Would You Rather a 2017 Chevy Volt or a 1997 Acura Integra
oldshurst442 replied to oldshurst442's topic in The Lounge
yeah...I forgot... You are the jolly green giant. Green being a pun from the Random Thoughts Thread... But you are a giant. Jolly. I am not so sure...you seemed quite the angry giant when you talked about the Acura being garbage. -
Correction: I forgot to include a word: Coupe DeVille is what actually means Town Car. DeVille by itself just means "of the city(town)" Coupe of the city(town). Sedan of the city(town).

Would You Rather a 2017 Chevy Volt or a 1997 Acura Integra
oldshurst442 replied to oldshurst442's topic in The Lounge
Well, I dont know if you ever driven an Integra before...if you havent, you missed out. An Integra was anything but an appliance. From its high revving 4 banger that could be revved to no end, to its 4 wheel independent suspension...yes...all around independent with front unequal length control arms rather than struts on a small econobox of a car that weighed not a whole lot makng it a very tossable little car in the corners. 140 horsepower. The GS-R had 170 and the Type R had 190. Not a whole lot of torque, about 130 ft.lbs but that was not what the Integra was engineered for. It was meant to be a fun car to drive hard to rev it high and to toss it into corners. And it was all that despite it being FWD. Add to that a very precise 5 speed manual transmission and a super smooth engine and you got yourself one very fun car to drive daily. My cousin used to own one. A 1995 "special edition" which he later traded it in for a 1999 GS-R model. I hated both then. Now I reminisce and say to myself...wow! What was I thinking dissing this???!!! Remember, in the mid-1990s... This was GM's answer to that The 3.1 liter V6 out-torqued the Integra, and maybe had 15 horses more, but the Grand Am only looked the part that it was sporty...I know, I bought a 1994 4 door GT with my dad. The Quad 4 version? Yeah....let us NOT go there!!!! Especially when we are talking about Honda 4 cylinder engines of the 1990s... Hey...I LOVED that Grand Am...it was OK for what it was from GM in 1994 that was NOT a Corvette or F-Body or Northstar STS. GM lacked a lot in the mid 1990s. Even a supercharged 3.8 Grand Prix did not match the sportiness of that Integra...4 wheel independent suspension...front unequal length control arms to maximize tossability...good luck in finding a set-up like that in the 1990s at GM from ANY car let alone at that price point... Maybe a Vette? Maybe an STS? I dont think the F-Bodies had that kind of corner carving inspired suspension set-ups... The Cavalier Z-24? Or the Beretta GTZ? As I said....not even the division the builds excitement could match a lowly Integra...There was a Lotus tuned suspension from Asuna in Pontiac dealerships that GM Canada peddled in Canada that might come close though... As for the second part...the EV autonomous part..\ There is some loosely based truth to what I said...but I posted that mostly as shock value to spark up conversation... Take that part with a grain of salt...laugh or get agitated by it...just talk about it and mostly choose a car. Pick a side. I think me defending the Integra the way I just did, the way I remember driving it, the way my cousin thrashed it...I think my mind is made up. -
Not even close. Im afraid its a tad more dirtier than that though!

Would You Rather a 2017 Chevy Volt or a 1997 Acura Integra
oldshurst442 posted a topic in The Lounge
The strangest of thoughts came to me today when I went to pick up my daughter from the bus stop this afternoon. It wasnt at the bus stop per se that this vision and thought popped into my head, but rather at the grocery store parking lot when we stopped to pick up a few items. What I saw is this: A shiny new fiery red Chevy Volt And parked right behind it, was an Acura Integra. Dont know what year it was as miniminal changes were made during its lifetime, I know the front clip was refreshed, and this particular car was of the pre-refreshed front clip...but my memory eludes me to when this happened so that is why I went with 1997. Sounds good when I wanna compare it to a brand new 2017 model Chevy... It was just a regular Acura Integra, with the regular 1.8 liter 4 cylinder. Black. It too was shiny. In very good condition taking in account that it is a 20 year old car from Quebec. Some rust. But nothing major. This is a stark contrast between two very different cars and vocation. But, I saw similarities that I thought would be fun to talk about and compare and contrast and ultimately choose one over the other for whatever reason you fancy. One car is a very sporty 2 door "entry level" luxury car based on a very very econobox car that is very very econobox itself despite its mid-level luxury name plate even for then, but its a joy to drive, even in regular trim while the other is an econobox car for today that has luxury features that even the high end Acuras of the 1990s did not have. Also, the Chevy Volt has an interior that could pass off as a mid-level luxury car branded model as where the Integra...does not. Its also an electric car that has 4 doors. It also does not drive sporty like the Integra but it does have its own driving thrills. This will be fun as this is a GM site. But this GM car has the workings of the devil for some of us as its an electric car. Also, EVs of the future are gonna be autonomous so choosing the Volt is somehow choosing a future for autonomous vehicles... The Integra...well...Its Japanese. Its a rice burner. 4 cylinder glory that ricers loved to rice up with huuuuuge fart cans and huuuuuge rear spoilers with their baseball caps on the side while boring us to death telling us how VTEC just kicked in bro! But it is a pure enthusiast machine and by golly, if we are to get autonomous cars for the future, the Integra may very well be THE last car to best represent, in the future for the future, the way cars used to be...fun to drive for everyone.... Discuss. And choose. -
Yeah...but the REAL question is...what is green and smells like pork?

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS Brings the Inline-Six: Comments

My very sentiment explained beautifully by Frisky. Well...in the other thread regarding this car, I was more critical of it. Ill just be a tad more positive of it in this thread and just keep it to "not much of a fan of the styling" as Frisky said.- 11 replies

No...not even go back to the STS and CTS stuff. Yes, STS & CTS flow better than CT6 & XT5 and when one says CTS-V or STS-V its a million times better than CT6-V but, Escalade and Escala, and Eldorado and Cien just sound so...elegant and high class and...this is where Cadillac's heritage comes in...ARROGANT. I dont necessarily want to go back to Fleetwood or Seville or Deville. Those should be retired. Fantastic names, but lets use new ones. Names like Eldorado is where its at. El Miraj is a fantastic name too. Arrogant and elegant all at the same time. Plus, its sounds like a Middle Eastern Oil Sheik could feel pride in driving around in. Eldorado...nothing beats THAT name in elegance and opulence and luxury and it literally oozes with arrogance. Escala is cool as that too, sounds like elegance, in a Spanish kinda way, like Eldorado and...Seville. But Seville is outdated. Deville was a French name which was nice for the time. It literally means Town Car in English. Which Lincoln retired. Hint hint. Back to Lincoln. Continental is such a powerful and stately name. That is why Bentley uses. That is why Lincoln used it a long time ago. Nautilus. I like it. Good for a mid level luxury SUV. No bring on those actual names, Lincoln. Make Cadillac pay for ignoring their own rich history and heritage!

mitsubishi phev Mitsubishi Converts their 100 Year Old Model A to PHEV

Or it could be a thing. Hey Jersey Boy? A little jealous are we of our West Coast cousins? Just kidding around. Yeah....that is horrible. I used to dig what they did, but I heard about some horror stories that has made me think twice about their...um...credibility and workmanship. -
Wow! What a mind blowing concept that is! Its not as if there was any outcry by enthusiast fans in all kinds of automotive forums across North America. Or any proof of how soccer moms and bling bling daddies show affection to their Cadillac ESCALADE...when talking about their...ESCALADE...(or Mustang or Corvette...) Its not even how when Lincoln introduced the name plate Continental is gonna make a comeback that even foreign car lovin' US autojournalists lips salivated the way the name Continental flowed from their lips as opposed to Cadillac's first ever CT6... All I want for Xmas from Detroit this year is the announcement that Cadillac will now copy Lincoln and go down this same path...

That is also cool. Traditional wedding rings symbolize love and eternity and when one a couple exchange wedding rings, they are exchanging their love for each other forever...or something to that effect. This tradition is awesome, but it has become too generic. I could see why a couple would go down an un-traditional route. Getting married today with all kinds of crap that life throws at you does seem like a battle! I like that your buddy and his wife chose a very personal and dear thing that they do TOGETHER and symbolize that for THEIR wedding!

2019 Lincoln MKC Clips Its Wings: Comments
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Same here. Always was able to parallel park anything that I was able to legally drive that I was licensed for. Parallel assist? For wicked blind spotted vehicles? Sure...not only useful...but helpful! I learned how to parallel park a similar ride. The only windows I had to go with when backing up were these at the back, and the side mirrors. Talk about blind spots... I feel that our society does not take enough time to teach and practice good, safe and necessary driving skills to avoid killing ourselves on our roads. We spend an enormous amounts of money trying to solve the riddles of how to make our cars safer, how to introduce all kinds of safety features and electronics and nannies and ultimately make our cars drive themselves...yet we have NEVER EVER TAUGHT OURSELVES PROPERLY HOW TO DRIVE PERIOD! In all the human intelligence thrown into our safety regarding cars, we have ignored the most basic one of them all...to teach ourselves how the phoque to drive! We are willing to throw all kinds of data to self driving cars, yet we never gave that much attention to ourselves... Ironic on so many levels...- 34 replies

I would choose neither...like Cubical said. If I was buying from GM, I too would rather the Encla- Hold on, as I read deeper into the thread, I came across the mentioning of this automobile. If Im buying a family haulin' hatchback type vehicle from GM, I am doing it the Buick Regal Tourx way!

I dont know how in the hell we do it! Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary...even Quebec City. I dont know how these folk do it! Montreal does not have it as bad as those cities... The State Minnesota almost gets that cold too, right? I think the lyrics to this song is how we do it! Hey ho, let's go! hey ho, let's go! Hey ho, let's go! hey ho, let's go! They're forming in straight line They're going through a tight wind The kids are losing their minds The blitzkrieg bop They're piling in the back seat They're generating steam heat Pulsating to the back beat The blitzkrieg bop Body heat...baby! Body heat! I know that I helped plenty of ski bunnies keep warm many a frozen night. I now want to play the song, because I like pulsating to that back beat. So...hey ho...LETS GO!

Kia News: 2018 Kia Stinger to Begin At $32,800, GT At $39,200
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Kia
Yes! Yes! Most definitely does the name Stinger belong to a Mopar from the 1960s! -
My wife's 1.6 liter ecoboosted Fusion is almost as quiet as a mouse. Yes...its surprising why that is. For a ~3500 pound sedan powered by a measly 1.6 liter with an anemic (for its weight) 180 horsepower or so and not that much more torque numbers as horsepower numbers. Its good. And under full throttle...it aint buzzy either. I wouldnt call it throaty but it aint buzzy like how 4 cylinders use to sound like a decade ago. Especially domestic 4 cylinders. I mean...some Japanese 4 cylinders under full throttle do sound good! I want my muscle machines to be loud. I want the world to hear them! Yes, inside the car too. That philosophy goes with the fact that I also want my muscle machines to have loud and bright exterior colours. I want my luxury sedans to be quiet like a library. That is the distinction that I wanna make for what kind of loudness I prefer for my cars. As for EVs... I know how much noise induction motors make. If Im buying one, or converting an existing ICE car into one...then I have already accepted that what I am about to drive wont got a rumble to it! But then again...the last time I owned a V8 was in the mid 1990s. It was a tired V8 at that. In that time, Ive bought lame V6s, supercharged V6s, little 4 cylinders...I think its too damned late for me to lament the loss of the growl of a V8...

In pictures...the Stinger has intrigued me as of late. In pictures, I find the Stinger to be a good looking sedan. I stress "in pictures" because I got to see it in person first to let go of my own negative Korean car biases. But I do like the Genesis...so I dont know why I still hold this bias...I wouldnt buy one...but I like it! I see the Stinger more of a RWD Optima rather than a "Kia Charger" though. Not that that is bad thing. Whether I find its a RWD Optima or you view it as a Kia Charger. To be honest...I think its a GREAT thing that KIA and Hyundai are offering enthusiast machines. Yes Hyundai and KIA enthusiast machines are a work in progress, at least they are heading in an enthusiast direction. And heading in a good direction at that!
