  1. WOW! Great concept for a thread. Love that Sudebaker V8 Walt. So first off the Volvo's crap-tastic 2.4 liter Four banger. Everytime I open the long hood on my compact little Datsun and see the inline six sitting pretty lengthwise between the Firewall and radiator it puts a huge smile on my face. 5.7 liters of ZZZ350 crate motor direct from GM. Translation: 377 horsepower at 7000rpm. I'm selling my muscle car to get a luxury car but in terms of gross horsepower I will not be giving up much. Check out that air cleaner... that's a 345 horsepower 394 sitting between the fenders. Yup... this is what a 24,000 original mile 1964 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday looks like.
  2. I'm all for bringing back the GEO brand... right after GM brings back Oakland, LaSalle & Oldsmobile
  3. Good news buddy... hope this works out for you.
  4. Back in 2002 when tha Camaro was cancelled GM and the media said the demand for RWD sports coupes was dead and that RWD was a thing of the past. Then a couple years later the RWD Chrysler 300C was said to be a niche market car since it went RWD and all the numb masses addicted to the empty promisse of FWD said it woudl not do as well... I think we all knkow how that went. All RWD Pontiac means a MORE focused Pontiac, narrow or not. THIS is how Pontiac will become a true enthusiasts brand. The awsome part about this is that it almost guarantees a Kappa sedan or two. x 100,000,000.
  5. Redfox: Post some photos of your 1969 Camaro. It's by far the best looking model year of all time, only the 2006 Concept is a close 2nd. Balthazar makes a great point, how is a BMW 540 or a MB E-class V8 a "niche" vehicle? it's not they're all over the place. It's like a Camry of the yuppie towns around here. Not to mention the DeVille and panther cars. The longer this thread progresses the more people are reaching for straws... I think the fact that even HUGE gas guzzing SUVs with big V8s are doing well means cars are absolutely only going to sell better and better with V8s. I say Chrysler should make the HEMI standard with the next gen. 300, make a smaller V6 version of the LX cars for the midsize market. What red blooded American male has not dreamed of owning a V8 powered car. The V8 is as American as American Pie & Rock-N-Roll. If gas gets to like $7.00 a gallon like 20 years from now the displacement on V8s will go back down btu the V8 in general is not going anywhere!!! Hey, wheah yoo goin'? That's right... NO-wheah! [boondock Saints]
  6. That's right... the '68 Camaro and '94 Cutlass Ciera & even my '86 & '87 Fleetwood Broughams had waht's commonly refered to as a "header panel". The Acura does not technically have a header panel since it's all a part of the bumper cover but it fits the definition otherwise.
  7. Right now in my head I hear that mellodic sound of thousands of slot machines being simultaneously filled up with Quarters, Silver Dollars & such.
  8. Do it, that sounds awsome. Bustlebacks kick ass! They're FWD but at least the motor is mounted the right way unlike the 1986-2003 Sevilles. But the car aside it sounds like a good time.
  9. 3.0 V6? If the car's been sittig for a while worry about getting to roadworthy first, performance can come after a few cans of RESTORE & a good trans. flush. As far as the 3800, it's a great motor, FWD or RWD the Buick 3.8 was voted one of the "best 10 engines of the 20th century".
  10. I'm committed, after this Sig I HAVE to buy this Oldsmobile. "I'd rather have a V-8 infrontofme than a frontal lobotomy" ~ MightyMouse I need a RWD car like I need Oxygen. GM seems to be trying to suffocate me as of late! ~ Chapman
  11. This is what I looked like at 2:00pm thi past saturday.
  12. It's an automatis beleive it or not... the B&M shifter makes it more fun to drive by a small degree because I've disconnected the throttle kick down so that I have to shift it manualy. This is also how I get teens for MPG. The car's got enough torque to pull itself from 20 -mph top sixty in just a few seconds while in 3rd gear. My Camaro is the only semi-automatic that does not have some B.S. computer "over ride" function that does the exact opposite of what youy want. I put it in 1st it stayes there. I love my Sixty-eight Panther and so I post many flattering pictures of it but the car has a LOT of cosmetic issues.
  13. Cutlass Ciera GOODIES?
  14. Hopefully, either way it's the whole "buy low, sell high" concept. I sell a car that needs $10,000 worth of work for $5000 but then buy a car for $2200 that needs like $1500 worth of work. The result? I get a classic car I can be proud of instead one that looks & drives like I'm a scumbag who likes to neglect an antique car.
  15. Enzora & for all others who are thinking WTF? (this is the long version of the story) Ever since I can remember I wanted a 1st gen. Camaro, more than anything a 1969 Camaro spoke to me. More than anything short of a 911 Turbo or a McLaren F1, but those are a lot less obtainable and lack the soul and character of the original F-body. So in the summer of 2002 I bought one. The night I drove it home was the happiest day of my life until my daughter Sofia was born. I stayed up for hours just starring at it. I sat in the window sill and just drooled. It was like a drug, just turning the key and hearing the motor turn over gave me goosebumps. The ratchet shifter clicking into gear with its heavy mechanical sound was enough to raise my heartbeat. Everything true 60s muscle cars stand for this car has in abundance. It's scary and gets the adrenaline flowing just with it's sound alone. I've sat in the car before for a good 20 minutes just listening to the deep, thundering sound of the exhaust note. It's intoxicating... those long fenders and "Cheetah-like" rear quarters and the way the 1/4 windows squeak and swish their way down into the body and take the chrome-strip B-pillar with them. Listen to me going on and on and on... The Camaro is a part of who I am, it's one of the few material possessions in this world that I'd almost take a bullet for. I love it like a member of the family and so I must give it a proper send off. To have it sit and rot for another few years untill I can give it a restoration and make it roadworthy is selfish and stupid. It needs rear quarters, it needs brakes so bad that I have been irresponsible to even drive it for the past four years to begin with... the parcel shelf & window edges are rotted out and the damage from my guardrail scrape was never repaired. The wiring harness should have been replaced about 10 years ago and the trans. that I installed back in 2004 lasted about 2 weeks before my 7000 rpm shifts blew 2nd gear into shrapnel, not to mention it's been 18 months since I replaced the rear end and I've still yet to do the right thing by rebuilding and upgrading it. Since fall of 2004 I've been banned from N.E.D. because my "Panther" is a little too MAD MAX for pulling 13.9 runs without anything even resembling safety equiptment. The car deserves a restoration and a new lease on life and I'm not the guy to do it. I wish I had the cash & the tools but I don't and I the end if I did restore the car I'd end up with a drag car... at this point in my life I've moved on beyond speed and horsepower. I want a classic to enjoy wiht my whole family, the Camaro is not it at this point. Everytime I see a classic big landyacht driving down the road on a Sunday afternoon to the local ice cream joint with a little bright eyed kid in the backseat who will grow up to be a car nut of the truest variety I get jelaous. The Camaro is a toy for burnouts and the 1/4 mile, I want to move on to the next stage of my life. I want a summertime daily driver that I can enjoy with Marcia & Sofia not just by myself. A 1958 Desoto Firesweep, 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood hardtop or esp. a 1959 Buick hardtop 4dr. Since I set the goal of obtaining a 1959 Buick by this fall I have looked at a few and kept an eye on eBay. I still hope to own one by then but if this "stepping stone" 1964 Oldsmobile pushes back that deadline a bit so be it. It's a deal of a lifetime and I'm jumping on it. The 1964 Oldsmobile four door hardtops are at this moment in time my favorite Oldsmobiles of ALL time. If I could only ever own ONE more Oldsmobile before I die a 1964 Super 88 Holiday is THE ONE.
  16. Those photos up top of the Q45 by the G-waggen were taken at one of the most upscale hotels in Boston, the Park Plaza @ Boston Common, nestled in between the State House, Suffolk University & Emerson College. The other one is at the Boston World Trade Center. The convention center built for the DNC, but finished way too late and never utilized for it. Welcome to effin Massachusetts, we love wasting tax money. Burlington, MA JFK Library, South Boston.
  17. Z28: As you know, that blue on your Cobalt is SO much nicer in the flesh, those photos are nice but really do not do that blue metallic justice. My parents drove their Cobalt to our house today for a BBQ & I was admiring how nice and DEEP that color looks and how it shifts with the lighting and doby lines. Well, here's a few photos of the Q45 and Datsun from the past few weeks.
  18. Fly: I hear you but no doubt there's some cross-shopping going on there, a lot of SUV buyers don;t need a 3rd row anyway since they have one or two kids so even an FX is possible.
  19. I don't like the Statesman name either but you know what? At this point even a car called a "Poopstick" will be better than most of the lineup so long as it's got an available V8 & RWD. Any zeta by any name will be a big improvement over most of the current GM lineup.
  20. WHY? http://storm.tocmp.com/oldsmobile1964.htm There's a small chance I might be rollin' in a 1964 Super 88 soon. So for the past 5 nights I stay up at night with images of metallic stitching, the chrome AM radio, Ultra High Performance 394, four door hardtop roofline and the soon to be eBay listing for my 1968 Camaro. By the 4th of July I might be driving around in a classic Oldsmobile and the Camaro wil have a new owner. Any member of C&G can come by and take my Camaro off my hands right now for $3500 motor and all!
  21. Ninety-8-R know's what's what. I agree with 100% of his post. I come off like an ignorant RWD-loving fanatic but he's nailed it in B&W. This is the next big step for GM. If they can pull this off they just might be able to kick Toyota's @$$ after all. Even if they loose #1 status and don't get it back they'll at least be making cars people will give a damn about again.
  22. On a related note that Avatar is SOOOO cool!
  23. Very cool. Why not? It's a attention grabber. :0
  24. Budget minded... = no metalic & a light color for ease of maintenance. My choice? Bright lamon yellow!
