  1. Playing devil's advocate. Sadly, there is a lot of truth in his posts. GM is in dire straits.
  2. Timing, bad economy, lack of advertising. Had this car been out in '05-06, it could have been a hit (had GM been able to produce it without limited manufacturing capacity). It's the best thing to wear a Pontiac badge in a long time, IMHO.
  3. Odd..I would think GM would want a V6 diesel, at least for Europe. I'd love to see the CTS and other cars in the US available with a diesel.
  4. Umm...you are talking about hot rodder stuff...the typical luxury car buyer (i.e. target Cadillac market) doesn't care about any of that. All they know is DOHC = more cams 32 valves= more valves i.e. more = better more complex->more expensive->more luxurious. And a perception of smoother, more refined (which they often are). Like it or not, pushrods and 4spd automatics are too old school for that market. I'm not sure why one would 'worry' about DOHC either, I've never had problems with DOHC engines (nor have I had problems with OHV engines). (My favorite engines of cars I've owned are the Ford 5.0 V8 and the BMW DOHC straight 6).
  5. Internet DVD rentals took off, Netflix has been quite successful... I haven't been in a Blockbuster in nearly 9 years now (had Netflix since May '00). Streaming video is supposed to be the next big thing...
  6. Or a Prius....one world, one Toyota for all! After all, Toyota's logo looks like a T against a globe..
  7. Not yet... maybe they will move the DTS to the W platform! After all, the Impala is going to be W for another 10 years probably.
  8. Big difference between that car and some transverse-engined V6 generic of today...
  9. That's a pretty amazing statistic!
  10. Novel idea, but at this point, GM has no money to do anything beyond the status quo..
  11. Wow..that Lincoln is indescribable... I have memories of riding in the ones my folks had back in the '70s, but they were 4drs. This morning in traffic, I saw a very worn '55 Chevy stepside pickup w/ a adder rack, keeping up w/ the 65mph hr traffic...amazing to see something so old in daily traffic.
  12. Those Typhoons were pretty cool, I'd always rather have an SUV over a truck... I think if I going to have an over-top powerful truck or SUV, I'd go for a Grand Cherokee SRT8..
  13. Correct, the serious luxury SUVs from BMW, Merc, Land Rover/Range Rover are all RWD/AWD. The RX is in the entry-lux market, along with the MDX and MKX... Cadillac is aiming at this low end (albeit high volume) end of the lux market, not the big leagues. Even Infiniti aims higher. IMHO, RWD/AWD SUVs on dedicated platforms are automatically superior to FWD/AWD generics, but the masses want their FWD..
  14. Thing is, though, a lot of models from Europe translate quite well here...i.e. witness the success in the US of the good stuff: Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes... even the mass market VW had done well here..
  15. I'm sure the media will blame the violent video games and movies that the kiddies love to consume..
  16. Meh..just another FWD generic...nothing worth getting excited about, whatever brand it ends up being.
  17. Doesn't matter...at least 90% or more of Audis in the US have Quattro. Pointless...Cadillac is dead in Europe..they already tried the FWD BLS and it tanked.
  18. Yes, but Audi is mostly all AWD in the US...Audi is all about Quattro.. so it's different...and they aren't based off of mass market FWD models (except for the A3).
  19. Exactly...but Cadillac dealers probably now worry about Buick dealers stealing sales from them and vice versa.
  20. Ok, maybe not a Cimmaron, but a Lexus ES equivalent-- a FWD entry lux generic based off a mass market FWD sedan. Nothing significant. Such a car would help Cadillac compete with Lincoln maybe, but hardly M-B or BMW.
  21. GM needs to think outside the box on how to raise funds...maybe place execs disguised as homeless guys at the bottom of the freeway exit ramps throughout the Detroit metro area to collect change...or panhandle on the streets of Detroit. Or collection boxes at dealerships (Donate to Help Save GM!).
  22. I've long thought GM was it's own worst enemy..people try and blame the media, Toyota, the unions, the government, I think they majority of their problems lie within.
  23. Yes, but these may indeed be the End Times for GM, the final downward spiral into oblivion... it's all about short-term survival right now, by sacrificing the future..
  24. If they go all FWD, maybe with some AWD, it means they've set their focus on Lincoln, and maybe a bit of the Acura and Volvo market, as well as the lesser Lexuses. They will have given up on competing in the big leagues.
  25. Blarch. Please, no FWD sedans for Cadillac...leave the mainstream to C-B-P.
