  1. It really seems like complete technical overkill, but then again; that's obviously what dives the market.
  2. Chevy / GMC GMT800s had about 4 different side mirrors depending on model/year/options. There's the standard folding mirror, the power extendable folding, a 'twin stalk' mirror, and then a thin single stalk one that is easily replacable with one with a longer stalk. Some have horizontal glass, some vertical, some GMCs have slightly diagonal glass. RE the W/T: my buddy just bought an '06 W/T: it has a black grille insert, chrome surround & the same chrome bumper as on my LS. This sort of optioning/customization is where the import trucks do not even come close and have little hope of becoming major players.
  3. Wow... and I wasn't even trying to be topical. That BS is bad enough in a stand-alone review, but in a comparo.... idiotic.
  4. The "ouch" is paying $34K for a car that could be an up-trim-level sentra.
  5. I'm complaining because his approach (at best) is ridiculously outmoded and the playing field is still on a crazy tilt. I don't remember about which vehicle a recent writer's article stated: 'a good choice if you must own a domestic' {paraphrase}- WTF is that S? Why are some writers still practicing segregation? It's BS.
  6. IMO, the car has no presence; if you told me it was $20K I'd believe it. Nothing stylistically wrong with it, but for me: meh.
  7. No diesel?? Uh-oh.
  8. Almost flukey in it's positivity. Off his meds?? >>"it may be the best car built in America, period."<< Lookie: both a compliment and a disclaimer! The positives are quantified by 'by General Motors' or 'in the U.S.'; the negatives are always compared worldwide.
  9. razor- without checking I believe you're referring to J Frank Wilson's Last Kiss. Yup: a tearjerker.

  12. Congrats! This is your first, right? You do realize that you have no earthly idea of what you've walked into, right?
  13. Not by a long shot. Unique for sure but I've never warmed to the form: far too ovaloid and too simplistic. Nice, but not necessarily engaging or aspirational. This concept is fairly far down on the lust scale for most enthusiasts, in my wanderings. The D'Elegance that sold a B-J in Jan is far more interesting. I can't remember offhand what that one went for, but I remember it being what I thought was a relative bargin. Was it $1.1M? If that awes-striking vehicle was worth $1.1M, the Diablo is a solid 6-figure car. $650,000 is my appraisal.

    Hang tough, brother.
  15. Of course C&D preferred the M-B in many areas; they drive one at least every 8 weeks!!
  16. Wow- she's looking quite nice there. Where's my ping-pong paddle?
  17. Car was sent to the infamous Warhoops junkyard in MI where GM sent many of it's 'decomissioned' concepts, with express orders for it to be crushed. Junkyard owner has always recognized the historic (and/or perhaps the monetary??) value and saved a great number of them, but he did cut some apart in order to -assumedly- save future contract work from GM. The Biscayne was cut into 8 major pieces and scattered around the yard to 'hide' it. Bought circa '90 by concept car czar Joe Bortz of IL, I've only seen resto tidbits in the last year or so; it must've been in storage for a number of years after '90. Both Bortz and that Warhoops owner(?) should be awarded the Congressional Automotive Medal of Honor.

Interesting: I quit the 'boards' 6 years ago too, tho my board was a drafting table(/computer screen). Since then I've also done everything from (steadily more primary) excavation to demo, grading, trenching, pouring concrete, stonework, framing, drywall, finish work (trim, cabinet building/installation), electrical, plumbing, roofing, windows & doors, welding & steel fabrication and a good dozen other areas.
  19. Really, the only thing stylisticaly questionable on the Biscayne is the location/treatment of the headlights. Conceal them ala the '66 Toro and you have something. The rest is pretty slick, esp the 'reverse Corvette cove' that wraps around into the rear fascia.
  20. razor- "? - are you saying 15" truck tires are becoming hard to come by ?" ocn- "Yup... 15 inchers are going the way of the covered wagon, I'm afraid, especially in the odd, 6 lug bolt circle of the GMT355." ocn's talking rims, not tires.
  21. Yeah; the 327/TH400 combo does sound weird, but the TH350 didn't appear until '68 (in the intermediates at least), so if it's a 3-spd auto, it likely is a TH400. Unless the TH350 came out in '67 in the big cars (doubt it & too tired to get up and look for the info). $11K American sounds like a good price for it if there's not a lot of rust repair and it's a factory SS. Hard to say much more without an in-person inspection. But a big block would be worth a good 50% more.

Yes, ocn: where are you seeing all these videos/pics? First you mention parasitic twin video and now pics of the super dwarf. Better source than Google?
  23. That's all well and good, but catagorically the car is still a Pontiac Trans Am as opposed to something else. A base 6-cyl Firebird has as many differences between it and a T/A as a T/A and a TTA, doesn't it? Wasn't the opening question 'what model or nameplate lasted only 1 year' or something very similar? I agree that the TTA is MORESO a (powertrain)/trim package on a multi-year, same-basic-model car than a unique model in & of itself.
  24. '55 Biscayne. Family sports sedan. Currently undergoing restoration.

Well said & true, razor. BTW- what sort of construction are you doing? In a perfect world, I would not work at anything but my hobbies, art & house. It would not be going to 'work', but going to 'create'.
