  2. How about a Ram based sedan? Truck based sedans or SUV based sedans are clearly the next niche to be exploited, with traditional sedans going away.. https://www.carscoops.com/2018/05/aznom-atulux-coachbuilt-ram-doesnt-know-truck-suv-sedan/

  3. Saw this GMC Truck on the way home yesterday. In pretty decent shape for it's age, sad it has the door dent. Clearly still used as a daily driver.

  4. Hyundai's N performance division has its eye on building a hotted-up Kona. Albert Biermann, head of the N sub-brand tells Auto Express that he has asked engineers to begin work on a test mule. Biermann also revealed what engine could be under the hood, a turbocharged 2.0L four from the i30 N. “I’ve told them [the engineers] to build the car and we’ll see what happens with getting it approved. It has to be the i30 N powertrain, really. Of course, we can give Kona different specifications on suspension and steering, although there are some common components we can use in that area as well, because it’ll be front-wheel drive, like the i30 N. But we already know that it has to be that car’s engine and gearbox for the Kona N, yes,” said Biermann. Emphasis mine. Hyundai's top brass needs to give the green light to make the Kona N a reality. We're assuming by building a test mule, it may give N some leverage to possibly make it into a production model. Auto Express says that the Kona N would use the 250 horsepower variant of the turbo-four, and not the 271 horsepower version available with an optional Performance Pack. Source: Auto Express

  7. Volvo has managed to reduce core components of their engine lineup substantially while still offering differentiation between vehicles. Every engine is the same basic 2.0 liter 4-cylinder, and then by adding turbocharging, supercharging, and electric motors, they have everything from a base XC40 with 248hp all the way to a top line S90 Plug-In hybrid with 400hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. .... but the basic block, cylinders, and side accessories are all identical. It's a product planner's wet dream.... and I expect a number of other manufacturers to pursue it.

  8. @Cubical-aka-Moltar That RAM SUV totally rocks. Makes ya wonder why RAM has not done something sooner. Course then we have the CUV/SUV's of the past. Makes ya wonder how long before a Camaro or Mustang CUV will come out when we had a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Concept like this:

  9. It looks like they're still using the diesel for direct physical propulsion. I've long maintained that the Volt should have used a diesel for its regenerator. Diesels are especially efficient hanging out at single steady RPM.... a task especially suitable for generating electricity to charge a battery or provide propulsion. They could have done a little 1 liter turbo diesel and probably gotten MPG over 90 easily.

  10. As he chats about here, I think Hyundai and others I think have an opportunity to differentiate themselves by exposing and optimizing the entire build to be as green as possible, I think there are a lot of consumers who would make that a big part of their buying decision even if they have to pay a bit more.

  12. Has anyone seen the movie "I, Tonya?" Interesting take on things. Except for her hometown and its environs, most of America didn't like her and thought she was culpable and a joke. This movie paints her in more of a victim of circumstances light. She was that - the smoking waitress mom who had many husbands and had no problem just whacking her across the face at least weekly. The movie sort of makes you feel sorry for her but she also had a choice in the company she chose. One would think that, if she's in her line of work, she would ratchet up her diplomacy level by observing others and choosing better role models. She had the skills down. The movie cited that, after Clinton, she was either the next best known or most discussed name in the world for a while during those years. Also, you didn't take a dig at her in her hometown while that stuff was going on. I did and was glared at. Locals turned a blind eye to the gravity of it all, swept it under the rug, and went to bat for Tonya (no pun intended). When I saw this, I figured it had to be Niagara Falls, ON and not Niagara Falls, NY. Niagara Falls, ON has some high real estate prices (glanced at a throw away home magazine - whew) while Niagara Falls, NY changes into a place down on its luck once about 5 to 10 blocks inboard from the falls. Most of the amusement venues are on the Ontario side, as are the nice hotel towers and good buffets.
