a belt, unless it's a lower pitched sound that seems to "rotate" if you know what I mean. The T&C has a pulley that makes some noise and it's nowhere near as loud as a worn belt.

That's really impressive!

My friend had a Dell Laptop...the screen stopped working on it. Just an ironic observation. I personally don't care for Dells in general, regardless of where they are made. -
It's be perfectly safe!

PRESS: Japanese Govt paid for Toyota Hybrid system
Intrepidation replied to regfootball's topic in Toyota
You have me there, kind of, but it's not the same as a personal insult or attack, where on purpose or not. Plus you can't argue with that most of the stuff that comes out of China is currently junk. Can't tell you how many Made in China products I've had the "pleasure" of owning have broken when they shouldn't have. Opel is a subsidiary of GM, so it belongs to an American company, but it has its own programs to cater to the European market. It's not "American" like Pontiac, but it's "American" because it's owned and operated by GM. -
When your turn signals and backup lights start to go you really have to get it fixed man. This probably won't help, because tehy are different cars, but a month or so ago I had the center stack of the Prizm out to replace something. The way it's built the Hazard and rear window defroster buttons (as well as the HVAC controls) are mounted to teh bezel not to the dash, so you have to unplug them to pull the bezel more than a couple inches away. After I was done I remounted the center stack and went to work, only to discover my turn signals didn't work at all...and neither did my hazards. On a hunch, I pulled off the bezel again and sue enough the button wasn't plugged in. When I plugged it back in everything worked fine. This may just be useless information, but maybe there's a chance something simple like a wiring harness just came loose. Otherwise I'd say bad wires that need to be replaced.

The problem is, as you and others have said, that we're just too cheap. We want the most for the least, so in order to cater to that things are outsourced and the quality goes down. I personally am willing to pay a little, or even a far chunk more, for something made in America, or wherever the quality is good, than paying less for something that will break in a few years. Most people just don't care though, we're a disposable society, we don't hang on to things, we always want a deal on the latest and greatest. If there's one valid point the Think About It Hyundai adds made is "What happened to commitment?"
