  1. Yeah, Toyota is the 'no-brainer' choice for many mainstream consumers. I've worked with people that have only bought Toyota for decades. My cousin Mike has only bought Toyotas the last 20+ years (but he worked for them for 20 years after retiring from the Navy, so he got discounts). And it's generational, his 3 adult children drive Toyotas, and their adult children drive Toyotas... Kind of like how in olden days there were Ford-only families or Chevy-only families. Toyota's most off-road capable SUVs (4Runner and Land Cruiser) are so old now and in need of an update..
  2. A '99 Buick will work just a well, and there are probably more dead ones than '59s around.. There is a scruffy house in a small town along Lake Erie I drive through often that has a weedy side yard full of dead 2 seat GM products..will have to take a pic next time I'm through there. Last fall I saw 2 Allantes, a C4, a Reatta, and a couple Fieros there. Wonder if they have added an XLR since then.
  3. The dead house w dead cars reminds me of many places I’ve seen in the Upper Ohio Valley when I’ve driven down Rt 7 along the Ohio River around Steubenville and Wheeling.
  4. A friend said it looked like an evil fish.
  5. That's a bleak view...It's good to see some companies keeping up the fight, though...fighting against the dying of the light... a market with only CUVs and trucks would be pretty boring. The regular Sonata of that generation had a decent front end, it was the Hybrid that was horrific, IMO:
  6. At least Hyundai and Kia are still making sedans, unlike GM... I like the rear, esp. the taillights...front is interesting...
  7. The Trax has sat out this week and got covered by snow, but I have to drive it tomorrow (my sister has an appointment w/ an orthopedic surgeon and with her broken foot can't easily get in/out of my Jeep--too high). I'm going to get her Cadillac out this week and take to the shop, it has a small coolant leak somewhere. If she is cleared to fly, she has to fly back to Florida for work in a couple weeks, she's thinking of shipping the Cadillac down there instead of the Trax.
  8. After going wildly off-topic (my bad), any other thoughts on this new Sonata Hybrid? it's a good looking sedan, much better than the original Sonata Hybrid a couple generations back--that one had a hideous front end.
  9. Yeah, got to wash the cars this week...the next 10 days don't sound bad here, highs in the 30s-40s..but this coming Friday only 17...weird..
  10. Been snowing off and on since Friday. Yes, only another 6 weeks or so till Spring (at least on the calendar). Overall this has been a very mild winter for Cleveland...I don't mind the gray and snow, its the polar vortex cold like last year I don't enjoy...20s-50s is no big deal.
  11. I know I need to get in better shape...too much sitting on my butt. And I'll be 50 in four months...
  12. Pacifica seems like it would be a great vehicle for a cross country road trip...would have been more spacious than my GC on the 2100 mile drive from Phoenix to Cleveland w/ 6 dogs..
  13. I could see a Chrysler CUV based on the Compass or Cherokee. Make a luxury oriented soft roader.
  14. IIRC, the AJ V8 is unrelated to the Ford modular family of V8s (4.6, 5.0, 5.4, etc)
  15. I'd be happy with a climate where the temps ranged from 55-75 with about 20% humidity. Some sun is ok, but I don't like continuous sun. I have you beat on the body fat...I think I'm around 35%. 6'0" 240lbs, never work out.
  16. I wondered also..hope he's doing well.
  17. I love San Diego/Del Mar..used to go there 3-4 times a year. .The lakes here are in green wooded areas...and I have Lake Erie...huge. The lakes in AZ still have desert ugly around them...
  18. Whatever floats your boat... I FUCKING HATE THE FUCKING DESERT. Been there, done that...the damage done...I love greenery and going out to the islands and lakes.. ?
  19. Remember, I lived there 9 years...yes, winter is nice.. May through October it beyond sucks. Hell on Earth. Too many triple digit days. A sea of beige stucco houses in the burbs, ugly, ugly desert shit beyond that, dust and crap and unrelenting heat. Now up north is nice--I liked Prescott, Jerome, Flagstaff.. I do miss my pool, the January car auctions, and a few restaurants..but that's about it...
  20. Have had both in the last 24 hours...freezing rain changing to snow...about 6 inches of snow so far over the ice. About 30 outside. And it was almost 60 Monday-Tuesday. More snow in the winter means my trees and yard will be green and healthy, so I don't mind it. I love the greenery as opposed to dust and beige everything in the desert void..
  21. Yeah, first I'd heard of that..pretty cool...I was familiar with the name David Brown (was the DB in Aston Martin history), but this is new to me..
  22. Good point....so yes, you might 'own' your Tesla, but Elon has the right to update or remove the crapware at anytime... EVs at this point only make sense as a lease, wouldn't want to 'own' one... I won't buy new either, but I wouldn't buy a used Tesla either...they are just lease appliances... the long term aspect of Teslas is too questionable. As appliances, it's best to just recycle them after a few years...imagine how miserable life will be for some schmuck stuck with a dead 10 yr old Model S.. FTS. It's like a cell phone, you don't want to be carrying around one that is 5 or 10 years old...
