  1. Sounds like a problem with the starter solenoid, and the starter motor itself being burnt out. What happens is that inside the starter solenoid is a thermal limiter, it'll automatically kick the starter solenoid off whenever it builds up too much heat. Also the starter motor could very well be burnt out, causing the starter to only very slightly bump around (buidling up heat in the solenoid, causing the pulse, and from there it'll eventually get knocked out of the burned-out spot (at the cost of the spot getting bigger and draining the battery). I'd go ahead and drop the starter if it were me.
  2. All right, I've always got a trusty solution for problems like this..... Beat it with a hammer and call it dirty names.... No, really, I'd check and see what everyone else above has said, that's the best course of action. First see if its a spark or a fuel problem, from there, address the issue and see what happens.
  3. I know, I know, lets go get an 8.1 and put it in a regular cab truck.....I think that would be fun, almost 500 cubic inches of big block glory in a regular truck (y'all forgive my thinking, I know that the 6.2 is a great engine, but I'm still a fan of the big block).
  4. Lots of 08 Malibus. Two XLRs, lots of Caravans around here (they look kinda nice, but I dunno, little too boxy for my taste), lots and lots and lots of Acadias, couple of Enclaves (I really really really like those). Unfortunately no classics spotted yet, but I'm keeping the eyes peeled for them.
  5. Imagine watching an action movie and an explosion goes off, it'd probably be more like Hiroshima....
  6. Mine picked John McCain as the closest match to theoretical. And I have to agree with it. I also like Fred Thompson, be he was like 5th on the list with me.
  7. 28 isn't too shabby at all. And at least the mileage is steady like that and dosen't fluctuate up and down a whole lot. Kinda like my truck, it gets 8, no matter what I do, or where I go.
  8. Hmmm, I still have to go with neither, although I could easily imagine seeing those things tooling around a golf course with a couple of people and a set of clubs in the back.
  9. Well, went and looked today, it looks like its going to be a LaCrosse. I've got the sales brochure from the dealer, so that'll go to mom and dad's house so they can glance through it. The sales guy I talked to was a little snippy with me, so I pretty much just cut him loose after he unlocked the car for me and I got a chance to sit in it. I know that the guy is looking for the person that is going to buy right now, but he could have shown a little more courtesy since I know what my parents are looking for (which he apparently thinks I don't), and I know that they will be buying a new car off someone's lot. I hate to say that it probably won't be theirs, although I do appreciate the brochure and a chance to sit in all the seats that way I can give an impression to them.
  10. Not many, but I have to admit, in person they look really nice. I went and looked at one today whilst I was out and looking for my parent's new form of vehicular transport. If my dad would bite on a Malibu, then I think I could easily see one in the driveway at their house.
  11. I took it as a more "look at what is available, past, present, and future (or should be near-future) and build yourself a garage full"
  12. Well since I don't currently have my Impala, I can't tell you (she's in the body shop after someone clipped the front end off....) so I can't tell you what they are, but as soon as I get her back, I'll be happy to tell you what the full throttle shift points are.
  13. I'd like to ammend my above post... Long-range transport: Lockheed-Martin C-5B Galaxy (that way I can pack ALL my stuff into it and go wherever I want)
  14. I choose bipedal transportation if I have to choose either.....
  15. well, I've got the arming part down......just don't come near me with the chip part, or I'll be forced to use arms on you....
  16. I'm going to have to ask WTF is a Tata
  17. Yeah, and my wife has a definite liking to Vettes, I could probably convince her into a new one if I could, and if there were somehwere to put Heather, but right now it would have to be just a her car for fun, you know?
  18. the first generation 3.1s were relatively problem free, they weren't the most powerful engines in the world, but they got the job done. The second generation ones were a little better, and like the previous ones were good for what they were asked to do. Now of course we know of the intake gasket issue with them too, but that's mostly relegated to the second generation ones and the 3.4s. I enjoyed the one in the Buick when mom and dad had it, but I dunno, when I initially test drove an Impala with the 3.4, it felt underpowered, meanwhile the 3.8 felt just right in it. Kinda weird, but I guess maybe the Impala grew some in weight as compared to when it was in Lumina clothing.
  19. Sorry about the accident, and with a lot of repair shops if the frame isnt' all that bent up, it can be straightened and never have a problem out of it, but that's your choice in the long run, its also unfortunately the insurance company's choice too.
  20. congrats on the upgrade. we're on cable here, and running a wireless network through the house really helps with keeping all three desktops and the laptop running when everyone wants to play on the computers.
  21. Here goes nothing. Tower/hauler: Peterbuilt 379 with Cat Diesel Amy: GMC Acadia Me: 08 GMC 3500HD with Duramax/Allison combo Just for fun: 09 Camaro (me) 1969 Corvette (Amy)
  22. Actually, I have to throw the BS card on myself. The S-10 is actually a 2003 model, I think I stated earlier that it was an 05, but I was wrong, dunno how I got the years assbackwards, but I did. I'm thinking that they'll like the LaCrosse, and if I can find a G8, I will definitely try to talk them into it, but I have yet to find one, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for one, and when the chance comes, I'm going to look at it. I know that the Lucerne offers the dual-zone climate control, but its not standard, see my dad wants to go with the CX model LaCrosse simply because it comes with the dual zone climate control standard and all he'll have to really add is the lumbar adjustment for the seat. My parents are relatively simple when it comes to content in a vehicle. My dad see's the more stuff you add to the car, the more stuff that is likely to break, so if he can get out with just the lumbar adjustment and the base model LaCrosse, that's what he wants. I would, however; prefer a little more content in the car than he would, but at the same time, I know that the more you add, the more that can (and lets face it, probably will) break.
  23. I don't mind the electronic steering (wife's Cobalt has it, although the alignment on it is off from when it played bumper cars with a ranger). My Impala is relatively nice, I would like a few things different if I could have them when it comes to the car, but it is reliable, and affordable transportation. Although next ride will defenitely be a truck. Amy (the wife) is looking into an Acadia when the Cobalt's lease is up in a year and a half, so I'm probably going to look up close an an Acadia tomorrow too.
  24. Actually my truck has virtually no plastics, its all metal...
  25. Well, his work truck (fully loaded '05 Silverado) has got him spoiled on the dual zone, besides, he's more hot-natured than mom, so when she's comfortable, he's burning up. The S-10 doesn't have dual zone at all, so mom and dad normally don't agree on a temp for the interior of the truck to be. I'm also going to do my best to get some good pictures of the cars that way mom and dad can have some visuals to look at when it comes to making a decision before they go and actually look at one themselves. I know that right now mom and dad aren't going to go and buy one this weekend or anything, but they are seriously starting to consider it, which means that they need as much information on the choices as possible. I really tried to talk them into a Caddy, but dad doesnt' want to lay down 40k + on a vehicle. Currently he's spent really no more than 27k on any new vehicle (and that's all he buys), in his purchasing history, I know that right now he's not going to ever step into a true luxury car, I know he'll go near-lux since he's already had one Buick.
