I have met several Korean War veterans who swear by their Hyundais. The South Koreans have been our friends.3 points

hyundai - after the years of pushing sub-standard junk at cutthroat prices here at their start- should earn scorn & disdain for a solid quarter century, regardless of their current quality level.3 points

I remember in my neighborhood in Phoenix an older Hyundai XG (predecessor to the Genesis sedan) w/ the license plate KRNBCK (Korean Buick?). Had a 'Korean War Purple Heart' license plate frame. And to throw in another angle, Hyundai has the N-sub brand for performance...--2-3 models in Europe so far, 1-2 in the US... The new Santa Fe looks quite nice inside.3 points

Actually, the CT4 is larger than both the 3 series and C--class...comparing the CT4 to those RWD/AWD sedans makes a lot more sense than comparing it with the FWD appliances..3 points

Love the 80's square body myself. Parents had an Emerald Green 2 door '93 Blazer before they changed the name to Tahoe in '97. Great truck for towing our ski boat. Similar to this...2 points

While the K5 name is not Optimal, it is a good looking car inside and out. GM, Ford and Chrysler have given up on too many segments, while the Koreans just keep plugging away, winning customers. This is a neat little car, comes with a lot of stuff (including nav) for about $25k, plus that famous long-ass warranty.2 points

Finally got my new Facia for the Cobalt...and for the first time in like 13 years, it will now have an LS bumper on the car instead of an LT bumper...... ? Gotta get everything done before winter.......2 points

Had stripped/ painted the trunklid hinges & torsion bars, reinstalled yesterday. Been working on prepping some of the dash panels for painting- primer/sand/prime/sand sort of thing. Still pondering sending off interior bits for rechroming... the costs are high but they aren't going to get any cheaper... ? EDIT :: Put trunklid back on and the trunk 'receiver' catch in (it was cleaned & zinc plated). I believe I still have to drill the package shelf speaker bolt holes... and I have already-made panels that will block off the view of the back of the rear seat (the 3 trapezoid holes seen in the above), so I'll knock that off the list, too.2 points

Guess again...and it's new from Ford. Something to be said about the venerable, reliable push-rod V8 https://www.dieselhub.com/specs/ford-7.3l-gas-v8.html NASCAR is ancient tech.? Ah no, better study up! Here's some to start. https://www.sportekz.com/motorsports/nascar-race-car-cost/2 points
-
I was thinking specifically of Ford and Toyota. They don’t have pushrod V8s in their car lineups today...NASCAR is just about marketing for the automakers...the technology is ancient, they still have 4spd manuals and only recently got fuel injection. I can't imagine automakers get much out of NASCAR that is applicable to production vehicles..2 points

Today a NASCAR racer is about 3200 lbs with 4.22 gears. In '67, the minimum car weight was 3500. Having trouble finding period axle ratios but seeing '64 Plymouth with 4.30 gears. Compression then was commonly 11:1. A lot of similarities in the specs. The monster advantage today is insane aerodynamics. I looked around for period vs. modern cd numbers with little luck. A '69 Charger Daytona has a cd of .28, but as power & speeds rose, NASCAR utilized increased downforce, which also raises the cd. I'd still bet "air management" is the biggest difference in then vs. now.2 points

I haven't been in / don't know anyone with a 'K5', but I can report the Malibu 1.5T is anything but "useless". I drive my wife's car quite a bit, and frequently find myself out-accelerating all other traffic & doing 80. Perhaps it's just this singular car, but it hauls ass with ease. 450-mile moving window of MPG says 33.4 as of today. It had 1 repair (2016, 46K miles)- the start-stop didn't restart I think 2 times, other than that it's been a very nice lil sedan.1 point

I’m a bit confused myself, as I have a good friend whose family is Korean, and say pretty much verbatim what David says. Different cultures see different things. Like my German friend who happens to hate VW.... ? Based on their current products compared to GM, I would now would put the twins just below GM, and creeping up faster every day. Kia already has two products that I would say would be better than GM’s.... the Soul (against the Trax) and the K5 (against the Malibu). While we love our Trax, had there not been such a good deal on it- Good chance a Soul could have been in the driveway. The Malibu suffers behind the K5 in a few ways: Simply dated, and that useless 1.5 that they keep using for it. The 2.0 should have been standard.....1 point

WOW, you truly to do not read the actual info, but read bits and make assumptions. As I said being married to a Korean which gets me a much closer look into the community here in the US and Korea due to family, I am only reporting how the Koreans see Hyundai / Kia. I NEVER SAID I was an Oracle, but thank you for giving me some god like status. While GM has made major improvements in some areas post Bankruptcy, there are others where they need to still make major improvements in. Same with Hyundai / Kia. Interiors are Subjective to each persons taste and yet no one auto company is hitting nothing but home runs as we all have stated here and that includes GM, but lately FORD is really hitting the recalls as is Toyota in comparison to GM or Hyundai / Kia. J.D. Powers is a snapshot in time, a short time but as is showing recently, the last few years Hyundai / Kia have been hitting better than average compared to even GM.1 point

For a laugh, most definitely. I believe there's one coupe model (Polara, maybe) where the trunk lid is longer than the hood. When I was a teenager, I knew a lady from Oklahoma with cat glasses and a thick accent who drove one. She was a character and you'd almost have to be one to pick out one of these from the car lot.1 point

This makes sense when I think about it. I don't know the materials that went into these cloth seats but it seems the base models with bench seats and no armrests had plaid seats or these ribbed fabric seats that felt like a backpack or almost like plastic, respectively. Then, if it was the better model, such as a Caprice over an Impala, and had an armrest, the cloth had a better feel and sometimes they managed to inset a metal (?) emblem into the seatbacks, the armrests, and/or rear speaker between the seats. I may be wrong but it seemed like it was about the mid-70s when there was an avalanche of much nicer cloth seating, almost a certainty in the up line models, and even though one might think it was fragile, it held up well for 100,000 to 200,000 miles of sitting on it. Which leads me to wonder why one reads furniture reviews about sofas from known manufacturers where the fabric cushions give out in 1 to 3 years. Again, less is more. I agree with you on this. Also, one could order the better model in a series to get some nicer features (more comfortable seats, alloy wheels, etc.) and keep it within reason by not putting every imaginable pimpy option on it.1 point

Generally-speaking, yes. But 425-450 HP in 1964 still pushed a block with the aerodynamics of a brick to 175 MPH on the track. These were large displacements (limited to 427 CI), circa '70 the large motors flirted with restrictor plates to compete more evenly with the 300-some CI motors coming up. 358 CI became increasingly common and soon; the displacement limit.1 point

The Ram 700 has been around since 2014 as a restyled, FWD-based unibody Fiat product. This is a new version of it. The Mitsubishi Mighty Max was a RWD-based, body-on-frame pickup built from 1983-1995. Totally unrelated to each other. Of course I love the single cab version of the new Ram 700. I would buy one if it had the 1.3t 4 from the Renegade, and an uplevel trim package of some sort. Are you sayin' you're POPPIN' FRESH?1 point

Per this report, FCA is going to start production on the Ram 700 for Central and South America. This is the all new replacement for what FCA has lived on for decades as the rebadged Mistubishi Might Max pickup. The Ram 700 is on a Global Platform that some believe would indicate that FCA could be jumping back into the compact Pickup Market . Next year we get the 2022 Ram Dakota for the mid size market. The Ram 700 would allow them to also jump into the compact truck market before GM and on time with Ford releasing their compact truck. Bed is designed for a natural partition system. https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2020/10/could-the-ram-700-foreshadow-something-smaller-for-north-america/ Amazon Prime day starting tomorrow at Midnight. https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/products/best-amazon-prime-day-deals/1 point

yeah, we've done ok with ours front only, except when the OEM crap Michelins wore out early. We put Toyo all weather snow rated tires on it for last winter and it improved it. But to me to provide the buyer a choice and let them decide is the best thing. The sales guy i worked with for this test drive said another woman had purchased the van i did come in to look at first, she saw it had all wheel drive and jumped on it fast. They had had 4 of the AWD in stock and 3 of them got sold fast, right away. People are responding to the AWD availability. I wish the Camaro had AWD available. I totally would be ok with an AWD Camaro as a daily driver, v6+AWD would sell well and help keep the Camaro line profitable in order to keep making the big RWD v8's. Not having that option means it not a daily driver choice for someone like me in winter climes. The van having AWD available makes it a legit option compared to crossovers for many now, I assume.1 point

I wanted to wish the Canadians on the forum a Happy Thanksgiving (celebrated the second Monday of October). And wish a Happy Columbus Day to anyone who celebrates it. I do. I'm thinking there won't be any parades in Little Italy neighborhoods anywhere this time around. But one can always pop into an Italian bakery.1 point

Friend/co workers family custom ordered a hugger orange Monte Carlo from Chevrolet about 1970.....I think the rust monster eventually ate it, but on the road and lots of fun for several decades. I actually like some of the plainer cars of the sixties better than their upmarket cousins.1 point
