  2. Of course, and it was pointed out numerous times. But, as per SOP; ignored.

  3. ^ Interesting, isn't it, that the vast vast majority of Cadillac nameplates thru their history were numeric-based.

  4. Next week would have been the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, home to debuts of lavish super and luxury cars. But organizers of the show announced yesterday that the show is canceled after the Swiss government announced that it would be banning gathering of more than 1,000 people due to Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. "We regret to announce the 2020 Geneva motor show will be canceled. This is force majeure," said a spokesman for the Palexpo show venue. "The show cannot be postponed. It's not possible. It's too big. It's not feasible." "We regret this situation, but the health of all participants is our and our exhibitors' top priority. This is a case of force majeure and a tremendous loss for the manufacturers who have invested massively in their presence in Geneva. However, we are convinced that they will understand this decision," said Maurice Turrettini, chairman of the Geneva Motor Show foundation board. The announcement comes after a week of organizers being adamant that proper care and screening before traveling to the show, the virus wouldn't be a concern. A number of automotive executives and other officials weren't fully buying this and decided to skip the show. What changed was the first reported cases of coronavirus in Switzerland that happened in the middle of the week. One of the confirmed cases was from someone that travelled to Italy - a place that is currently suffering one of Europe’s most extreme outbreaks of the virus. On Friday, Switzerland's Federal Council convened to decide a course of action on Coronavirus which amounted to the ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people. The ban will apply at least to March 15th. It is unclear whether or not automakers were notified of the decision before being announced or not. What we are expecting is most of the debuts to take place online or at other auto shows. If you want to know what was going to be shown at Geneva, Roadshow has put up a guide detailing the various debuts. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required), Geneva Motor Show THE GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW IS CANCELLED! The 90th edition of the GIMS, which was supposed to welcome the media from next Monday and the general public from 5 to 15 March 2020, will now finally not take place. This is an injonction decision of the Federal Council of 28 February 2020 that no events with more than 1,000 people are allowed to take place until 15 March 2020. The decision falls 3 days before the opening of the exhibition to the media. The organizers accept this decision: "We regret this situation, but the health of all participants is our and our exhibitors' top priority. This is a case of force majeure and a tremendous loss for the manufacturers who have invested massively in their presence in Geneva. However, we are convinced that they will understand this decision," said Maurice Turrettini, Chairman of the Foundation Board. We would like to warmly thank all those involved in the organisation of the 2020 edition of GIMS. A few days before the opening of the event, the construction of the stands was very nearly complete. A week ago, during the press conferences announcing the 2020 edition, there was nothing to suggest that such a measure was necessary. The situation changed with the appearance of the first confirmed coronavirus diseases in Switzerland and the injonction of the Federal Council on 28.02.2020. The event is cancelled due to this decision. In the meantime, the dismantling of the event will now have to be organised. The financial consequences for all those involved in the event are significant and will need to be assessed over the coming weeks. One thing is certain: tickets already purchased for the event will be refunded. The organisers will communicate about this as soon as possible, via their website.

  5. Classic Cadillac names for me that I love are Eldorado, Biarritz, DeVille, Fleetwood, Brougham, Seville....I'd love to see these names over the current acronyms...older names like Series 70 or Series 61 are so far before my time as to have no resonance.

  6. Actually, with Mercedes the naming scheme prior to the early 90s was a 3 digit displacement number followed by one or more letters (or not). The WXXX are internal generational platform codes, not model names. (like the W126, W140, W220 were three generations of the S-class)... WXXX codes are like GM's codes for the trucks, like GMT360, GMT400, etc.

  7. Agree that it is interesting. 1965 is when they started to change over to names I see. Though Fleetwood was assigned behind a number before then. I also thought that Mercedes-Benz use of predominately WXXX for so long before changing up with AXXX, BXXX, CXXX, EXXX and SXXX https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mercedes-Benz_vehicles Interesting that they had a few FXXX in the 90's but never used DXXX. ? Wonder why? This pretty much proves @smk4565 is wrong about going CT# or XT# is Cadillac coping German brands! ?

  8. Does Cadillac REALLY need a UX competitor when the XT4 does nicely? NOW, a GLS competitor (based on Omega or its successor) would do very nicely. Besides, a RWD crossover (not a BOF Escalade) would be a good complement to the Cadillac family of SUVs.

  9. Neither the UX or NX compete very well against the XT4 : UX : 177", $32.3K, 169 HP, CVT NX : 182", $36.8K, 194 HP, 6-spd XT4 : 181", $35.7K, 237 HP, 9-spd

  10. CVT is totally inappropriate for a luxury brand.

  11. My family lived in a couple of different homes within walking distance of some of those places shown along that freeway route. I believe I see 5 lanes. Now there are 6 or 7. My dad used to complain that there was so much traffic on the 405 at off peak hours ... but it was flowing. Now, with 6 or 7 lanes, it can be gridlocked at random times throughout the day. The 405 is literally the biggest "Memory Lane" in my life. I think I probably drove on it every day from the time I got my license up to my mid-20s when I was in town / at home.

  13. Traverse. FWD, V6, largish family car....Tahoe kind of fits the old Impala formula up through '96---full size, BOF, V8 large family car.

  14. It won't cost a lot of money for GM to make a Cadillac XT3 out of existing parts. Cadillac could easily do an XT2 at 170" long and $29,990, and XT3 at 175" and $33,990 or something along those lines. Just like they could do an XT7 easily as well as either an Omega platform SUV, or a fastback roof, coupe style XT6. All this stuff is in the parts bin somewhere.
