GM delays decision on Opel future
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
Something is up. They are stalling or something. There is so much at stake. I feel GM is going to shock everyone with the out come. -
Happy Birthday! I hope it turns out to be the best day ever!

Do not give up. I felt the same way you did about my first Toronado. It got totaled and I got back what I paid for it from the insurance company. I then sold the second Toronado to someone in the neighborhood. I learned the car through those two experiences. I simply waited the third time for the right one. I found it on Ebay. I had to do some mechanical things to put it back in factory shape. The parts have been easy to find. He is right about Ebay. I also found parts on Everdrive.com I bought the cluster and radios from them. I use them, and rock auto.com and Ebay too. I learned do not be consumed by emotion for a car you want. Look for what you want, but do the right thing in getting that car. Do not give up or quit. Also, there are companies that fix gauges too. I used these people for speedometer repair: http://www.dnaspeedometers.com/ What happened was I sent my cluster to this company in Virginia and they took( stole it). I then bought another cluster from everdrive.com I then had the company above set the mileage legally on the new cluster to reflect my cars actual mileage. I have to buy a radio from Everdrive next month for the Toronado. The stereo works, but the tape player does not work. I have bought excellent factory GM stereos from them.

Pontiac G8 to be Sold in Australia
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
Wow... the feelings run deep here just as they did with Oldsmobile. I am reading thinking man.... I thought what I said in my post about this was harsh, but I was trying to be funny. I have been topped by them all here. A lot of people are now being placed in the position Oldsmobile people have been in since 2004. When you brand or a car you likes goes, what do you do when what is being offered does not appeal to you or meet your needs? People have voted. They left GM or kept their current car or bought an older car from the defunct brands. -
Happy birthday to you sir.. I hope it is indeed the best.

ABC News interviews Brenda Priddy

I watched that. It was quite good. I did not know she was that involved. It makes you appreciate her work. I know car companies do not like her. The plates on her Subaru wagon are funny. -
Pontiac G8 to be Sold in Australia
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
Excuse me while I get ethnic for a minute: Ain't that a b*******! That is something. American GM fans get f******ed over one more time for the umpteeth time. Is there some reason GM North America could not have sold these cars here as final Pontiacs? And This deserves a "Sue Simmons" moment for GM. This one hurts. The wound goes deep. I know you need to get rid of Pontiac parts, but I ask you..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGESbqXLPEA...feature=related -

Happy Birthday to Ninety-Eight Regency
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Blake Noble's topic in The Lounge
Thank you so much. The well wishes are very much appreciated. -
Where? I have been looking for something not breaded in wheat flour. I remember Mrs. Pauls and Van De Camps. Mrs. Pauls used to taste quite good.

GM Design: Oldsmobile in the 1980s
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Blake Noble's topic in Heritage Marques
I saw it. You are loving that aren't you? LOL! I kept looking at the Achieva and saying it was a pint sized Ninety Eight. Did you see this? Achieva Upper The Achieva was built off of the same platform as the Buick Skylark and the Pontiac Grand Am. But the Achieva lost the upper wars, so the coupe has the Grand Am upper, and the sedan had the Buick upper. The sedan looks especially bad with the Buick roof. See.... this is why GM is in the position it is in now. This is the kind of compromises that cost them. -
GM Design: Oldsmobile in the 1980s
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Blake Noble's topic in Heritage Marques
Thank you ! Thank you! I really enjoyed that. I liked those Ninety Eights and Eighty Eights. I liked them all actually. Some of them would have really been successful designs for Oldsmobile. Those Ninety Eight drawings would work in todays market. I see how my two cars were influenced by those designs. If only.... -
What's the Worst Car Everyone Bought?
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Blake Noble's topic in The Lounge
The worst cars I bought were my first Ninety Eight Regency and my first Toronado. -
Bring Oldsmobile and Pontiac back as the brands that would fill the gaps in the GM lineup. Oldsmobile would be large and midsized speciality high tech/engineered cars and Pontiac would be performance cars. The Oldsmobiles would be sold through Cadillac and Chevrolet dealers. The Pontiacs in the Buick and GMC showrooms. Oldsmobile would have: Ninety Eight and Toronado and Cutlass. All the Oldsmobiles would offer bench and bucket seats. They would have futuristic "American" styling with innovative interiors and features. They would be the GM brand with cars with bench seats. Pontiac would have: Bonneville and Grand Prix and Firebird. All the Pontiacs would be rear drive. Think 1960's and 1970's and early 1980's Pontiac with new technology and styling that screams performance. These brands would use the GM parts already being used on GM cars now. To make them cost effective, parts would be shared with Holden for Pontiac and Oldsmobile would share parts with other GM cars globally. It would be the things you cannot see. Holden and Pontiac and Oldsmobile would work closely together, but produce different types of cars cosmetically inside and out. These products would not overlap because Buick would not have anything larger than LaCrosse and Buick is aimed at entry level luxury and imports. Chevrolet is aimed at the heart of the buying market. They would not compete with Pontiac because where Chevrolet would top out in performance cars is where Pontiac would start. These two brands would not get any other vehicles. If the market takes off for wagons, Pontiac and Oldsmobile would share a wagon with Holden that would look different for each brand. Being GM said they can be flexible with front wheel drive, Oldsmobiles version would be front wheel drive and called Custom Cruiser and Pontiac's would be called Safari. Other dream: To see Holden sold in the United States either as Holden or as Oldsmobile with some modifications and changes. Other dream: Have a long conversation with Fritz Henderson and Bob Lutz and Ed Welburn about GM.

The thing to have a coupe like this is to have the buyers and the market. There must be a need for the vehicle. I own a personal luxury coupe. I enjoy it too. It is nice to switch up from a sedan and be able to drive a coupe. It handles better than my sedan I own too. It is stylish. The import car makers have coupes in the market. The Americans do not. They are focused on survival and making products that sell and bring in volume. Coupes are low volume cars. They just do not dominate the market like they once did. The Europeans have been doing 4 door coupes. Maybe GM can do something like that at Cadillac or Buick.

Few Tears for Pontiac at the Pontiac Nationals
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to hyperv6's topic in Heritage Marques
Wow... Interesting reading. Oldsmobile reacted differently, but we are different now because when it happened to Pontiac, it was not shock to us. They did not get the same send off we got. Buick better watch its back... -
It was interesting looking at those Oldsmobiles. The Toronados were quite nice.

Sweden investigates possible Saab investor pullout (Reuters)
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Croc's topic in General Motors
Pay attention. He said it. Okay the whole Opel deal has not been resolved. The SAAB deal is about to fall through. I knew GM was not going to walk away from their brands. See, the elections are about to happen in Germany in September. They are trying to ride this out. They have the bankruptcy card ready for Europe too. I know what GM's goal is.. they want to hold on to Opel and Vauxhall and other brands. They have basically got rid of the overhead and things that were dragging them down. They want someone to float them and do the dirty work until GM can take it back in full. That is what they were doing with SAAB. They wanted someone to float SAAB until they got back on their feet. RJH if they win Opel was going to sell it back to GM. Magna and the Russians had other plans. The only brands that will still be dead or sold off is Saturn, Hummer, Pontiac and Oldsmobile. I checked on something recently. GM still holds the rights and license to Oldsmobile. They will not sell Pontiac even though someone offered. If you are so bad off, you would think you will sell anything and everything to raise cash. The thing is you can make Pontiac and Oldsmobile go away for a while and reintroduce them at a later date when your other brands are fixed. They know Buick is damaged in the United States. They always say now "We are watching our brands closely". That translates into we are going to relaunch Buick in the United States. It is going to take at least five years to make Buick relevant to buyers into days market. So far the Enclave has been a hit. The 2010 LaCrosse has been getting excellent reviews. It has to translate into sales. Chevrolet is an easy fix because they have new product. Cadillac lost the momentum had gained in 2003. It too has product coming and ready and has to get that momentum back. GMC sells just because. Buick is the problem in North America. It would be quite easy to integrate SAAB back into GM Europe or sell them in small numbers through Cadillac dealers. If the Buick fix does not work, SAAB could push that kind of product. GM I bet has all sorts of back up plans. -
RHJ Will Sweeten Bid for GM's European Unit
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Z-06's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
Some how, GM is not going to give Opel/Vauxhall away. Some how they will get ownership back or somehow keep it with or without the Germans help. This call comes to how you play the game an politics. -
Those are some great photographs. That is so sad too.
-
Congrats to you NOS. I am sure you will enjoy your new purchase. You are taking a situation and making it work for you. So you gave up on waiting for the Chevrolet Aveo SS. That is funny.

Friend of mine was in a 4 car pileup.
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in The Lounge
I am glad your friend is okay. That is so sad. He came out just fine. There is a problem with some streets all over this country. That Trailblazer did its job. I would find a Oldsmobile Bravada from the same era. -
Time to start trolling the lots for...
NINETY EIGHT REGENCY replied to toesuf94's topic in The Lounge
This is sad sad.. I still have this odd feeling a lot of these people will regret this decision. I just cannot see giving up interior room, luxury features and more for something compact, has less features. The only trade off is better gas mileage if that. That Cadillac was spray painted. That was worse than that Aurora video that was killed. They said today they still may run out of money and this program may be stopped. I am still on this Collectors Edition Roadmaster. Do you realize what someone could have done with that car? I think these people are caught up with the idea of "getting a new car".
