GM News: GM's Upcoming Electric Onslaught
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
GM won't be dependent on a proprietary charging network, though? I assume they are building product to use the standard charging stations..- 282 replies

Really cool...I do like airports and aircraft in terms of the infrastructure and operational aspects...

It depends on the individual use case...I wouldn't want a truck for hauling stuff that I haul maybe a dozen or so times a year. And anything large I'll get delivered. In my adventures in suburbia, my SUV is fine for my needs.

It is going to be interesting the next few years to watch the new GM EVs and see how they are received in the market and how they sell...- 282 replies

Well, since it is BOF, it has truck DNA.. definitely not a CUV. People still refer to truck-based SUVs like Tahoes, etc as trucks. Yes, and those bags often leak. But I have a Weathertech mat and a liner in the back of my Jeep. I haul many bags of molch, grass seed, pottering soil, small trees, shrubs, etc during planting season.

The Bronco is looking good. https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a31399894/2021-ford-bronco-spy-shots-leaked/?utm_medium=social-media&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=socialflowR%26T&fbclid=IwAR3iaYg9EnR9brW7RBWQyznLI1BCCQeuh831WAFkDUjWOCbj4H3deyrzTIw

Subaru tried the Baja a decade ago or so, didn't last long. On target for this discussion about mini pickups Jalopnik did an article today on the Chevy Montana in Brazil...based on an old Opel Corsa. https://jalopnik.com/heres-the-12-000-chevy-pickup-truck-we-dont-get-in-ame-1842244435

GM could do an EV pickup version of the Bolt.

Yeah, similar size. The Brazilian Fiesta-based Courier that was built through 2013 had dimensions of 2,830 mm (111.4 in) wheelbase, 4,457 mm (175.5 in) length, 1,793 mm (70.6 in) width and 1,477 mm (58.1 in) height. It will be interesting to see what comes of this, I can't imagine a unibody regular cab integral bed FWD/AWD pickup for the US market, but who knows... just seems too basic and minimalist.
-
Smaller, I think...kind of a replacement for the Fiesta-based Courier that was sold in various markets in South America. I think the new one is going to be something FWD/AWD/unibody based off the Escape.

Yes, they both look good from the pics so far...

GM News: GM's Upcoming Electric Onslaught

Since the names from the past would mostly just appeal to an older audience that won’t be interested in EVs, they should avoid any retro or heritage image with the EVs. They really have to focus on the future. I can't really see GM's legacy customer base going for new EVs, these are going to have to appeal to new buyers that are seeking EVs..- 282 replies

WOW...never knew GMC had cars other than the Sprint/Caballero utes. I wonder what it was...a Chevy with a different grille?

Graham is about the only 30s brand with a G name I can think of, but it is pretty obscure.

Does he still have the car? Sharp Chevelle.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
What I took from the article is the Mach E body appears to a normally manufactured car body like any other from Ford, unlike Tesla which is a bunch of aluminum sloppily glued together. The Millenial twit that wrote the article seems to be a Tesla fanboi and biased against real automakers. -

Probably expecting the 'rents to buy one for them. -
I don't get much in the way of allergies, Spring here is usually rainy...gets nice by late May and early June usually. No heat to speak of until late June when it might get in the 70s.

Spring is coming... and DST is coming. 50, blue skies and sunny this afternoon...I'm optimistic about spring...already thinking about my yard and plantings. May have new neighbors soon (the houses on both sides of me are for sale).

Maybe the Camaro will be reborn as a performance EV coupe and convertible...and Cadillac will get a plaid-mode EV-series performance sedan to take on the Model S. I know GM is fixated on CUVs, SUVs and trucks, but with this shift to EVs they need variety... -

I don't do buses, but I do like trains and light rail...but none of the rail around here is in my suburb or convenient enough to use...so to go places around the metro area I drive myself in my SUV or I Uber it.. Now when I lived in Denver back in the oughts, I used the light rail all the time because I lived in walking distance of a train station out in the burbs.
