Another bummer

Recommended Posts

I'm going to have to give up one of my Malamute pups. They have started to fight and draw blood on each other. I did some research online last night and it seems that they aren't likely to get over it - ever. It can be controlled with intensive training and forced separation but they could never be trusted without supervision.

That wouldn't be fair to them or to me. So, with great sadness, I'm going to have to choose between them.

Anyone else feel like their life is 100% :banghead: ?

I'm so sorry, Camino. Unfortunately, some dogs just have personalities that don't mesh well, like people. It's a natural instinct that is very difficult if not impossible to break. And with the size of the dogs, you risk getting seriously injured if you need to break them up. I hope that whichever dog you decide to part with, that he ends uo in a home as loving as the one you gave him.

hey, there's a guy here that might want a dog, and directly above my post is a post by him :)

I will post my potential pair of labs found during a South American vacation at another time.

I take it a Malamute is similar to a husky or sled dog, right? I would have expected this from a pair of pit bulls or Presa Canarios, but not this kind of dog.

You have to do what's right for the dogs...and for you. Making the choice will be hard. How about parting with both of them and starting over so you won't encounter cognitive dissonance? I know - easier said than done.

I feel for you Camino.

It's been one thing after another for a bunch of us this year.

Wow... sorry to hear that Camino. :( That really sucks, the choosing part will be difficult I'm sure.

Yes, I absolutely, positively feel like banging my head against a wall, actually that's very mild compared to what I'd say if I really expressed how I feel. Spent most of the day yesterday fighting with Macria. Nasty, bickering and poisenous mood. Very upset I left to go pick up some stuff foir work down in Cambridge and half way down I got a call from her apologizig and saying we should have a fresh start... not to the day but the relatioship. Thsi was a marked improvement over the "I hate you get the F out of my life" crap form earlier.

We watched the Island (awsome movie!) finished up our project and went to bed, except about 5 minutes later I was saying things I now regret and Marcia was screaming at me, again.

You know I'm depressed when the sight of a classic 50s car does not put a smile on my face. :nono:

I had no idea that I had set myself up for trouble until I read this:

http://leerburg.com/2dogs.htm

I spent about 4 hours reading that site the night before last and it seems pretty clear that raising two pups from the same litter causes the problem I'm having.

Individually, both pups are progressing well, but together for a even a short time they start to growl and posture and if not separated they will fight.

It all depends on breed. We often had 5 Westies together with no real problems. The mother and her 4 boys would play fight, but not really do any damage. It was kind of funny to see, but the mother was the referee. Whenever two of the boys would play fight, she would follow them. If anyone got too angry, she would step in and stop it. They respected her as ref, and things never got out of hand.

that's 'cuz when Momma says stop, she means STOP.

Anyway sorry to hear about everyone's troubles. All I could say is not to worry, things will get better.

I spoke with the breeder today, he gave me the # of a woman in NJ who had been looking so I called her. She had just found a pup 2 days ago but gave me a # for another woman in DE who works with a Malamute rescue who put the info. out on the web. An hour ago I got a call from a guy in WI who wants to come get one of the pups!

Not all worked out yet, but damn, what a fast response!

Crossing my fingers.

Hey bud, best of luck to you in finding a good home for one of the pups. I can't take one, I'm not ready, plus I'd need a small dog.
