  1. In a series of tweets today, Trump announced that General Motors will be selling their Lordstown plant to electric truck maker Workhorse. Lordstown was shut down in March of this year and formerly built the Chevrolet Cruze. The details of the plant sale have not yet been announced. Workhorse is a Cincinnati based company who builds EV pickups with a built in range extender, similar in concept to the Chevrolet Volt. Workhorse's sole model is the W-15, capable of driving up to 80 miles on a charge before a gasoline powered range extender kicks in. It uses two motors to provide all-wheel drive. The only configuration available is an extended cab with 6.5 foot bed. They can tow up to 5,000 lbs and have a payload of 2,200 lbs. Pricing starts at $54,500 before tax credits. Workhorse intends to start production for the retail market sometime in 2019. Fleet orders have already started. GM is not denying any of the information in the tweets from Trump. Update: General Motors has confirmed that talks are ongoing.
  2. Unemployment isn't merely "low", it's incredibly low. U-6 unemployment (those who want a job but stopped looking) is also at the bottom of a downward trend- it was 11-12% in 2015, it was 6.9% in April.
  3. What leads you to this opinion? And it may well be accurate, but then don't all government-sourced numbers fall under suspicion? If the current U-6 is actually 14%, was the 2015 number then actually 24%?? WHen it was reported to be 17% in 2010, was it actually 35%? Can you eliminate a sub conscious desire to see far worse economic numbers due to a personal opinion of current Government officials? Are you hoping for a sharp downturn? I am positive most government numbers incorporate a degree of inaccuracy, but I believe the bulk of such errors are simply ineptitude. But I question whether even the federal gov't would purposely tweak a public number by anything close to 100%.
  4. I believe that those two are going to get a refresh very soon.
  5. I was a 1992, 1995, and 1998 Dakota buyer/owner, the first with the 3.9L V6, and those that followed having the 5.2L V8. I distinctly remember reading reports that the 3.9L's origin was a 5.2L (318ci) V8 block sans two cylinders. It's a bit amazing to learn that Dodge got so far behind Chevy and Ford with development of its own new mid-size pick-up. I believe that the new Ranger is going to be a solid seller in the truck class, so a 2022 debut of the new Dodge/Ram midsize is gonna leave it playing a big-time catch-up game, especially if the Colorado/Canyon gets a refresh in that time.
  6. See? Proof positive that fins provide directional stability at high speeds, just like Chrysler claimed. Look at that Ford tumble…
  7. And a Golf starts at $20k... what are they smoking? Plus they do the Beetle and Golf a GREAT disservice by placing this boondoggle in line with those two true icons.
  8. Before the electric truck, they built step vans (former GM model) going back to '98, and RV chassis, apparently Navistar owned them or part of them at one time.
  9. I wonder if GM will sell the plant to Workhorse for $1. I read that Workhorse had $736k in revenue last year, and only $38 mil in losses, or something like that..market value of $109 mil. Saw that they were a penny stock, had a big surge today. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/08/trump-tweet-sends-penny-stock-workhorse-surging-by-more-than-50percent-crashes-website.html Smoke and mirrors? GM clarified they are in talks..nothing concrete announced yet.
  10. I don't know how Workhorse, which has been losing lots of money, is going to afford to buy the plant much less keep the lights on. Lordstown was greatly underutilized when they were building ~250k Cruzes a year there. How many trucks can Workhorse think they're going to sell with no dealer network.... even at that price.
  11. Polestar is doing the same thing with launch pricing.
  12. GM has knocked their diesel crossovers to FWD only, AWD is no longer going to be offered in a diesel. Just one step closer to death. I imagine the diesel doesn't make it past the next refresh.
  13. It would be more expensive to build, and the styling aspect might meet with some resistance, but using a vertical A-pillar with a sloped/wrap windshield would GREATLY increase roll-over protection, visibility and ease of entrance. They can talk about high strength steel all they want- but the severely sloped A-pillar is an insurmountably weak design.
  14. I'm personally at 20 years without a vehicle payment since I paid off my '94, but that's 'ME' - my wife's last 2 cars have been on time (with a gap in between). I bought my '04 (in '06) for cash.
  15. You realize that is units for sale, not units already in the hands of owners, right?
  16. Jack these babies up a few inches and NOW you're really talking Buick Crossover Coupe
  17. Jack these babies up a few inches and NOW you're really talking Buick Crossover Coupe
  18. Yeah, I went without an auto payment for 12 years until I got to the point my old Jeep was too worn out to keep driving.
  19. Coming soon to the crossover bazaar Buick Entropy Buick Enthalpy Buick Entrail Buick Enterprise (Starship Edition!) Buick Envention (See what i did there?)
  20. Mazda is positioning themselves as a manufacturer of cars for other brands. I'm half surprised that Toyota didn't partner with them for the new Supra. I think Mazda will survive. Nissan and Renault need to consolidate their companies into one. They're running as separate entities and could stop a lot of overlap with a true merger. China hasn't figured out the US market just yet and with unpredictable tariffs being thrown about, they may never do. The only way the Chinese quickly is via another manufacturer like Volvo.
  21. i'll never have another frameless glass vehicle. ear slicers.
