Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

Maybach’s newest model has been revealed ahead of its world debut at the upcoming Dubai Motor Show in a couple of week’s time. The car is a new semi-convertible version of the 62 saloon that officials will be calling a concept, but a limited production run of just 20 examples is all but confirmed for early next year.

The new model is based on the current Maybach 62 but adopts a sliding roof over the rear compartment. The Landaulet design was made popular in the early part of the century and is basically a regular sedan with a fabric roof-center that can be folded away. The car also gets a revised interior with a removable glass panel dividing the front and rear quarters. Power will come from the same 612hp V12 engine shared by the regular saloon.

A certain unscrupulous UK publisher has taken it upon itself to again leak photos ahead of their release date and since we don’t agree with their behavior we won’t mention them by name, however it won’t be long until official pictures are out so stay tuned for full high-res shots.

The Sixteen makes this look like a Hyundai XG350.

Great idea though, a Landaulet.... love the 1930s throwback concept but that

big ugly pillow on the decklid looks like @$$.

For As much as these things sell for, you think they could have found a way to hide the top.

Considering the price the car should give you a B.J. and do your dry cleaning.... without being asked.

Maybach is one of the most useless brands in the auto market today. Mercedes would have done better to take an S-Class sedan, stretch it, add in ultra-luxury features, and call it a day. These cars look like stretched/distorted Mercedes sedans. I think this is why the brand has not performed up to Daimler's expectations. Bentley and Rolls-Royce have history and market recognition as well as distinctive designs that do not resemble products offered by their parent corporations' other brands. The Maybach brand was revived due to German ultra-luxury brand envy and serves as a monument to someone's out of control ego. Daimler was jealous because BMW and VW snatched up Britain's ultra-luxury brands and they were left out in the cold.

splash decals on the doors... you know to complete the look. :P

They're supposed to build 62 of them

Will that be enough? I mean, once all the Middle Eastern princes and oil executives get theirs...and then there's the Sultan of Brunei...

Well, I take that back. They'll probably have about 15 left over, give or take.
