EV Blinders? Have you looked at my posted auto's I own? Escalade ESV Platinum, Trailblazer SS AWD, Suburban SLE, Durango 4x4, My son has added a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. No EV Blinders, but just looking at the technology of the auto industry from my computer engineering view of where we are going and having tested and spent considerable time in both auto's what fits me, what clearly gives me more room and allows me to be comfortable. Being an owner of full and Mid size SUV's I feel I have a good feel for sitting in an auto and saying this is comfy or this is tight. I am glad you love your Focus and have been in a Range Rover and G-Wagon. Keep in mind at 6'6" tall 280lbs and very muscular as a retired body builder, I am far more bulky than most. Put this up against the average US standards of 5'8" 165lbs for guys and hopefully you can see how I do have to take my bulk into account when I see how roomy one auto is over another. Enjoy the banter and your contributions CCAP41. Hanz and Franz are here to PUMP YOU UP!!!

Having spent plenty of time in a Murano as a car pool buddy and in the Bolt, it is not shit, but how I perceive the visibility of the designed auto with how I can see out of each auto. To each their own. You enjoy the Murano and I will enjoy the Bolt.

Industry News: Analysts See A Quick Rebound In Car Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Yup clearly stated in both the gov web site and the cars.com web site. Washing of titles. crazy. -
Agree with so many options coming in 2018 and all stating 300+ miles, that this 150 mile range is DOA. I also have to say that I am not impressed with a 225 mile 60 kWh battery for the Long Range. I think Nissan Blinked and got scared so they have rushed the Leaf 2.0

Nissan News: 2018 Nissan Leaf Boasts More Range and Lower Price
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Nissan
As I posted here: I think with all the options out there that many will rethink their leaf 2.0 purchase in regards to others that have better battery range. My gut tells me that those waiting for version 2.0 will be about 50/50 split as that battery and range is not that great. They could have really put away Tesla and followed the SAE standard rather than their own stupid charge port and put in a decent long range battery. This is too little for version 2.0. -
Industry News: Analysts See A Quick Rebound In Car Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Interesting, just learned that many norther states do not have these laws like the south as to why gently used auto's with low miles end up north and end up with issues due to being a flooded auto. https://www.cars.com/articles/2014/09/storm-surge-beware-of-title-washed-cars/ With this I then found the gov site that covers this and even it states some norther states do not follow branding of an auto. https://www.vehiclehistory.gov/nmvtis_consumers.html What a crazy interesting world. Sad for auto buyers since it is buyer beware. -
Industry News: Analysts See A Quick Rebound In Car Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Based on the stingy way insurance companies are paying out today, I suspect only 50% of these auto's will be replaced with new ones. I also suspect that many of these will find their way to the north and be resold as a clean low mileage auto. Buyer Beware! GOV should require all the auto's be crushed. -
No Joke, you can take two similar recliners and while they might look the same, depending on the materials used, the padding and the underlying way the seat is designed. Two different people will have two different experiences of comfort and ease in those chairs. Same goes for the auto industry. two cars with the same seat measurements and yet the design of the chair, side supports, thigh supports, etc. can all affect the comfort and room that is perceived by two different people in the same auto. Putting both the Bolt and Murano seats all the way down, and all the way back, when I sit in both, the more upright BOLT has more headroom for me. The curving roof of the Murano cuts into the headroom and I end up having my head against the liner. They might supposedly have the same headroom from the center of the seat to the roof, but the way they apply the interior headliner and the over all design of the roof can actually have vary big affect on people especially someone large like me.

Thanks for posting these, Interesting to see that the S & SV trim will have the 40 kWh battery pack for 150 miles and in a year you can get an SL trim with a 60 kWh battery estimated at 225 miles. I think many Leaf customers will consider the BOLT. Yes many will stay with Nissan but others will say nope, not waiting another year to get 225 when 238 miles of BOLT power and room is already out on the lots. GM needs to either add AWD to the BOLT since there is space in the back between the wheels and behind the wheels or add a larger battery option. Either of these two will really help the BOLT I believe. Have to agree with Motortrends final statement: "Another questionable call: clinging to the CHAdeMO standard for fast charging. Maybe it’s stubbornness, maybe Nissan’s got a giant investment in this thing, but CHAdeMO is a dead plug walking in the U.S., and Nissan would do the EV cause a big, fat favor by finally adopting SAE (or everybody going to Tesla’s standard)."
-
Depends on the person doing the measuring and on their own body size they feel is standard. Longer body, versus shorter body and the design of the seat and seat mount, the seats in the Murano do not go down flat to the floor, the BOLT seats go down and bottom out on the floor allowing more room. Every auto company uses the same term, head room, shoulder room, hip room and yet where they measure that and the design of the seat and mounting hardware and how the seat is positioned all makes a difference. One can easily make all cars have the same measurements when in fact they do not. FOR ME, The Murano has far less room when I sit in it than the BOLT. All Auto's I have to put the seat down to the bottom position, all the way back. I AM A LARGE GUY. The BOLT has more Room for me than a Murano especially in the Headroom department. I get the point of you pointing out the reported measurements, but the real world test of me in each auto proves different. Quality American Made equipment was industry and world wide leading and we have lost the art of building quality products. Sad

Interesting write up and some very valid points. Big Failure of the writer is research. A level 3 fast charge will give the BOLT 80% of the battery in 30 min, full charge in 45. Yes Level 3 fast DC chargers are rare on the east coast and midwest yet easy to find all over the west coast. Like anything when auto's came out in the early 1900's and were expensive and gas stations rare to find. Charging time will come down, distance will go up on the battery packs. Read my response my little blu friend, the writer missed a big part of the charging, everyone only hangs on Level 1 & 2 from home, they ignore the fast charging Level 3 out there now and the Xtreme Fast charging Level 4 that is being rolled out. XFS brings a 350 mile battery recharge down to 8-15 min depending on the type of cell used. This is on par with fueling an ICE auto.

Good for the auto industry, but makes one wonder who will end up with a Lemon due to not all of these auto's getting crushed compared to some idiot who cleans up the auto and sells it to an unsuspecting person outside that area. Wonder if there is a buyers list of how to check for a water logged auto? -
August 2017: General Motors Co.
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Sales Figure Ticker
I get ya my friend and agree, in many ways Benz is better than what Lincoln has had or currently has. Continental is a big disappointment to me. Talk about a tight car that is just way too tight and small on the inside for a car this size and under delivers in so many ways. Love the look but they really failed to deliver I believe.- 191 replies

August 2017: General Motors Co.
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Sales Figure Ticker
I see Benze as another Tier 1 to 10 in trying to be the all things to everyone from ubber 1/10th of 1% crowd to the bargain basement just starting out crowd. As such, I no longer see them as a Tier 1 only Luxury auto company. They have joined the ranks of being a GM, Toyota, Ford company. As such, even BMW now is not longer a luxury only auto company. That is the point that SMK seems to never be willing to accept and acknowledge. Does Benze make luxury auto's? Yes, Do they make entry level cheap auto's? Yes, that changes them from a Luxury only auto maker especially here in the states.- 191 replies

Fiat News: No One Wants To Take FCA Says Marchionne
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
Guy's just as I posted this new Auto startup this morning: I honestly now see a good chunk of existing financially weak ICE auto companies going out of business and I really think FCA is going to be one of them. As I think we are all in agreement on, I can see Jeep and Ram surviving, but the rest of FCA is up in the air. Rereading the full story at Reuters, Sergio is just trying to get through to the end of 2018 and walk away with his millions in a gold parachute and let FCA live or die. The company is going to have to have a strong CEO that will own up to the fact that some divisions have to be closed and others properly righted. I can easily see Alfa, Chrysler being closed and maybe even Dodge. Realistically they need to merge Fiat and Dodge as one car company. Keep it named Fiat in Europe and Dodge in the US or if they want, kill off Fiat and Dodge and move all the product under the Alfa name plate. I can see a Jeep, Ram, Alfa & Maserati or Jeep, Ram, Dodge & Maserati or Jeep, Ram, Dodge & Alfa. Everything else is merged and cleaned up to get them down to the SUV brand, Truck Brand, entry level to mid level car / van brand and the Luxury brand.- 35 replies

model 3 long range Tesla Motor Club Pictures of Model 3 Long Range
G. David Felt posted a topic in Tesla
Tesla Motor Club Pictures of Model 3 Long Range Seems that the Tesla Model 3 Long range car is to have a 310 mile range with a 126 MPGe rating according the picture above. This is 131 MPGe city and 120 MPGe highway. This is in comparison to the Chevrolet BOLT with it's 238 mile battery pack, 119 MPGe rating. Course this still does not beat the Hyundai Ioniq which is the leader with a 136 MPGe rating based on the 150 MPGe City and 112 MPGe highway for it's 124 miles battery pack. Yet this does show the direction we are going as we see more EV's enter the market place. I believe in a year from now, having an EV with a mid 250 mile range battery pack or a long distance pack of 300+ will become very much the norm. Tesla Motor Club -

MB does not compete with Lincoln either, more inline with Toyota, Chevrolet, as the cheap ass CLA and other low end models and FWD appliances prove that especially the garbage appliance EV that was sold and still being sold in California.- 191 replies

G. David Felt - Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.cheersandgears.com Morgan Stanley's Research Group say's Expect 1 Billion EV's on roads by 2050! No matter how one feels about ICE or EV's the market is in flux and the strain is going to be felt by the financially weak auto companies and auto suppliers. Morgan Stanley's Research group predicts that many existing part suppliers could be replaced by new startups. The story on another web site has the following 3 interesting quotes: “We have modelled the global car fleet out to 2050. We see global car sales growing by 50% to over 130 million a year, and expect battery electric vehicles to make up 80% of global sales by 2050. Looking at the global passenger car fleet as a whole, BEVs make up 7% of a growing fleet by 2030 in our base case, rising to 24% by 2040 and 57% by 2050.” “For the OEM business model , BEVs are a game changer. Up to 50% of the value of the car could migrate from mechanical to electrical systems and electronics, and this transfer of power could challenge OEMs’ competitive position, branding and pricing. Our modelling of an illustrative OEM transition from ICE to BEV drivetrain suggests that price and volume pressures could push down ICE profitability sharply from 2021, as new BEV products cannibalise sales and pricing power, with potential for losses from 2028. BEV losses peak in our model in 2023 before production ramps on new model launches. The range of profitability outcomes is wide.” “Margin pressure is likely to be passed down the supply chain. Moreover, OEM suppliers for the powertrain, transmission and fuel systems face loss of content – much of the electrical / electronic systems in an BEV could be supplied by new competitors. On the other hand, technology change and outsourcing are typically opportunities for OEM suppliers.” With the German auto companies spending billions over the next few years on EV auto's, the world is in for a rapid change of transportation. Are you ready? electrek

Web site Electrek believes Tesla will make up 50% of the global EV market in 3 years with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y pickup. https://electrek.co/2017/09/04/tesla-model-3-model-y-global-ev-market-report/#more-50960 Due to the Gigafactory, many are believing that Tesla is going to take a commanding lead in the EV market even as many other established auto companies enter the market with product.

Fiat News: No One Wants To Take FCA Says Marchionne
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Fiat
What Idiot Serfio is not saying is no one wants a Crap company that he ran into the ground in trying to bring back Alfa a worthless auto brand in a market of too many name plates and no real value. FCA cannot spin off Alfa / Maserati as they would die quickly without the cash being stolen from the American nameplates.- 35 replies
