Most cars are fluff over function, crossovers of all shapes in particular, LOL. If all you're looking for is function and little fluff, the best value in this segment is actually the Mitsubishi Outlander.
-
As far as the name, I'm "meh" about it.... names don't matter or mean anything anymore outside of pony cars. Also, even though the XT5 hasn't done anything to wow me, I will give it this: It feels very very spacious for that class of vehicle and the 3.6 will be stupid fast in this Chevy.
-
I guess it wasn't clear because I don't understand what the issue is with choices in the same showroom. If you want upright, go for a Traverse, Acadia, Terrain, or Enclave. Traverse, though the largest in the segment, is still considered in the mid-size category since it competes on price with Explorer, Durango, and Pilot. As the title to the article says, this is filling a gap between Traverse and Equinox that Chevy has currently that some of the competition already has filled (Ford, Nissan, VW, Lexus, Lincoln) or will be filling (Honda, Acura)
-
And the difference in cargo area width between the Murano and Pathfinder is a massive 0.9 inches in the Pathfinder's favor.
-
Then buy a Pathfinder or Traverse if golf is that important to you. That's why there are choices. Most of these will go to soccer moms.
-
That's why there are other choices in the GM showroom. If that's what you need, they will happily direct you to the Traverse or GMC/Buick dealer for an Acadia/Envision. But... just putting this out there on what everyone should expect to see.
-
Exactly... these aren't being sold to people going camping for a week, people who do that will buy an Explorer over the Edge, Pathfinder over the Murano, etc.. These are for urban warriors who "need" an SUV to go to Ikea once a year. Well, he called them a fail when they are not. That was my point of contention. Going to disagree with you on GM producing something unique here. Even under the Camo it looks like it's going to have the same general silhouette as the Edge or Murano. Aside from the likely Traverse face, it will blend right in with the others. Heck, it might even get a "floating roof".
-
We're enthusiasts, these vehicles aren't meant for us. These are for people who get excited over daring shades of beige on beige. There are a lot of people out there who buy them.
-
Those are also good sellers (except the ZDX)... so just because you don't fit in one doesn't mean they shouldn't be sold.
-
Pick a sleeper, describe it in an accurate but funny way. Only rule: Must be a true sleeper, so all sports cars and pony cars are out. 1. 1987 Buick Regal T-Type.... for when Nana is late for bingo but has 355 lb-ft of torque under her right orthopedic shoe.
-
Pilot was the largest in the segment till the 2018 Traverse came out. Honda could fit another crossover between Pilot and CRV

I don't think it will change Tesla's status as a status symbol... I just think that people will get tired of waiting. I could go get a lease on any number of plug-in hybrids today and still have time left before my Model 3 was ready. I know of two people personally who have already canceled their reservations.
-
I agree with you.. Model 3 buyers will not move over to a Leaf. If they would, that would already be happening with the Bolt. However, in a few of the Tesla groups I follow online, more than a handful seem to be getting frustrated with the slowness of the Model 3 rollout and Tesla's attempts to push them into a substantially more expensive Model S. They're not going to Leafs or Bolts, they're just going to other luxury marques or just sticking with what they have.

Hyundai News:Hyundai Finally Gives the Green Light to A Pickup
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
It would really solve a whole bunch of problems for me. A full size crew-cab pick-up is too big to get around the corner of my driveway. An Avalanche is really pushing the limit of what I can get back there. Albert won't drive something as big as an Avalanche and we sometimes need to swap cars. The Canyonado crew cab is a little too small inside, but if I could get the flexibility of an Avalanche style bed, I would live with it.- 28 replies

What's funny is that Audi didn't even have their names tied to engine displacement, so this move was entirely unneeded. A8 was enough, you got the big one. My guess is that someone over a VAG saw what Tesla was doing with the Model S (P70, P80, P100D) and got a "bright idea".... and will probably get a bonus for it.

Jeep News: FCA Sees Jeep Becoming Quite Big In Sales
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
Jeep and Ram are probably the only brands in the entire FCA organization bringing in any real cash. Fiat commercial in Europe maybe also as the Promaster equivalents there seem quite popular. Maserati may be profitable, but it is so niche market at this point that it can't be making serious volumes of cash even if the ROI is decent. Plus they're still using Chrysler parts bin for far too much of the Maserati interior. There's no way that Alfa is profitable yet.- 5 replies

Yeah, I don't see a market below the size of the previous Ranger. I doubt anyone will, but it would be nice to see someone fill that niche.- 28 replies

Yeah, that's the thing with both BMW and Mercedes... sometimes the badge does match the displacement, but not always.... and today, nearly never. It's been a slow phasing, but it was true. I honestly only learned this about 2 weeks ago. Benz gets weird in other ways. The C-class could be the same exact car with the same exact engine, but US, Canada, and China each would get different numbering. Starting in 2007 the C230 was sold as C 250 in Japan and Canada and as C 260 in China

Sadly, I learned recently, that even that was a myth for BMW after about 1980..... I didn't believe it wasn't true, so I went back and looked it up. After 1980, on BMWs, the model number might match the engine displacement, but that wasn't necessarily so. (example: 1982 325e and 525e used 2.7 liters 2693cc without rounding; a 2001 316i has a 1.9 liter, 1895cc without rounding) Mercedes stopped more recently, around 2000 depending on market.

Hyundai News:Hyundai Finally Gives the Green Light to A Pickup
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
I'd put a lot more trust in going over the rated payload in the Canyonado than the Ridgeline. The plastic bed of the Ridgeline would give me concern. Yes, you are correct that the Ridgeline will ride better than the Canyonado, but I didn't find the Ridgeline to be out of this world great. The Canyonado rides really well for a truck truck, it's just the seats in it are awful... and a big reason I won't get the current generation. My observations broken down for the segment: Ridgeline - Highs - Rides well, comfortable interior, feels fast. Lows - Loud interior with lots of road noise, plastic bed, AWD is not especially capable Canyonado - Highs - Decent ride, optional diesel, very fast with V6/8-speed, highest tow rating, can be optioned into a capable off-roader. Lows - Horrible seats, interior was dated at release, gets expensive fast when adding options, little to no deals to be made due to demand. Denali isn't very Denali beyond the badge. Tacoma - Highs - It's a Toyota, it will start and run every day for the next 20 years. Can be optioned into a capable off-roader. Lows - V6 is not a truck engine, torque doesn't come till too high in the power band. Bounciest of the mid-size trucks. Rather random dash button layout takes some getting used to. Frontier - Highs - Rides well, decent power, the most comfortable available seats. Lows - Dated Dated Dated Dated, this is the Grandpa of the group, still pricey for its age.- 28 replies

I can't decide whether this is dumber or the Benz scheme is dumber..... Benz will call anything an AMG 45 regardless of output or number of cylinders.
