April (Fools) Carspotting - cars and/or fools
Robert Hall replied to trinacriabob's topic in The Lounge
Another spotting of sorts...for Easter Brunch we took Uber, and the driver going downtown was driving a silver Saab 9-5 Sportcombi. It was in really clean condition for something 10+ years old. Felt smooth on the freeway and over potholed Cleveland streets from the backseat...driver coming back had a Pacifica w/ the power sliding doors.. nice inside. -
Yeah, that era of Lincoln dash design looked pretty similar to Ford dashes, and there was a bland sameness to the layout and center stack across many models..

Yes, ditch the mediocre FWD platform, move to the Explorer/Aviator RWD/AWD platform and make some serious sedans that are CT5 and CT6 sized or larger..

Interesting...going full circle on the name. RWD/AWD on the new Explorer platform would make sense...

I do wonder if Lincoln has any plans for new sedans..would be weird to see it become a CUV/SUV only brand.

Speaking of Lincoln and restyles and renamings, I wonder what will become of the MKZ...

Current Edge dates to 2015, had a minor MCE for 2019. The Nautius is basically a carryover from the MKX, updated w/ the new Lincoln front fascia..the dash in it looks dated compared to the Corsair, Aviator and Navigator.

The Nautilus just came out for 2019, but still has the old Ford-style dash from the MKX...wonder when it will get a refresh to look more like the newer CUVs.

Saw a gray Chevy Bolt at the grocery yesterday, one of a very few I've seen around here. This afternoon in a food coma from Easter Brunch, lying on the sofa watching an old movie about WW II in the Philippines saw an unusual truck in the movie...had a squared off cab w/ a C-shaped door opening like a mid 20s Model T, but a late 30s Ford truck front end w/ oval grille. -
I remember that with my diesel Escort and my Bronco II..gutless wonders on hills w/ the A/C on. With the Bronco II was particularly noticeable in Colorado..it was scary slow on steep sections on I-70 in the mountains...
-
Probably...don't know, don't care. When I need A/C, I use it.

I guess they kept the interior materials cheap to maximize profit...now I wonder if it will be priced competitively or if they will price gouge? So how does this compare to the Equinox in size? Looks tiny...

I can't imagine anyone buying a family sedan like the Sonata would care about the HP, torque or 0-60. This is functional point A to point B transportation.

XC40 looks very substantial in person, despite it's compact dimensions. Seems like a solid, stylish product inside and out...

I really like the looks of that E-class coupe. More so than the S-class coupe which looks like the roof is too small for the body from some angles.

The mainstream multitudes that buy Toyotas want predictability and consistency in their leased transportation products. .

That passenger side dash trim wedge is a common motif seen on countless modern vehicles.

I took my '00 GC off road in Colorado a week after I bought it new. But that's how it is in Colorado. I remember seeing lots of GCs on the high country trails. I'm sure it's still a small percentage of owners, though. In generic suburbs, the typical SUV owner with 2.5 kids probably rarely goes on anything rougher than a gravel road...
-
For these luxury SUVs, it's probably less than 1% of owners that take them off road, and in the US it's mostly in Colorado and a few other western states, I would presume..

Interesting...I kind of like the blue, but don't care for the gray. If it were all blue, that might be interesting. I see they are doing the white trim like on the blue interior Navis...
