Nissan News: Nissan Says A V6 is Coming for Titan, Hints Return of XTerra
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Nissan
The Jeep Wrangler continues to offer a manual transmission. I rest my case. -
Yes I had a mini-rant against my Compass a while back, posted in Random Thoughts, but now I'm back in favor of it. It is a real nice size, and I have had no real concrete issues with it so far, with 13.6k miles on the clock. Winter gas does suck, but that is gas, not vehicle at fault. My right rear tire has something stuck in it, requiring air a couple times a week in frigid temps (after my service department patched it unsuccessfully) and I have a slight interior trim creak somewhere on the passenger side. But it starts and runs and I have had no tangible hint of the electrical woes so many report with the Jeepiats (save for an intermittent bluetooth fart). As far as power goes, I drive it like I drove my Fiesta: keep it in a lower gear than I would be used to in a V6, let it rev, and don't shift into 6th until I hit 55 mph. If it stays, and that prospect seems more likely now, there could be a set of Yokohama Geolander A/T tires in its future, stock size.

One saving grace: rumor has it you can get a stick. Which is good, as CVTs continue to suck and slurp all over donkey balls.

traditions What are your New Year's Eve and New Year's Day Traditions?
ocnblu replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
Roast pork with sauerkraut, my maw adds chicken thighs and sliced apples to soften the taste of the kraut, all in one big roasting pot. She sticks it in the oven early in the morning on low heat and by the time we eat, everything falls apart beautifully. Mashed potatoes on the side. One old tradition that seems to have faded is that if a male is the first person to enter a home/visit on New Year's Day, it will be blessed with good luck. -

Nissan News: Nissan Says A V6 is Coming for Titan, Hints Return of XTerra
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Nissan
The brightest nugget in this is the probable return of the Xterra. If they don't mess with the formula, keep it based on the next-gen Frontier and offer it with the V6 and a stick, it will be a winner. Which is a rare feat at Datsun these days. -

GM News: GM Could Make a Full-Scale Return to Europe
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
On the "Chevy Life" (IIRC) page on FB, which focuses on Chevy's tinier vehicles, every thread has multiple comments in broken English, begging for Chevrolet to return to wherever they pulled out of. -

Thanks dfelt. I think it will suit her well. Decently equipped while not going overboard on features she'll never use. Plus it is a safer vehicle than her Versa Note. I tried to help her get into a Hyundai, but the lease terms just were not as favorable, even with my employee discount. As far as the dealerships we shopped, the local Chevy dealer is advertising the Trax for 20% off MSRP, so she got herself excited about a base LS FWD Trax. She went in to talk to them about possibly leasing one, but there was no program available. The saleskid tried to put her in a '17 Cruze LS, which would have had to have been DX'd in. Then where I work, the sales manager put together 3 scenarios, all 2018 model year... Elantra SE (base) for $3k down and $158/mo on a 10k/yr lease 36 munts. Elantra Value Edition (a lot of features for the price... possibly too many features for a 73-year old lady) for $3300 down and the same payment. Also a Mazda 3 Sport (base) hatch and Elantra GT, which both required over $4k down to get to her required payment. Then I went to Kia's website and saw what seemed like the perfect deal: $2600 down and $139/munt for 36 munts, 10k/year. So that is the deal she got. She was upside down (negative equity) by about $1600 on the Versa, so she was stuck unable to trade it in, and the amount of money required down to transfer it to a purchase contract would have been prohibitive to keep her payments in her required range, over $4k per the Nissan dealer. She really liked her 2012 Soul, but again, the lease terms stunk on those. So, Kia it is.

I am totally afraid the GMC Sierra will have boomerang lights and that would be a travesty. -

VW did a brilliant job making the Passat feel spacious. It is much better than some other cars in its competitive set, which feel like Hitler's bunker, with intrusive consoles, high beltlines and tiny windows. It gives one a feeling of being able to garage 4 entire C-class Mercedes inside it with no touching.

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Unveils the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado
ocnblu replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Ewwww For those who weren't alive then, compare this to the new 2019 and you will see what Chevrolet did there. Clear lineage, strong and good. -
House built in 1986. Width-wise, I would have about 3 inches on either side to squeeze it in, according to Ford's specs with mirrors in normal position. Height-wise though, I measured to the steel beam and I would have about 2.5", but the motor hangs down about 4" below that. I actually measured on a bit of a slant though because the Jeep was nestled. I will measure again with the Jeep out.

The 2018 F-150 XL regular cab 4X4 is 76.9 inches tall. It would hit my garage door opener motor. Width-wise it would be tight, but doable. My '07 GMC Sierra regular cab 2WD fit, barely, and I had 2" lowering shackles on the rear to level it. Dream dashed?
