Hyundai unveiled a rendering of the new 2015 Genesis sedan today which features the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language.. The new model gets a dramatically restyled front end that is similar to the HCD-14 Concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show this year. The low-set, vertical grille is sandwiched between a pair of headlights. The HCD-14's roofline has also been carried over to the Genesis.

Inside, Hyundai says the Genesis will adopt its next generation of driver usability, including much better materials.

Hyundai is keeping quiet on the powertrains, but does say all-wheel drive will become an option.

No word on when the vehicle will debut.

HYUNDAI MOTOR PREVIEWS SOON-TO-BE LAUNCHED ALL-NEW GENESIS PREMIUM SEDAN

    • Information on the all-new Genesis unveiled to pique market’s interest
    • With its initial launch in Korea, the all-new Genesis to be introduced in major markets next year

Oct. 24, 2013 Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, today held an ‘All-New Genesis Media Preview’ for the Korean media at Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center and officially unveiled the first image renderings of the car. The purpose of the pre-launch media event was to promote its domestic launch scheduled later this year. Staging its world-premiere in Korea, the all-new Genesis will debut in major markets next year.

“Launched in 2008, Hyundai’s first premium rear-wheel drive sedan Genesis surprised the industry with its outstanding product competitiveness,” said Moon Sik Kwon, head of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center, in his welcome remarks. “The evolved all-new Genesis is the product of Hyundai’s best resources and capabilities and we strongly believe it will be a game-changer in the market.”

With a total investment of 500 billion KRW, the project began with the aim of developing a world-class premium rear-wheel drive sedan, and it took four years to develop the current model.

Its main strengths are: Premium and distinctive design, best-in-class chassis system, premium European brands’ level of driving and R&H performance, cutting-edge safety and convenience features.

With emotional touches included in every detail, conveying Hyundai’s brand identity ‘Modern Premium,’ the all-new Genesis has secured best-in-class basic product competitiveness through numerous tests carried out in various locations worldwide, including the famed Nürburgring in Germany.

    DESIGN

Since its introduction in 2009, Hyundai’s unique design philosophy ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ has evolved to the next level and the all-new Genesis is the first model to adopt Fluidic Sculpture 2.0.

While maintaining its original essence, Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is defined by core elements: Simple and harmonious design with refined fluidic design elements, modern Hyundai look with a singular hexagonal grille, easy-to-understand and pleasant design and rich visuotactile color, material and finishing of the car.

Designed based on this new philosophy, the all-new Genesis boasts a premium sports sedan look with refined, ‘in-motion’ design aesthetics. A single-frame premium hexagonal grille makes a bold front statement, while fluidic and voluminous surfacing complete the side lines. Meanwhile, the high-tech, sculptural surface emphasizes the rear design.

Its interior design aligns with the premium exterior, adopting consistent design details that fully reflect careful consideration of ergonomics and intuitive operation. Tailored design specifications for all materials and master craftsmanship-level finish strengthen its premium image.

The all-new Genesis also focuses on Human Machine Interface (HMI), which lets drivers intuitively recognize vehicle functions, allowing for more convenient and effective use of those functions.

Switches are categorized depending on their function, facilitating easier control. Symbols are standardized for intuitive recognition, and the feel of the grip and control have been improved as well.

Starting with the all-new Genesis, future models will be designed based on Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 and its HMI principles.

    SAFETY

The all-new Genesis significantly improved its safety in crash tests due to improved body structure and rigidity.

Its torsional and bending stiffness have been increased by applying more ultra-high-strength steel, hot-stamping and double-section structure on the front, partitioned engine room design as well as improved rear and center floor structures.

Passenger safety has been improved by the application of advanced seatbelt functions such as Emergency Fastening Device system (EFD), which tightly fastens passengers in crashes, and Pre-Safe seatbelt, which warns of danger in advance by tightening the seatbelt.

    PERFORMANCE

With improved suspension and application of various advanced technologies, the all-new Genesis offers top-class driving and ride & handling performances. Greatly improved lateral stiffness of the front and rear suspensions and excellent weight balance contribute to the making of a stable chassis. Meanwhile, application of electronic control suspension such as Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) enables greater stability in corners.

Furthermore, Rack-mounted Motor Driven Electric Power Steering (R-MDPS) was first applied to the model with a variable gear ratio, which provides high-speed stability and direct response at low and medium speeds.

Hyundai’s ‘HTRAC’ all-wheel drive system will also be available for the first time on the all-new Genesis. The advanced HTRAC system electronically controls torque split between the front and rear axles depending on road and driving conditions, offering greater stability on slippery roads and in corners. It also allows drivers to select driving modes for a sophisticated and tailored driving experience.

I'll go against the grain around here and on twitter and say... that's actually pretty handsome.

it'll look terrible from the front in states with front plates though

It looks like they spent a lot more time on the design this time around and it paid off. There was little doubt in my mind they would take a leap forward in style for the second gen based on their other efforts.

So I see they have the Coupe style of a BMW/MB. Headlights of the MB, Peugeot / Aston front end. A bit of Acura I also see here.

Over all handsome auto, better than past attempts and clearly a nice direction of blending the higher end auto's to give them a distinct design language. Seems they have finally grown up.

Nice Job Hyundai! Does it come in CNG?

Hyundai has been seeing its sales declined as it doesn't have enough crossovers and SUV to feed the growing demand by consumers. This, in turn, is causing profits to drop, making investors disappointed. Because of this Hyundai is going crazy with cutting costs.
Reuters reports that Hyundai's cost-cutting measures include reducing the number of business-class flights, annual trips for overseas workers to see family, and cutting back on fluorescent light bulbs.
"We're trying to address a mismatch between the market trend and our product line-up. That's a longer term plan. For now we're trying to save every penny," said a source.
Hyundai is working overtime to get new crossovers out the door starting with a B-segment model in 2018. In the meantime, Hyundai is redirecting exports from low-demand markets to the U.S.

Audi is the latest automaker to tease their reveal for Detroit Auto Show. This is the Q8 Concept which will be going into production in the next few years as the brand's flagship SUV.
Up front is a large, octagonal grille and narrow headlights. The side profile features a coupelike roofline and bulging fenders. Audi says the design is reminiscent of the famed ur-quattro coupe from the 80's. We can see some of it in the side, but not in other areas.
“With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige. What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line,” said Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte in a statement.

Study unlocks new segment for the full-size SUV category Spaciousness of an SUV with elegance of a coup Distinctive front end, with design echoes of the Ur-quattro Audi will start the new year with a sensation: At the January 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the brand will debut the Q8 concept. The study represents a synthesis of the emotional styling of a coup and the spaciousness that typifies an SUV. With this move, the brand is unlocking a new segment for the full-size category.
“With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige,” said Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte. “What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line.”
The concept’s front end is imposing. The octagonal Singleframe is considerably wider than that in Audi’s current production Q models. Enhancing the forward positioned stance, is dynamic three-dimensional sculpting. Many design elements of the Q8 concept are reminiscent of the Audi Ur-quattro of the 1980s. They include the extremely flat but very wide C-post and the prominent, flared shoulders above the wheels. These balanced proportions give equal emphasis to the front and rear wheels – typically quattro.
More information on this exciting new concept will release during the NAIAS Audi press conference, January 9, 2017 at 8 a.m. EST.

Hyundai Motor America is on the hunt for a new CEO as David Zuchowski has been fired today. Automotive News broke the story this morning after learning from sources about the change. Hyundai has confirmed Zuchowski's departure this afternoon and said W. Gerald Flannery will take over as interim CEO. Dealers were told about the decision last night and employees were notified earlier this afternoon.
Zuchowski joined Hyundai back in 2007 as the U.S. sales chief and would become CEO at the beginning of 2014. Sources tell Automotive News that Zuchowski was fired because he was unable to meet internal sales objectives. Hyundai was one of the few manufacturers that saw success during the 2008 recession. But in the past few years, Hyundai's growth has been dwindling.
2010: 24 percent 2011: 20 percent 2012: 9 percent 2013: 3 percent 2014: 1 percent 2015: 5 percent 2016 (so far): 1.3 percent The reason for the shrink in growth comes down to Hyundai being weak or not having crossovers in certain segments. As we reported last month, Hyundai will be adding a new subcompact crossover in 2018, followed by an even smaller one. Also, the Santa Fe lineup would see some changes. However, it wasn't enough to keep Zuchowski as CEO.
“We appreciate Dave’s decade of service to Hyundai, especially his leadership as president and CEO, which has made us a stronger organization. I look forward to working closely with our dealers, affiliates, senior management and our talented and hard-working employees across the country to realize Hyundai’s full potential,” said Flannery in a statement.

      W. GERALD FLANNERY NAMED INTERIM PRESIDENT AND CEO OF HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Dec. 21, 2016 – Hyundai Motor America today announced a continuation of a reorganization that began late this year by appointing W. Gerald (Jerry) Flannery as interim president and CEO, effective immediately. He succeeds Dave Zuchowski who will be leaving the company.
Flannery, who has been with Hyundai since 1987 and is responsible for all legal matters in the U.S., will retain his duties as Chief Legal and Safety Officer. He is widely recognized as an authority on automotive product liability, regulatory and safety matters. His immediate focus will be enhancing the company’s brands, accelerating change for growth and customer satisfaction opportunities in the U.S. market.
“We appreciate Dave’s decade of service to Hyundai, especially his leadership as president and CEO, which has made us a stronger organization,” Flannery said. “I look forward to working closely with our dealers, affiliates, senior management and our talented and hard-working employees across the country to realize Hyundai’s full potential.”
Since joining Hyundai during its infancy in 1987, Flannery has been instrumental in leading the company through periods of rapid change and positioning it for steady growth. Recently, he created Hyundai’s first safety office in North America. Previously, Flannery was a senior attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at Ford Motor Co.
A search for Zuchowski’s replacement will begin immediately.
