Heavy key chains break Chevy Cobalts. It is such a wonderful car aside from that though, after decades of wonderful examples of GM FWD cars that would make anyone a fan.5 points

It explains the burr up his butt when it comes to electric cars.4 points

lol GM couldn’t even make ignition switches properly and people here say Hyundai is somehow bottom of the barrel...4 points

A bit before my time, but my sister remembers that era (she graduated from high school in '75). I do remember the early 80s Jordache ads with Brooke Shields.3 points

Ah, hashtaging for the Millenials and their Instagramming. Personally, I prefer the sarcasm html tags--- <sarcasm> </sarcasm> around the text that is intended to be sarcastic.3 points

The 2018 Escalade's 6.2 liter is the truck engine of the 2014 release of the LT1 in the Corvette Stingray. Its also called a Gen V of Chevy small blocks Gen IV were the LS engines. Gen III were the LT engines again. No...the Gen V small block LT is NOT a Gen III LT small block. No...the Gen III LT small blocks have nothing in common with Chevrolet's original 1950s small block V8s... Yes...the Gen IVs are different from the Gen IIIs. Yes...the Gen Vs have some similarities to the LS based Gen IVs, but... All Gen V engines are aluminum blocks with aluminum cylinder heads and include features such as direct injection, piston cooling jets...something that the Gen IV LS engines do not have... The Gen Vs are...brand new and employ state of the art technology keeping them on par in technology and sophistication with exotic V8s from exotic V8 makers such as Ferrari... Mercedes V8s are good. AMG V8s are awesome. The Chevrolet Small Block V8...is legendary. You may not agree with this. But its OK. I, would love to see the new TT 4.2 liter in a new Cadillac product, in the Escalade though, I am more than happy to see a detuned LT5 under the hood. Why? Its a truck. Its the Escalade. 4.2 liter versus 6.2 liter. Twin turbo sure. Its good. 2.65 liter supercharger....think about that for a moment... Cadillac should always be about arrogance... Unless Cadillac puts 2 supersized turbos the size of 1 gallon paint, on the possible Escalade 4.2 liter to produce that 700 or so horsepower, I would prefer the 2.65 liter supercharger under the hood of my 'Slade. But that is just me. Trying to retain some American Muscle, Cadillac arrogance in my American automobiles...something that the dudes that run Cadillac should be thinking about as well...3 points

i guess GM ignition recalls are a non-starter here...2 points

LOL.... It's not 1975 anymore when Cadillac had the 500 V8 and Lincoln had a 460 V8...not sure if the displacement is relevant to most buyers today... the Navigator (it's main competitor) gets by just fine w/ a 3.5L DOHC V6.2 points

Back to cars - when GM stole America's heart with its frameless door colonnade opera windowed coupes ... which had great engines and great transmissions and could go the distance. 1975 - last call for round headlights, but still sold like hot cakes - enter the inline 6 ... there weren't that many around ... they were usually the loss leader advertised for $ 3,999 and had no a/c ... this same year, Olds also released the 260 c.i. V8 and was dubbing it the "baby V8." I think this was the last year for the bucket seats that swiveled out toward the door. 1976 - a good thing gets even better ... over half a million of this model alone sold ... this was a cool color and they also had the real dark burgundy called "mahogany" at the same time ... back in the day when you could pick from close to 20 colors, free of charge ...2 points

Expand or Die is a cardinal rule of capitalism itself. Sometimes it is better to stick with what you are good at. Ford apparently understands this. With Mary Barra, GM seems to get this too.2 points

I thought 2 years ago Brexit was a terrible idea. I don’t understand how separating yourself from the EU is better for business than being in the EU. This is like the tariff war we are in, that doesn’t help businesses. I think the next recession could knock out another 5-10 auto brands globally and these guys along with a couple of FCA’s are at the top of the list.2 points

Actually...after all of my ranting, rational and otherwise....the people I am left with some modicum of respect with in the whole automotive mess is....Ford of all people. they seem to have the opposite of the grow or perish Philosophy that pushed VW into the TDI scandal and Nissan into this. They seem to be focused on building cars that they want to build and are in their DNA to build-Bronco, Ranger, f150, Mustang, Edge and the like. They have fleet sales, but a lot of their fleet sales are things like the Transit lineup which are actually really decent vehicles. Not putting a Ford or a Nissan into my driveway any time soon. But I am liking Ford's thinking better than Nissans.2 points

I love small cars with funky cool designs though. Ohhh...and I found a current pic of that lady with the Cadillac in Balthazar's post... Maybe a bit better...2 points

I love you like a brother, but please refrain from making enlightened levelheaded arguments that make prudent sense. They don't seem to resonate here at C and G for some reason.2 points

True about that...though I have sat in Fiat 500s at car shows, and they at least had some charm w/ the dash design. As far as my dislike of small cars w/ gray interiors, I'm sure it's from some rental car experiences such as the lurching Hyundai Scoupe, the Dodge Neon with the worst out-of-alignment front end I've ever experienced, and a very loud red Chevy Cavalier 4dr... And all had gray Fisher-Price interiors and were 4cyls with automatics.2 points

Lets be honest, Fiat would never see you and I in them my friend! I pass on the Dallas Cheer Squad and go for J Pop instead!2 points

Yeah and the V6 is down 60hp and 100tq to the old-ass pushrod 6.2. Why would I compare that? It's a huge vehicle.2 points

I beg to differ. The Escalade is not one of those wannabe nimble track handling SUVs like a Porsche Cayenne or Lamborghini Urus or BMW X6... The Escalade is the original (Lincoln Naivigator is truly the original) large land yacht SUV... Kinda like how 1960s Lincoln Continentals or 1970s Cadillac Fleetwoods used to be... That is why the Escalade sells... People want and love their big land yacht Cadillacs. The Bentley and Rolls Royce made their Bentayga and Cullinan in the Escalades image... Because Bentley and Rolls Royce never abandoned their floaty land yacht images...unlike Cadillac. But you see, the Bentayga has got a (as its top engine) a 6.0 liter and the Rolls Royce has a 6.75 liter under their hoods. Both V12s. But it dont matter. Both are 6.0 liters and above...and for a reason... Even Mercedes Benz with their GL class SUV has got a 5.5 liter as its biggest V8 offering in theirs. For Cadillac to go with a 4.2 liter in their Escalade would be a mistake in my eyes... The irony (and hypocrisy) of today's world is this: At a time when electrics are gaining status more and more in the market place, at a time when everybody has gone "save the planet" and view the internal combustion engine as the Devil, the world seems to not want to let go of V12s and V8s....especially in high displacements... The Challenger rides on a 20 year old platform, yet the world has gone bonkers over its 2.7 and 2.4 (Demon and Hellcat respectively) liter supercharger on top of a 6.2 liter V8 and continues to sell at a voracious rate... The Scatpack at 6.4 liters is also revered... Let us not forget the Jeep version of the Hellcat... Ferrari...Ferrari has dropped a 6.5 liter V12 in their latest GT sports car. UP from 6.3 liters... 6.5 liters...in a Ferrari... Remember this logo? Yes...it belongs on a GTO...not a Ferrari GTO, but a muscle car Pontiac GTO...in 1967... A 6.2 liter V8 with a 2.65 liter blower attached to it in the Escalade would be a very welcomed status symbol... A better status symbol than that: EV Escalade.2 points

This should have had the the suicide doors... If I was Lincoln, I wouldnt be spending the engineering costs on a vehicle they are about to kill off, Id be spending the dough on this Aviator and Id demolish the competition with it... Oh...as a hater of CUVs and SUVs...I LOVE this one!!!2 points

My sister Heather drives a Navigator. She did not buy it for Fuel economy. People dropping eighty grand on a rig like this are not persuaded by a half a mile per gallon. This is the answer to Dwight in the other thread about Tarriffs. Without some level of free economic competition things never get better.2 points

I find the smell of diesel covers the smell also...I do the same with the Norfolk Southern tracks here in Columbus. And I am into import performance....the Fart can is a feature not a fault. I love really spicy food that makes you feel like you are going to melt the porcelain of the toilet when you finally do manage to (rather rapidly!) find a bathroom. I think I could have you seriously beat here with this.2 points

THIS is how you pronounce Impala: I'd rather have it be pronounced withOUT that exhaust note, but the car itself is in impeccable shape. This had to have been the most provocative Impala ever as well as one of GM's most unforgettable models. And, back then, they could actually spend the money to change cars to some degree each and every year.2 points

In all fairness there is no comparison betwern Hyundai and GM. GM has built tons more remarkable vehicles than Hyundai.1 point

In a similar vein, I've heard jag-U-wahr, jag-war, jag-wahr and jag-wire (I go with the 3rd). Aw-di and Ow-di (I go with the first). I've heard Bon-UH-vil and Bonnie-vil (I go with the first)...1 point

Or is it jag-WIRE? That's how I've heard it pronounced sometimes in regards to the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team..1 point

This Mercedes is not that much better. Not as ugly, but not far from Panamera ugliness. Between the two? Ill think Ill pass... The Porsche Taycan however, would be something Id consider. If you wanted me to choose an ICE vehicle from Europe. Id go for a Maserati GrandTurismo. About the same price, slower, not as roomy...oh but that sound that V8 makes...and you got to admit, the GrandTurismo is sexier that all of them, Taycan included!1 point

Im not surprised. GM has brought this upon themselves too... Starting with, what is good for GM is good for the country. GM became too big to fail. GM then became complacent and arrogant, much like some Canadian provincial and federal Premiers and certain American Presidents...and well, you get cutting corners on ignition switches and bailout fallouts and closing factories that really piss off people.1 point

I'd cheer for the Patriots before I'd ever cheer for Dallas. This does bring up an interesting topic for a thread---what car would I never, ever drive, even around a parking lot? I like to think I'm open minded enough to drive anything, even just once or as a weekend rental. Though I have a strong (possibly irrational) dislike of compact or subcompact cars with cheap gray interiors.1 point
-
Yes, definitely not underpowered. Powerful, obese, spacious, comfortable, fast. Sounds like the Aviator should be plenty fast also.1 point
-
Absolutely! And it isn't like 450hp/500tq(whatever the exact numbers are) in either the 'Slade or 'Gator is a slouch by any stretch. They're still low 14's vehicles.. That's damn quick for vehicles the size of a house.1 point

Haven't seen any pics of the new Escalade undisguised yet, so I'll withhold judgement. I do like the new Navigator.1 point
