  1. Met a guy today (at a safe distance), talking cars, said he had a '75 Stingray. My Buick and it's basic specs/intended power came up. He said he wanted around 500 HP and his car should be really quick because it weighed 2200 lbs. My ears perked up. Me: "I don't think so, buddy. That's Vega 4-cyl weight." Him: 'That's what the registration says." Me: "Do you think the DMV schlub behind the counter cares if they get it right?" I look up the full specs via the phone : coupe's curb weight in '75 was 3529. Shouldn't you know your vehicles specs if you're an enthusiast? - - - - - I love the 'twitch of surprise' when I first meet another car guy who asks me what car I have, and I say "59 Buick". They first seem surprised at the age of it, then there's the confusion when they have no idea what one looks like.

  2. This week, Hagerty obtained a document from General Motors' executive director in charge of program management, Michelle Braun that says development on future car and truck programs has been paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But the document also mentions some intriguing information on upcoming powertrains for the C8 Corvette. Here are the details, Corvette Z06: 5.5L DOHC V8 known as the LT6 that will produce 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. No mention of any type of forced-induction. Corvette Gran Sport: 6.2L OHC V8 with a hybrid system that's expected to produce 600 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Corvette ZR1: Twin-Turbo 5.5L DOHC V8, dubbed LT7. Output is expected to be 850 horsepower and 800 pound-feet. Corvette Zora: The powerhouse of the C8, it will take the Twin-Turbo LT7 and augment with a hybrid system. This is expected to produce 1,000 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Hagerty's report says the rollout of the new engines will begin in 2022 with the LT6, but the COVID-19 outbreak may push the plans back. Source: Hagerty

  3. Yup, Oldsmobile seat. This is the Buick Regal Limited seat design, with the "pillow" at the top of the seatback. I also think this Regal may have been optioned with the dark brown/sandstone two-tone 45/45 seat option, per the brochure, and we are looking at a dark brown and tan, not red interior. The fading, coupled with color variations in the photo, are easily misinterpreted.

  4. Buddy picked up this fire-victim '72 parts car for his '71 Gran Sport project. Not much on it, but reselling the frame alone should have him break even on it. Wasn't sure whether to put this in the 'spotters' thread, or the 'beautiful cars' thread. Tossed a coin :

  5. I related this once before. I know this occurred before '92, which is when my buddy moved out of state. Parked on the side of the road for sale was a maroon Buick Skylark (X-Body). So it was an '80-85 car; not all that old. There was absolutely nothing special about it, it had no signs of any work done to it. I swear it had 2 doors on the driver's side and 1 on the pass side. It was NOT the case that the rear door was welded up- it had the coupe's longer door on that side. At the time, I thought 'how could the factory have mated a coupe and a sedan body stamping together THEN actually let it get out the door?' No pics of course, and the gelled memory is growing fuzzy. But we both circled the car and were like 'WTF??' There must've been something else interesting parked next to it, otherwise we'd never have even glanced at it. Then again, my buddy owned/drove a Citation 4-dr liftback for a while.... maybe it was his fault.

  6. They need all wheel drive if they are adding power otherwise it won’t get to the ground. The Z06 is probably the limit of 2 wheel drive. They said Zora was 2025 model year, I assume it will be low volume, probably really expensive but why not go that route. Good money maker to have a low volume high price version. I have a big question on LT7 reliability. Yes you can get 850 hp from a 5.5 liter if you rev the hell out of it, but I have to imagine that is going to be Ferrari like reliability and maintenance costs. I wouldn’t be surprised if every 25-50k miles there was a $10-15,000 service due.

  7. ? The tan seatbelts with the faded maroon seats, buckling plastic dash and fake plastic wood with the Maroon when new, now brown carpet and the falling apart drivers door panel along with all the pine sented trees that would tell me it has a water leak mildew problem. Plus who the hell would put a blue dash with blue plastic piller pieces with a maroon seat and carpet. ? Plus is that an oldsmobile steering wheel I see?

  8. Nah that's a Borgward Isabella. Borgward was a German company. They went out of business in 1961. It's a pretty neat little car.

  11. I like the '21 Escalade 'luxury' trim with the bright grillework. Cadillacs should be shiny. The '90s monocromatic 'sport' version doesn't look great, IMO.

  12. I must concur. The new Escalade front reminds me of the current XT4 and the current XT6. The interior is what will sell the SUV for most people.

  13. I am not, Body side molding such as what was on my 1994 Suburban which I removed are for lazy people who have no respect for other's auto's IMHO. Respect others auto's and expect the same for yours. Even with that said, I can say that my SS has gotten a few door dings and I have spent the money to have the door ding specialists remove them to keep her perfect. Part of auto ownership and the nice clean look it gives the auto when you look down the side. Over all I am glad the ugly rubber ribs down the middle of the side are gone. They did not help the look or flow of an auto. Like @oldshurst442 said, if ya got a new auto or your a bit OCD like me, then you park out far away from the lazy people who do not respect others auto's and ding them.

  14. One man's 'cool, funky, I know what they call the acres of randomly slathered cladding' is another man's 'forgettable, transverse / FWD generic appliance shitbox'. What a disjointed, schizophrenic design, apparently by the same folk that bring you these:

  15. I like Citroens and French cars in general. That 'airbump' trim on the C3 is similar to how the 1st gen C4 Cactus looked. The new C4 Cactus moved the trim down lower and made it smaller..
