  1. Those have a lumpy, melted blobs of plastic look..cheap generic 90s looks...the despair gray on the second pic doesn't help either. I like the sharper edges and well-defined openings of the older dash.
  2. It was a lot of fun. It was April and the weather was quite nice. That weekend ended with a twist. After dropping the car off at Hertz and heading back to the San Jose airport on Sunday afternoon, I find out my flight home to Denver had been cancelled—-a blizzard in Colorado. They said I wouldn’t be able to get on a flight out until Wednesday. I checked w/ Hertz and Avis about a one-way rental to Denver. Hertz wanted like $200 extra. So at Avis I rented an Impala—no extra charge—and drove up to Reno for the night. Then on Monday drove over 1000 miles from Reno to Denver via Salt Lake City and Wyoming. Very scenic drive..
  3. I could see them adding an Acadia sized 3 row between the Envision and Enclave. Or a coupe CUV. Maybe they can find uses for Exclave, Entree, Emigre, Entendre...
  4. I really can’t see GM merging with anyone or needing to merge. I could see them acquiring an EV maker, though. Too much overlap with Ford. Ford does seem to be in a worse place currently.
  5. Grand eXtended. Or something in Mandarin. Or nothing.
  6. Hmm... one can imagine some interesting synergies from such an alliance...Hellcat Maxima and Hellcat GT-R. But seriously, I'd love to see FCA's inline 6 plan come to fruition and maybe see it in a new small Z car and a new generation of GT-R...Nissan has a great performance history, but they seem to have largely ignored it and let the Z and GT-R age while focusing on appliances. I could see Nissan evolving their full size trucks to be Ram variants (which was proposed a decade or so ago?)...
  7. This is the article I saw...on multiple FB automotive pages, an 'analyst'..Douglas A. McIntyre of 24/7 Wall St. https://speedsociety.com/generalmotors-ford-merger-soon/?fbclid=IwAR1sibwgRTvdPQd89QOa28J46ls42_U4yWjNqmnK5ryeCW6eez6Z17KAIII
  8. I had a red Thunderbird for a long weekend rental in San Jose back in 04. It was plenty powerful. I enjoyed top down drives among the redwoods on Skyline Drive, around San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge and down to coast to Santa Cruz. It was a sweet cruiser.
  9. Anyone see the article today speculating about a Ford-GM merger? May just be BS, but who knows. Interesting times...
  10. Probably didn’t want to spend the coin to come up with another E name.
  11. Just saw a beautiful gold 69 Mustang Mach 1 at a light.
  12. I know I often come off as rabidly anti-Fwd transverse engine layout, but I do have a soft spot for some of GMs FWD full sizers. I really liked the ‘00 DTS my sister had...drove it quite a bit between 2011-15. Fast, smooth, comfortable. Too many electrical issues as it aged though. Always liked the 90s FWD STSes, the last gen of Eldorado and Riviera, both generations of Auroras, the Park Avenues, the unique late 80s Electra—esp the T-Types...
  13. A convertible for summer Saturdays along Ohio’s North Coast would be perfect. Just saw a blue ‘00s Thunderbird w a black top.
  14. Not many Oldses came up for sale on Auto Trader around here, but this 95 Cutlass Supreme convertible looks clean, only 55k miles. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=510478981&zip=44131&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D44131%26sortBy%3Drelevance%26incremental%3Dall%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Don%26makeCodeList%3DOLDS%26searchRadius%3D50&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0&makeCodeList=OLDS&searchRadius=50&makeCode1=OLDS&modelCode1=CSUPR&clickType=listing
  15. Of course, there never has been a $35k Model 3--that was mythical hype...in the US hasn't the cheapest Model 3 been more like $50k?
  16. I had a couple of that generation Impala as rentals, liked how they had the ignition on the dash, kind of an old time throwback detail, along w/ the column shift. I had many rentals of the long running generation after that...those drove pretty nicely..
  17. I know, but GM drank the FWD Kool Aid 40 years ago and have been stuck w/ mass quantities of FWD transverse vehicles since then...
  18. Even today there are people that resist most modern technology including ICE---the Amish. They live in the past and are ignored. Other luddites can join them.
  19. I assume they stick w/ V6s as those can be shared w/ FWD transverse engine models like the Highlander, Avalon, ES, etc..
  20. I don't think so...Tundra is an NA novelty, I believe. Outside of a few places like the Middle East and parts of South America, there isn't much market outside NA for 'murican' style Big Gulp sized trucks. The current Hilux is built in Thailand.
  21. Yes, with the Hilux...I think the Tundra is just a low volume NA model...the Hilux is smaller than the Tacoma.
  22. Thankfully that’s in my past. No more high mileage German cars. Or any high mileage car in my life. Not enough of a market, I assume. Full size sedans are a dying niche in NA. I’d love to see a RWD Impala/Caprice and something from Buick using the CT6 platform (Omega?). But GM, like others, is moving away from sedans... Or the Chevy SS, I would think.
  23. If you had a short in the ignition, stray electrons could leak out..
  24. I guess just not enough potential ROI to invest heavily in a product that is a regional novelty in a market dominated by the domestic brands.
