The Compass and Renegade are well under 30k. Jeep got me hooked when I was 29... my first new SUV was my '00 Grand Cherokee Laredo--the entry level GC, right around 30k....20 years later still driving Jeeps.

Every city has problems w/ the poors.. not sure what the solution to it is. But I love the culture and energy of large cities..Cleveland has a vibrant downtown, lots of good bars and restaurants, the natural beauty of the lake and beaches, the river, the theatre district (2nd only to NYC in size), the symphony, great museums and universities...I love spending time in the city but love living in the burbs. And it's way cheaper here than Chicago or other larger cities.. Rural is ok for vacations, but couldn't do it full time..my Dad loved living on the farm, but I find it really, really dull out there.. not to mention it is very high maintenance and the isolation.

Samsung shows off new Foldable Flip Phone
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electronics and Technology
I think hers is a Galaxy 7...she's never had any issues w/ it. I like their TVs a lot.. I have a 40 inch Samsung HDTV that came with my house, was mounted over the fireplace..great picture, works fine...it's like 9 years old...moved it to my bedroom when I got a Samsung 65 inch 4K HDR QLED HDTV for the living room this past Christmas. Still have my Toshiba 55 inch HDTV in another room, it's 8 years old and still works great, but so heavy compared to newer flat screens... -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

I'm conflicted as to which worse. One thing the HD does better is the front fender and the corners. The regular Silverado is a complete mess with 53 conflicting lines and angles where the bumper, grille and fender meet.... just way overwrought. -
Well, that's what the Overland, Summit, Trailhawk, Rubicon, etc trims are for...

Samsung shows off new Foldable Flip Phone

I like tablets for lying in bed and reading books and magazines in the evening or on an airplane. The phone is too small for that. I do watch YouTube videos on my phone or tablet occasionally, but at home I just usually cast them to the Samsung HDTVs (65 inch in living room, 40 inch in bedroom). -

Tundras and Titans look better than the Silverado. The Silverado needs everything forward of the windshield restyled and simplified...it's too busy, too much ugly going on IMO...not sure which is worse, the regular or the HD. -

Though I'm a long-time iPhone fan, I am impressed w/ the Samsung Galaxy line of phones. My sister's is 3 years old and it's battery life is still strong..great camera and screen also....my iPhone's battery life is as horrible as it has always been. Samsung does have some solid products, love their HDTVs... -
Samsung shows off new Foldable Flip Phone

I remember the reviews..like after a few uses the screen was bulging and you could pry it loose w/ a fingernail. -
Cadillac News: The Unclear Future of the Blackwing V8
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Mercedes engines are generally known for their long life, but as with any modern vehicle the electronics are the weak sauce to long term reliability. And some of their engines have weird design flaws. I'm sure one could get a million miles out of a GM LS engine, and it would be way cheaper to maintain than an MB to that point. Not that I would want to get a million miles out of anything, I'm not a masochist. 100k miles is more than enough for me with one vehicle... -

I don't like the larger phones because they don't fit in pockets as easily, and a larger phone is harder to use with one hand...with the 7 I can hold in my left hand and use my thumb to launch apps anywhere on the screen..can't do that with a larger screen. I like my iPad and Kindle Fire for reading books and magazines, sometimes watching videos... I don't really want a phone that thinks it's a tablet. Different use cases. -

I wonder how well these folding screens will hold up to daily use, though. I do like the idea of smaller phones. I really don’t want anything larger than my iPhone 7, but it seems everything is considerably larger now. -
Maybe they need to turbocharge their supercharged engines, or supercharge their turbocharged engines...like Volvo does.

They have 3 affordable cute-ute models to get people into the brand, though...Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee..

Cadillac News: The Unclear Future of the Blackwing V8
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
GM's core issue seems to be management incompetence. They come out with an all new engine in a car being cancelled. That's incompetence. Their trucks are horrifically styled. The Camaro is so badly designed as to be unusable as far as outward visibility. That's incompetence. The C-suite is full of imbeciles. Actually, engines have been one of M-B's core engineering strengths for decades. -
The Gladiator is a novelty more than anything else. Basically a better riding Wrangler with a large trunk. Not a lot of market for it compared to a regular pickup.

They all look better than the current Silverado, though... -

Despite being suburban and a couple miles from a couple busy freeways, my 1967 vintage neighborhood is very quiet. No streetlights, lots of wooded lots, houses relatively close together but not like a modern subdivision. I enjoy the quiet. For sleeping, I love the sound of the ocean. The constant roar of the surf. The night I was in Daytona Beach last week I slept really well. Even 8 stories up I could hear the surf. I need more beach time.

Cadillac News: 2021 Cadillac Escalade Leaks Out
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
I wish they had built the Elmiraj...a large beautiful 2dr ht coupe...M-B and Bentley can build large 2dr ht coupes...why can't Cadillac? I know, I know...Americans want FWD/transverse engine CUVs... -
Nice...if my brother wasn't there, I could go and enjoy the property...unfortunately, with him living there I can't enjoy it...my Dad bought it in 1968 a place to retire to, my folks enjoyed it for 30 years until his passing in 1999. 150 acres in the woods, 2 large ponds (he stocked them w/ fish), 1859 vintage house, 1830 vintage guest house (log cabin), huge Amish barn from 1884, two 2 car garages, etc. Very tranquil out there... This pic is from 30 years ago, the two Fox Mustangs I had at the time w/ the Winnebago and barn in the background.

On my family farm 90 miles south of here (where my brother lives, the property I co-own), I think dial up is still all that is available..pretty rural out there...scenic, but rural.. the house, guest house, barn, garages, etc are in the woods at the center of this pic, taken from the end of the driveway 3/4 of a mile away..hard to see w/ all the summer growth. Spent my childhood there, but now dread going there.

Internet speed is definitely a concern outside the metro area.. I am thinking long term about buying a vacation home/condo on Kelley's Island or South Bass Island (Put-in-Bay) out in Lake Erie...I love going there in the summer...but the connectivity isn't that great. Or I may buy a vacation house on the mainland right on the coast in one of the small towns about 20-40 miles from Cleveland.. still close to civilization.

I’ve done boonies/rural, so boring out in the sticks and too many weird rural people. I prefer the close-in burbs and being within a couple miles of major freeways, a level 1 trauma center, excellent doctors, good Thai, Mexican, Indian, etc cuisine delivery, gigabit internet, and a short drive to the big city amenities like the symphony, concert venues, museums, great restaurants, etc. Wouldn’t want to be in a metro area smaller than this.

And all the steel and coal jobs went away, etc. Driving through the depressed areas I’m reminded of the old Simon & Garfunkel lyric ‘nothin but the dead and dying in my little town’.
