  5. This week, Hagerty obtained a document from General Motors' executive director in charge of program management, Michelle Braun that says development on future car and truck programs has been paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But the document also mentions some intriguing information on upcoming powertrains for the C8 Corvette. Here are the details, Corvette Z06: 5.5L DOHC V8 known as the LT6 that will produce 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. No mention of any type of forced-induction. Corvette Gran Sport: 6.2L OHC V8 with a hybrid system that's expected to produce 600 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Corvette ZR1: Twin-Turbo 5.5L DOHC V8, dubbed LT7. Output is expected to be 850 horsepower and 800 pound-feet. Corvette Zora: The powerhouse of the C8, it will take the Twin-Turbo LT7 and augment with a hybrid system. This is expected to produce 1,000 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Hagerty's report says the rollout of the new engines will begin in 2022 with the LT6, but the COVID-19 outbreak may push the plans back. Source: Hagerty

  9. Yeah, this cop was actually pretty cool said he had no choice and his hands were tied due to the city bureau policy. Basically, his supervisor would be looking for the citation or he would get written up. Pretty sh!tty.

  10. That what was said above and the Zora will be a hybrid electric. Meaning...it will have electric motors boosting that power to 1000HP. How many electric motors? 3? Maybe 4? Well...undoubtedly, like @William Maley said waaaay above there in the beginning...IT WILL BE AWD... But its nice to ignore all logical posts by logical people when some of us have a goddam biased agenda around here... And it gets tiring... PS: We know NOTHING about the ZR1... just that it will be a TTV8 possibly the 5.5liter and perhaps it WONT be a flat plane crank. Perhaps Chevrolet engineers will have a traditional mechanical AWD system for it? Maybe like @USA-1 was suggesting what the C8 platform is capable of with its suspension geometry and sticky sticky rubber wont need AWD? The Z06 I believe will have active aero. The other trims, ZR1, ZORA will most likely have it too... I am not sure about the Grand Sport, though. Suffice it to say, the C8 platform is a monster...

  11. Yeah...Montreal cops do that too. And yes...what you said is logical that most busy metro area PDs have this as standard protocol. They are there, they were called, they might as well "earn" their work effort of being called to a scene of an accident that could have been solved by just writing up a joint accident report otherwise... Like you said, its revenue so they might issue a "failure to control your vehicle" ticket or an "obstruction of traffic" ticket or some other bullshyte bylaw thing they could write you up for. But in Montreal...that kind of thing is rare. Well...Montreal police and Quebec Provincial Police (The SQ) have other ways that trap you into tickets. This way is not a favorite of theirs. But like @dfelt said...its really a safety net to protect oneself.

  12. Ownership costs will still not be like Ferrari or AMG maintenance. I was waiting to see if you'd catch it. The Blackwing LTA V8 that the LT6/7 are based off of is a Hot V TT V8 like the LT6/7 will be in the C8 for packaging and reduced lag. Not new territory for the General. Either way, these engines are going to be awesome in the C8. Traction won't be an issue with the Z06 as the base C8 has so much grip that guys are having a hard time getting the tires to spin to do burnouts with the 500hp LT2 with all nannies off. That's also why they moved the engine to mid ship...for better grip in the back. The Z cars and Zora will have wider, stickier Michelin PS Cup 2 tires as well.

  14. Boosting engines (SC or TT) is definitely not new territory for GM. Recent past LSA and LS9 and current LT4 and LT5 are all modern boosted GM engines, with superchargers, but none-the-less boosted and they've been reliable engines. They've made a V8 Hybrid Tahoe/Yukon/Silverado/Sierra not that long ago ('08-'13) so also not new territory. I've driven a 2013 Tahoe Hybrid 6.0L V8, it was very smooth and quiet with a seamless transition between the two electric motors and the ICE V8, didn't sell well enough as it was too expensive for the time when the standard Tahoe started at $36k Hybrid started at over $50k, battery tech. just wasn't there yet. GM builds their LS/LT V8 engines to require minimal maintenance, including boosted setups. Ferrari's do require a ton of maintenance and they build them to that spec.

  15. Not currently, but they've done it before- it's not a challenge or 'new territory'.

  16. Problem with that logic is that when police get to the scene and it's a non-injury accident and they determine who was at fault, that driver will get a citation for "failure to control your vehicle" if they can't determine who was at fault (like a sideswipe) they will give both drivers a citation for the same infraction, happened to a buddy of mine here in Phoenix. It's standard protocol for most busy metro area PD's. They do it in Dallas and LA and probably NYC as well as others, it's mostly about extra revenue and 100% ?

  17. For tech companies that do not own their commercial property, I can see this becoming a reality as leases come up and yes that means a crash in commercial property. I know the 7 story building I work in for Dell Tech our lease is up at the end of the year. I can see the bulk of the 1,200 tech employees working from home. I still expect a physical office presence due to customer meetings. My gut tells me that Dell will go from 7 to 3 floors in our building by the end of the year.

  18. I realize you said “for many”, but the same circumstances that are keeping people working remotely from home are also keeping a huge swath of people from working AT ALL. There are tens of millions of reasons to go back to the so-called “old way” (of a mere 2 months ago).

  19. Yes it is. It would open by hand but because the actuator was so stiff from bad hydraulics, it was a pain to manually open and close. It was the only thing that was acting up when I bought the car and this far has been the only issue during this time. I can’t lie though. Having a power lift gate is nice, especially when my hands are full.

  22. I don't have a problem with the Mach E- AS LONG AS the Mustang coupe/covert remain, and remain IC. I'm going to scope out the Mach-E (not to buy) when it finally comes around. Likewise, I'd be fine with a CUV Camaro AS LONG AS the coupe/convert IC core models remain. In the past I would've cried 'heresy!' but perhaps the Camaro / Mustang just aren't that close to my automotive heart.

  23. ^ excellent post. I’ve said it before; because it’s ‘General Motors”, even an article about the Camaro seemingly MUST involve sales numbers in some degree of damning light. Like the Camaro should be selling 250,000/yr in order to be a ‘success’. Read an article on any of the other sports cars mentioned above and you just won’t find the same tone directed toward them. IMO, the Camaro could sell 5000/yr and I’d still vote for it to continue production.

  24. Happy Post Earth Day. Have to say that the benefits of the pandemic with making more people work from home has been awesome. Cleaner air, less noise, more life/work balance. I truly do not see any reason for things to go back to the old way of doing work for many. Less congested cities too. Course a surplus in office space could happen. I have to agree with the bullet points made about diversity, time and people that working remotely allows. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/04/22/earth-day-working-from-home-commuting-coronavirus/ This story has a picture of crossing the Evergreen Floating Bridge and how clear it is and the Olympic mountains showing. Amazing as it is usually packed and now so open.
