Land Rover News: Land Rover Trademarks Road Rover Name

A new report from Autocar says that Land Rover has filed a trademark application for "Road Rover". It could be that Land Rover is keeping prospective or like-sounding names under their umbrella, not leading to a new model. But in the case of the Road Rover, there might be more to this.

Back in September, we brought to the light the Road Rover project. This model is being aimed at the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and is reportedly being developed alongside the next-generation Jaguar XJ. As the name suggests, the Road Rover will focus primarily on on-road performance but still have some off-road chops. Power is expected to come from a set of electric motors.

Autocar says the model could debut at next year's LA Auto Show.

Interesting idea. Well, as long as it helps keep the XJ in production.

However, I do worry about the blending of the two brands.  Some of the latest LR SUVs are pretty close to the new Jaguar SUVs in terms of look and feel.

I don't get it.  Jaguar couldn't sell sedans, so they start making SUVs, because people want SUVs.  And now they have Land Rover with their 100 years of SUV building or whatever it has been, wants to build a full size sedan, at a time when full size sedans aren't selling too well.

And some Subarus have frameless door glass, so totally a coupe    Who knows, if SSCs (SUVsedancoupes) are the Next Big Thing, maybe Jeep will do something...like a modern descendant of the Eagle sedan. How about a AWD Chrysler 300C based model w/ more ground clearance and the 7 slot grille...too bad they don't still make the Dodge Magnum...an updated version w/ fender flares and more ground clearance, could be Dodge or Jeep's answer to the Buick Regal TourX, etc..

I think it is time to bring back the AMC Eagle SX/4 Sports Sedan Coupe.

Or Convertable edition too.

I've always wanted one of those Eagles, with the straight 6.  The Sunchaser convertible is way cool, IMO.
