Hyundai News:Hyundai Spills the Beans on 2018 Accent for U.S.
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
Although our service department technician who does most of our Hyundai engine replacements hurt his wrist trying to accomplish that very task... it is so sickening to hear these cars banging away when they drive them into the shop. So now the line is backing up a bit. -
Tesla Model 3 Lacks FM Radio and Bluetooth Streaming

What are you on abote? Those things are not the car's fault... Tesla's problems are their own. And I have not yet driven a Bolt, so I am reporting on Motor Trend's longterm impressions of their Car Of The Year.- 21 replies

Hyundai News:Hyundai Spills the Beans on 2018 Accent for U.S.

Yeahbut... Canada gets the new Accent in a hatch, so it is not like a big expense to bring it here. The Kona is pretty wild. Maybe that will be my next ride... we sell Hyundai... but I am not a DCT adherent (they're too jerky for me), and I'd want the turbo motor. -
Thanks Drewbert! As for oldshurst442, darlin', you spend way too much time with your capslock and your exclamation point key. Fix it.

Your delicate sensibility, re: crying about the '74 Matador coupe is duly noted and will be held in mind for future interactions. It will, however, be vehemently denied by me and others who find it refreshingly different from other midsize 1974 coupes. The problem with this thread remains, however. An apostrophe denotes a possessive. Unless the "auto's" (sic) are in possession of something, it should read "AUTOS" as in plural.

Industry News: California Mulls Ban On Combustion Engines
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Hmm... now I get it. You enjoy pain. So I will deny you the pain of a downvote from now on. But wait... you might like the pain of not receiving your deserved downvote and that would defeat the whole purpose, for me, which is to please your twisted need for pain. So now I am completely frozen in place, not knowing which way to turn. SEE WHAT YOU DO TO ME?- 80 replies

Tesla Model 3 Lacks FM Radio and Bluetooth Streaming

I'm over here laughing. This is all so hilariously funny to me. Rinkydink bullshyte. BOLT RULES if one is of an electrical bent. Although Motor Trend is having some issues with their long term Bolt too... lack of power steering that requires a reboot (ignition cycle) to restore, blank center screen, chintzy seats (MUST ADD LIGHTNESS! etc. )- 21 replies

Hyundai News:Hyundai Spills the Beans on 2018 Accent for U.S.

Yuge mistake dropping the hatch. But... Hyundai is not alone in forcing people out of low-priced hatchbacks and into miniature CUVs - Mazda already did it with the Mazda 2/CX-3, Ford is doing it with the Fiesta/Ecosport, and there are rumors GM will drop the Sonic. Here's a photo of what Hyundai will try to steer their budget hatchback buyers toward... the Kona. From a $15k Accent hatchback to what will probably be a $20k Kona to start... I know people will likely be forced into a used car because of these actions. -
Sometimes fuel mileage has to be a secondary concern. I'd go with another Liberty. Your family already knows its attributes. It's one of those simple, uncomplicated machines that run forever with proper maintenance. Don't you want your son in something like that? A Trax/Encore would also be a decent choice if he feels comfortable in the driver's seat at his height and doesn't haul a lot of detritus on a regular basis. I took a chance on a very early build 2017 Jeep Compass, which I factory ordered. I am not a Consumer Reports "believer", but I heard stories about the "Fiat Jeeps" from other sources. I recently passed the 5 month point of ownership. I have 8900+ miles on the clock so far. I wanted a vehicle that my employer sells. I love driving a manual transmission, and I feel more piece of mind in a 4X4... so a Renegade or new Compass was the only game in town. Renegade with manual only comes in the 1.4L turbo. My Compass has the 2.4L "Tigershark" 4 coupled with the 6 speed manual. My impressions, good and bad at this point: I am very impressed with the fuel mileage I'm getting. Between 31-32, with highway tanks up around 33 +. I find the seat more comfortable than my previous Chevy Colorado. It feels like a wider seat, and I can sit squarely in it, where the Colorado seat had me sideways with constant pressure on my left thigh. The Compass has a nice amount of cargo room for what I need, and it has a decent ride and handling setup. I like the simple, intuitive center screen layout. Lastly, I like the "baby Grand Cherokee" style and the green color. As far as bad points: more than half the time, the bluetooth drops calls. I have keyless entry and start, which works fine all the time so far for the doors, except for the liftgate. Sometimes, with the key fob in my pocket as required, it will not open unless I hit the unlock button... most times it's ok though. And a couple of other issues that are only preferences, not actual problems... the engine cooling fan is very loud and moany. And there is a clacking sound in the driveline that can only be heard at extremely low speeds, as when pulling into a parking spot in a parking lot. At the time of my first oil change, I brought up these last two concerns to my service guy, but he insists they are both normal per Chrysler. Since then, they've faded from my consciousness and I'm just driving the thing. Also it is a little slow, but I can still wring a bit of fun out of it with the stickshift... 180 hp and 177 ft/lbs torque, I believe, with my version of this engine. The brakes are also really touchy. I don't know how soon from new other people are having the more debilitating electrical woes they describe with these new Jeeps, but so far my complaints are minor... except for the bluetooth thing, that gets on my nerves. I am also with you on the anti-Japanese thing. How they handle their home market, in a closed manner, while taking full advantage of our openness here in the U.S., rubs me the wrong way. Reason enough for me to refrain from purchasing a Japanese branded vehicle. Plus Subarus with their thirst for oil, etc., nah.

Yeahbut... if there is an accident on the highway and I'm stuck in traffic for an hour or two, or if there is construction and a detour is in effect, plus depending on the weather, etc. etc. Those questions remain open. The world is not perfect, and right now, electrics make sense only in a perfect world.

I've been waiting to hear more about these in U.S. fitment for my mom, her lease is over on her '15 Versa Note in February. Her very favorite car is the Kia Soul, but I am not sure she can swing a new one, even a base Soul with automatic is over $17k now. I work in the bodyshop business, I am not as savvy on auto finance. I am not sure if it would be advantageous for her to keep her Versa and roll it over into a loan to purchase (with help from me financially), turn it in at Nissan and lease another Versa Note (in which case at age 73 she would lock herself further into leasing, which I am not sure I support) or turn it in at another dealer and lease something else. At this point, I guess she'll have to follow the deal and take what she can get for the lowest price. She has a 10k/yr 37 mo lease on the Versa Note and she only has 9k miles on it as of now, so there will be no problem with mileage overages with regards to residual value.

I like the Bolt and I don't see anything wrong with it except for its impracticality, same as every other electric. But if I'm going to limit myself to putzing around close to home, I'd rather spend $37k to do it than $70k. Plus it has the power of the Chevrolet brand behind it. That is a longterm advantage.

Imagine the number of pre-orders for the Model 3 if a $50k price had been announced. LOL bunch of dopes riding on unicorns looking for a pot-o-gold at the base of the rainbow. Elon Musk is a shyster now and always.

Balthy I think that is a Volt interior, not a Bolt. And yes, the Model S is showing a gratifying drop in sales year over year.

Genesis News: Hyundai Exec Says Luxury Brands Focus Way Too Much On Tech
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
I've said this for many a yerr: luxury cars should be effortless to operate. They should be serene in nature... so many of these gadgets are too complicated and therefore will go unused. The whole point of luxury, to me, is to coddle the owner, not addle him. -

Electrification of the automobile is but one more step toward absolutely boring homogenization across the market. There will be even less to differentiate the brands if they all operate the same. A sad, sad fact that electrification is the end of the automobile... if it is allowed to take over. It's like NASCAR, with the common body templates, and nothing but stickers to half-assedly identify the participating brands. And Tesla proudly builds a purposely faceless vehicle, with the Model 3 being the creepiest conveyance out there. It SUCKS!
