  1. Congrats on your 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. I liked the photos of the Buick Riviera and the Cadillac Deville. That Riviera would be great with a little work. You did the program for the right reason. Congrats to you.
  2. Engine Disablement Procedures for the CARS Program THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT TO BE USED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER Perform the following procedure to disable the vehicle engine. 1. Obtain solution of 40% sodium silicate/60% water. (The Sodium Silicate (SiO2/Na2O) must have a weight ratio of 3.0 or greater.) 2. Drain engine oil for environmentally appropriate disposal. 3. Install the oil drain plug. 4. Since the procedure is intended to render the engine inoperative, drive or move the vehicle to the desired area for disablement. 5. Pour enough solution in the engine through the oil fill for the oil pump to circulate the solution throughout the engine. Start by adding 2 quarts of the solution, which should be sufficient in most cases. CAUTION: Wear goggles and gloves. Appropriate protective clothing should be worn to prevent silicate solution from coming into contact with the skin. 6. Replace the oil fill cap. 7. Start the engine. 8. Run engine at approximately 2000 rpm (for safety reasons do not operate at high rpm) until the engine stops. (Typically the engine will operate for 3 to 7 minutes. As the solution starts to affect engine operation, the operator will have to apply more throttle to keep the engine at 2000 rpm.) 9. Allow the engine to cool for at least 1 hour. 10. With the battery at full charge or with auxiliary power to provide the power of a fully charged battery, attempt to start the engine. 11. If the engine will not operate at idle, the procedure is complete. 12. If the engine will operate at idle, repeat steps 7 through 11 until the engine will no longer idle. 13. Attach a label to the engine that legibly states the following: This engine is from a vehicle that is part of the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). It has significant internal damage caused by operating the engine with a sodium silicate solution (liquid glass) instead of oil. The sad thing was watching that 1992 Cadillac Deville die on the local news. The woman said it was a boat and it guzzled gas. That car was not a boat. She traded it in for a Hyundai Santa Fe suv? What is wrong with that picture?
  3. Volvo S80 being destroyed: That Volvo fought hard. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 being destroyed: Sad...... That was quick.
  4. There are those cars they made only a few copies of that will be destroyed. For example I know they did not make that many 1990-1992 Oldsmobile Toronados. That is one less car that could still be used. That Aurora in that video may not be rare, but that car with a little work would still be drivable daily.
  5. That is so sad watching that. There are some cars that truly need to be off the road because of their condition. There are cars like these two which do not deserve this fate. I have this odd feeling some will regret this decision later. You are now making payments again and more.
  6. Oh okay... I am sorry.. I do not know who he is then. What is PCS's name? I am still thinking about the other things I said too. I still say something long term and bigger is going on. They are rebuilding this company.
  7. Welcome to the new GM PCS. I had this odd feeling you were coming back reading some of the threads a week or so ago. I guess your name is Eric Stevens? I never knew your real name. You told me to contact you, but I did not know how. I still do not. I read all those changes. That was more than last week. These people are not playing. They are really trying to reshape the company. I hope they change the way they do business. This is big news indeed. Also, I noticed a lot of these people are GM Europe. There is something going on. Most of the GM North America people are being "retired". I guess they ran the business different at GM Europe than they did here. We of course know how it was run here and what it costs us. This has been in the making. I still say they are not going to just walk away and give up on Opel and Vauxhall. I know GM wants it back totally. I was reading something else today and I asked myself why doesn't GM just have Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick Pontiac Oldsmobile GMC as one group? The Pontiac and Olds and Buick aspect would not have full lines. I know this is not possible, but the thought came to me. Pontiac would have its true few performance cars, and Buick would cater to entry level luxury owners and Oldsmobile to American traditionalists. One dealer, one stop shopping. I guess the remaining brands have to be fixed and repaired. These guys have a lot of work ahead.
  8. That was funny! I guess it is safe to assume you are not a fan of rebadging either? What is the latest on the Cheers and Gears G8 ? Lol!
  9. And when will Bob Lutz show up and tell us it is crap and Fritz comes in to make big changes? Just kidding with you and going along with the joke.....
  10. This is so sad. It was reading this thread. When you think of some of the cars being destroyed, it puts things in perspective. It seems people who love cars are becoming an endangered species. You cannot get brochures any longer from dealers or online. Cars that suited your needs do not really exist anymore. Most cars are mid-sized and look and drive like each other. What has happened to the love affair with the car? Everything coming is small or compact and is not roomy. I guess this is the price paid for progress... This is the list of cars that qualify and do not qualify: http://jalopnik.com/5324978/full-list-of-d...lunkers-refresh
  11. I do not know what has happened since I was last here, but I see a lot has changed. Looking at what I see so, you do not need luck. I hope for the best for this site under new ownership. When I was asked to come back, I did not know all the things were taking place. You cannot do anything but move upward and forward.
  12. I was trying my best to save the yellow one. I sold it to this guy in the neighborhood. His mother saw it, and they came by to look at the car. They drove it. They came back the next day bought the car. I sold it at a loss. He fixed whatever was wrong with the car and I have seen it since several times. I had to get my name cleared off the vehicle history with the state. The city did not know it, and I had to submit records and proof I did clear my name and I sold the car. I got the current one in September 2007. It is from Maine. I had to replace many of the rusted out parts. The car is solid so far.
  13. I liked looking at those Oldsmobile signs. I remember them so well. I know the Oldsmobile signs got updated when GM changed.
  14. The two cars I own: 1992 Oldsmobile Toronado: 1995 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight:
  15. I am in total agreement. I noticed how big it looks from the side. That is at least 195-196 inches. The midsection is where most of the length is on that vehicle.
  16. Might want to consider one for your purchase. :AH-HA_wink:
  17. You are correct sir. Since GMC and Pontiac and Buick are in the same dealerships, and a apart of the same marketing team, it makes sense. Hmm.... I wonder what you are referring to???
  18. These photos are of my Oldsmobile Toronado and my friend's Oldsmobile Aurora in the U of H parking lot. She bought this car over a year ago. I talked her into buying the car. She had has a good experience so far. She has driven it across the country several times too.
  19. I a really sorry to see that. That is really sad to see that car has come to that. You have my sympathies. It hurts when you sell something to someone and they beat it up like that. I saw my former Toronado recently, and it looked better than it did when I had it. He was able to invest into the car I assume. I just feel for you. It is sad. I really do. I take of my cars because I like them, plus do not make them any longer.
  20. I am so sorry. I really am. I hope you can get past this safely and go forward with what you need to do in your life. It hurts I know. I do understand your pain. I know that you do not need or want this, but will pass. Please let us know how you get through this time period.
  21. You are correct sir. I did forget that.
  22. That was funny. That really was.. That trim had bucket seats too. It was close to a base Regal LS. When Oldsmobile passed on, its parts were willed out to other GM vehicles: Grand Am lower body doors switched to the Alero ones Century got the Intrigue wheels Rainier got The Bravada parts as well as SAAB 9-7x Bonneville got the Aurora seats and a V8. GM wanted to filled the void left by Aurora 4.0 with the Bonneville GXP When the 98 passed on in 1996, the Eighty Eight got the seats and the wheels, the grille and other features. They put them on the Eighty Eight and called it Regency for 1997 to 1998. It was equal to the 1984-1985 Delta 88 Royale Brougham LS. This did not go over well on customers.
  23. Happy birthday to you sir..
