That was the plan anyway. 2015 was the year I recall for it.

I don't think we need a new thread each month for this one, but I though a place to post pics of neat/interesting motorcycles would be fun. I spotted this at the local AdvanceAuto. I like the boxes he has on the side.

Independent Observations - July Car Spotting
Drew Dowdell replied to Camino LS6's topic in The Lounge
Least desirable year of that generation unfortunately... they'll have to come down in price, they've over valued it by 100% -
eh, put in the camp that the proposed model's proportions aren't all that. I would want a longer hood and lower belt line. The above doesn't do much for me as the first thought that came to mind was "Sonic RS Coupe".... and while a Sonic RS Coupe isn't a bad idea, it isn't something I see people dropping $30k on. I'm not opposed to a V4 idea, but I do see limitations to its implimentation. It could only be used in the RWD cars, the small trucks, and perhaps the Theta SUVs and large Epsilons. One positive of the V4 is that in the RWD cars already built for the 4-cylinder ecotec, it would improve balance by shifting weight rearward, potentially making cars like the Camaro and CTS front-mid engine cars with the entire engine aft of the front wheel center line. GM has developed engines with less product line distribution than this before though, so it isn't unprecedented on that front. What is unprecedented is GM doing anything unconventional.

The main problem I see with the V4 is that it would be almost exclusively a RWD engine which would limit the number of models GM could use it in. You might be able to get it into the Impala or Lacrosse, but FWD models smaller than that most likely wouldn't fit.

The need for the fancy plugs is generally on newer cars where the plugs are difficult to access or in the case of the Hemi, an engine 2 plugs per cylinder. In those situations, you really do want a 100k mile plug. On cars like my Olds or these Jeeps where it is a 20 minute job with a socket wrench and a gap tool, there really isn't much point to them.

GM News: General Motors CEO Creates Team To Study Tesla
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Could be? They already are. The SuperCharger network alone is enough to change the automotive landscape drastically.- 5 replies

I stopped trying to be fancy with plugs for my old car. I had the NGK Iridiums in there and they ran no better than plain old AC Delco copper plugs at 1/4th the cost. I can gap and swap out the 8 plugs in under 20 minutes, so there is no point in buying the fancy plugs for me. I suspect you'll find yourself in the same situation.

Right... his theoretical engine was only putting out 300hp from a 2 liter 2-stroke engine... I was asking what advantage I was getting since it wasn't in the HP dept.

Chevrolet News:Next-Generation Chevrolet Cruze Has Been Delayed
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I think the old Malibu could have soldiered on another year, even 2, with just some styling tweaks and maybe powertrain change. The only thing it was really missing inside was a full screen nav. It's still a better looking car today than the new Malibu. -
A 2.0T Ecotec can already do 300 hp with minimal effort... what advantage am I getting with a 2.0SPOHV 2 stroke?

Chevrolet News:Next-Generation Chevrolet Cruze Has Been Delayed
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Current Cruze is still selling well, there really hasn't been much movement by the competition, the diesel was just released. they've got time... -
for as huge as those wheels are, they look too small for the car.

Thanks for your lessons.. I couldn't quite wrap my head around the cam-in-cam construction.
-
Only a very modest increase in mass over a single standard cam then?

I"m guessing this will be somewhere between Lexus LS and Phaeton. Hyundai won't kill it because they're persistent, but it won't reach LS level of sales over the long term.

may seem like a silly question.... how do they get the cam inside the other cam?

I've recently discovered a few downtown charging stations in Pittsburgh. If I wasn't shopping for a truck and I was planning at staying in my current position longer, a Volt would make great sense for me. I spied it when spotting a LEAF in an odd parking spot in my normal garage downtown.

But doesn't DOHC allow for more options with VVT and VVL?

Jaguar News: Rumorpile: Jaguar Begins Work On A SUV
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
I wonder if they will try and make it LR based or if it will be a modification of a Jaguar platform. edit: DOh! reading is fundamental! -
We had torque back then...

Hopefully they are spending money on the interior also...the current, dated Colorado looks like they budgeted about $10 for the interior--cheap and nasty inside. I agree that the current interior is a bit cheap, but then my 72yr old father has one and loves it and thinks it is perfect so it could also be a bit of perspective. The younger groups just have higher expectations and yet with that said, if they are not willing to accept less features / base level auto's will never be in the reach of someone just starting out. Not every auto needs to have a cadillac interior. In my truck shopping, I quickly eliminated the Colorado/Canyon twins, but the S-10/Sonoma stayed on the list. The two reasons for nixing the Colorado were the interior (the S-10 is nicer) and serviceability, the Colorado has big issues with brakes and related maintenance.

A rather dreary looking interior, but I guess probably decent for the class.
