My sister loves her Galaxy 7--the Samsungs do seem to have great battery life and great camera.

With work, I stay in touch w/ colleagues in AZ via email, daily phone calls and Skype messenger (text only). For my teams in India and Barbados it's too unpredictable for video, so we have conference calls, with the occasional WebEx to share desktops. I've been working this way for over a year now, took some adjustment, but since I've been working w/ this team almost 4 years it was a pretty smooth transition.

Finally replaced my iPhone 6..had it almost 3 years...battery wasn't holding a charge, and it was starting to randomly hang/freeze up and not take input from the touch screen. Ordered an iPhone 8 w/ twice the capacity and had it in 2 days, was easy to set up and re-sync everything w/ iCloud. Working great, much better battery life.

Ya, I definitely find myself staying in touch by phone much less than in the past. I have friends in Colorado I still call once in a while to talk with, but we mostly exchange email or texts or FB comments. My sister and I stay in touch w/ texts & FB messenger when she is out of town or out of the country for work. About the only people that I only use the phone to stay in touch with are my brother and an uncle. And I think the generation younger than mine rarely ever uses a phone to make calls.

The GTO convertible is a '69...sharp. Engine would be a 400. Not sure what green that is, lighter than Vedoro.

My client has a weird mix of Lenovo Windows 10 desktops, VMWare Windows 10 VMs (I have a dedicated VM that I RDP to everyday) and our server environment is IBM Websphere on Windows 10 Server. I'd rather have IBM products on Unix platforms, but it seems to perform well overall on Windows 10 Server. I loathe IBM products for their needless complexity (they really aren't DIY) but I've come to know them quite well.. I used to dabble in Linux at home, with Ubuntu, SuSe and RedHat..I got tired of dealing w/ differences in Linux distros and having to do a lot of sys admin. I like MacOS for it's consistency and simplicity. -

Unfortunately, my client is all Windows 10 and Windows Server. But Remote Desktop from my Mac works very well. What I love about MacOS is it is UNIX inside, so I have my favorite command line environment when I need it. -

It looks fine on my iPhone and iPad. It's on Safari and Chrome on MacOS that I see the weirdness. I haven't checked on my Windows 10 laptop, but I try and avoid using Windows whenever possible. -
If it was one of the old Grummans, those didn't have AC...I remember talking w/ my delivery guy in Phoenix a few years ago about it.

I used to be a premium subscriber, but must have forgotten to renew. I don't really mind the ads, it's the bad formatting and excess whitespace that makes it hard to read.. Edit: I was able to subscribe (the PayPal connection still gives an error, had to use a CC). Most of the ads are gone (still get the popovers at the bottom of the page). The excess white space is largely gone, though the formatting is still off (Unread Content link is way off to the right and requires scrolling). Oh well... -
Fascinating..did they offer the TB SS in the Envoy also at the end? The GMT360 had a lot of brand variations..Chevy, GMC, Buick, Olds, Isuzu, SAAB...too bad Pontiac and Caddy didn't get their own.
-
I haven’t seen one of fastback Buick or Olds in ages. I see a fair number of TrailBlazers still on the road around here; I don’t see the other siblings. There is a clean silver TB SS and a rusty, battered black TB SS I see with some frequency.

Yeah, I guess my mental image is like burning charcoal in my grille. Very messy
-
I can't imagine the mess it would make if I tried burning some in my fireplace..

No, just seems incredibly archaic. My family 1859 house is heated w/ natural gas (with a heating oil backup furnace), though it may have been heated by coal 100 ago..
-
Sounds like its still in the 1800s there..people still heat with coal?

There was discussion in one of the threads about recent issues w/ the ad server and the bad formatting..it's painful to use the site with all the weird whitespace and the 'Unread Content' link scrolled off the side. I tried subscribing, assuming that would be ad free, but the subscribe feature isn't working w/ PayPal...I just get an error.

They put a 6.0L V8 in those? Thought they only had an inline 6. The Buick was called the Rainier, so it would make sense to see one in Washington..;) Haven't seen one of those in a long time, had to look up the name because I couldn't remember it.

Reality is complex. Rash economic policy decisions made by short-sighted, incompetent politicians can result in unintended consequences.

The Volvo P1800 w/ the definition is what would be considered truly a coupe by the old definition. Short roof, small back seat area. The Coupe de Ville was a 2dr sedan after they stopped building hardtops. In some eras, cars had coupe versions at the same time they had other 2dr versions...like the '40s cars--the coupes were 2drs with short roofs, often without a backseat. The 2dr sedan had a longer roof w/ a backseat. The '40 Ford or '49 Ford are a good examples. As far as modern '4dr coupes' and coupe SUVs, well, that's marketing...they are expanding the meaning of coupe.

Industry News: Rumorpile: Detroit Auto Show Moving to June
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
June is OK, IIRC from when I lived there..July and August were hot and humid. The 3 years I lived there, I spent a lot of time in air-conditioned offices and labs (grad school)...the thing I remember most about summer was going to the beaches up on Lake Huron..very nice.- 10 replies

Industry News: Rumorpile: Detroit Auto Show Moving to June
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
I'd consider going if it were in October or June....both nice months in Michigan. I have no interest in going to Detroit in January. (I went to the NAIAS in '95-97 because I lived nearby in Ann Arbor).- 10 replies

Yes, coal is filthy and hazardous to people and the environment. An obsolete fuel that should have no future.

Cadillac News: Possible Cadillac Coupe is Revealed in New Patent

Is filing design patents for car styling a relatively new thing? Wasn't really familiar w/ this going on..- 16 replies

Just your opinion...you are negative about anything that isn't Murican. I've been in an 80s SL, it was fine, albeit a bit dated (early 70s design). Certainly nicer inside than the dreadful Fisher-Price C4 Corvette interior (the only 2 seat convertible GM had in the mid 80s).
