Toyota News: 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan Drops the iA
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
• Wave of water? Sure; I've had that happen. NBD, it runs right off/ Rain-X/ wipers are on intermittent anyway. Never felt the necessity to panic-hit the wipers to full blast. Remember; I was already looking right thru my windshield, so I know what's out there even if obscured for a few seconds. • Wiper chatter? Very very seldom; I usually get comments from passengers I don't have the wipers running fast enough, not too fast. I just don't feel I'm yet helpless enough I can't address these few scenarios myself.- 39 replies

Well let's look at the hard data here in this left field fantasy. March 2018 X4 sales : 513 units. March 2018 Edge sales : 13,919 units. Chevy has this sporty lil CUV within 1 inch of an X4. It's called 'Equinox'. March 2018 Equinox sales : 31,940 units. Obviously, that's a real, tangible problem. By all means- spend 100 million, stretch it 4 inches, make it the amorphous and infinitely definable 'sleeker', and, you know; watch the sales sink like a stone... but 12 people FEEL BETTER about this new Equinox.... I guess because it's more like vehicles that far fewer people want to buy. Good Plan.

So there's an announced plan for the next 3 years --a new vehicle about every 6 months--, only the first one is out.... but it's time to talk about 2023???????????

Toyota News: 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan Drops the iA

* No- no aftermarket washer system- just wasn't done in my experience/knowledge. '70 GTO had a dedicated cut-out in the lower dash for the wiper switch, I believe they all had the push-function for washers. Yes- would've been twin metal nozzles aimed at the windshield from the cowl vents. • Looks like the Goat had a generic light-up bar on the speedo, right under '70', rather than the big car's Indian Head indicator. I've always maintained that GM de-engineered the A-Bodies from the full-size cars. • Just to keep this topical, the Yaris sucks.- 39 replies

Toyota News: 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan Drops the iA

• Only thing I'm aware of down in the left footwell is the headlight dimmer- same place it was for 75 years. I'm positive the washer was never foot-operated on Pontiacs in that era. My brother's '71 GTO has the dimmer switch there also. • I would guess that wiper switch was from the '74, font looks very similar to what was in my '72 Riviera. • I know that dome light well- dad's '70 Catalina had the same one. • I remember looking over his shoulder as he drove that '70 and looking at that red-lit Indian Head high beam indicator. I was sorely disappointed our '77 Cat only had a blue square. I believe Pontiac was preserving it's trademark- they took all Indian-logos off the outside after '55, but kept it as the high beam indicator until '77.- 39 replies

The Spark I was in was a base trim, and it was horrific. The Sonic in the driveway here is an LTZ, and it's a pretty nice teeny car; I know which one I've vote to discontinue between the 2. Plus, I'm surprised Chevy doesn't keep it for CAFE purposes.

I'm sorry; I don't get automating something you're looking directly at/thru. How could a driver possibly be unaware it's raining? IMO, having an 'object in trunk' monitor/warning makes more sense than rain-sensing wipers.- 39 replies

The separation factors have been trending more & more minimal- cars & CUVs on same platforms with same powertrains, more cars getting AWD... the definition is becoming more & more fuzzy. IMO, there's a TON of overlap and I can see merging similar size/powertrain vehicles into 1 vehicle rather than clinging to these minor separations, especially on the smaller end of the spectrum. For example, the corolla & the RAV4 : case can be made to build a higher hatched sedan with a 2.0L and kill off the other 2.

BMW codes it as a CUV by naming it with an 'X', and every reviewing entity out there groups & terms it a CUV/SUV. Your fav, Wikipedia, defines it as a "crossover SUV". Even BMWUSA calls it a 'sport activity vehicle'. Not seeing anyone anywhere calling it a 'car'... other than the BMW sales report. Simple physical form of the X1 supports all of this.

BMW has all along curiously placed the X1 under 'cars'... now the X2 is under 'cars' also. Move those 2 models back to 'trucks' and (proper) cars are down 15%. Nah, that can't be why they're doing it that way... - - - - - I would not remotely be surprised if OEMs moved to a system where the classifications ('car', 'truck') are dropped and everything is grouped together, especially as most of these small CUVs really are just tall cars with nothing in the way of truck capabilities.

I did something out of character for me.

Trucks rule and cars drool. -
Bumper looks a bit wide for that bed. Agree that it's neat (tho I've never cared for 'fenderside' beds on pickups past the mid 50s); these along with the retro 'Big 10' types a few dealers are building really show just how colossal the market for trucks has become.

Found on Craigslist: 1955 Buick Special 2 Door Hard Top
balthazar replied to ocnblu's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Have always hated 'baby blue'-eque colors on cars, even tho they're completely 'period' here. In fact; ALL the period primary pastels (yellows, greens, blues, pinks) are a turn off, IMO. Leno's '55 has one of the nicest schemes for this 2-tone Buick era, black / silver/ black ~ -
Of course; once Cadillac becomes competitive, the bar is automatically raised to "GROUNDBREAKING". Someone must be nervous their usual bar for the XT4 (sales volume) is too likely to be strong like the XT5 has been. There is no 'groundbreaking' in the CUV segment in any price tier. What- falcon wing doors?? Please.

>>“We have found F-Type R and F-Type SVR kind of compete against each other."<< Jag is a special kind of messed-up. >>"Seeing the R on a Jaguar model means one thing, high performance."<< And here I've been assuming it meant the jag owner had peeled it off a honda and stuck it on his car.

You have like zero peripheral vision; you're totally behind the B-pillar.

Are you 7 feet tall? The entire front seat back is in the 'back seat' area. The front fascia is clearly recognizable & nicely done, but that rear 3/4-angle could be any of a half dozen brands. I think I agree that the 1st gen was more distinctive & a bit more appealing (exterior).

Clean sheet redesign to improve a number of engineering aspects, in all likelihood. Cadillac's not wasting money here. Ironically, they did the exact same thing in the '60s; the '63 390 was completely redesigned but came out with the same displacement. I believe there a major component of the redesign was to allow larger future displacements, but there were other criteria.

The exact same way the e-class has a small back seat.
