American Honda year-to-date sales reached 1,011,247, an increase of 5.1 percent versus last year based on the daily selling rate. Honda Division posted October sales of 87,800, an increase of 20.2 percent versus last year. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for the month with sales of 24,344, up 8.8 percent, followed by the CR-V with sales of 18,040, up 19.4 percent, and the Civic with sales of 17,121, up 11.9 percent. The availability of the all-new 2011 Odyssey, in its first full month on the market, contributed to that model's increase of 52.2 percent for a total of 9,955. Overall, Honda Division light-truck sales increased 37.8 percent to 41,463. "The all-new Odyssey is off to a strong start in its first full month on the market," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The redesigned minivan brings the right balance of functionality, upscale features and fuel economy, just as the light-truck segment begins to gain momentum." Acura Division posted October sales of 11,011, an increase of 17.1 percent versus October 2009, and year-to-date sales reached 107,399, an increase of 25.3 percent. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 3,945, up 6.7 percent. Acura TL sales totaled 3,042, up 25.6 percent, followed by the TSX with sales of 2,251, up 1.6 percent. *The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 27 days for October 2010 and 28 days for October 2009. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 255 days for 2010 and 257 days for 2009. All percentages reflect DSR.

It was MMNA's fourth highest monthly total in two years. The 32 percent increase represents Mitsubishi's largest year-over-year percentage increase for a single month since July 2002. Year-to-date, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 1.6 million, up 21 percent – growing double the overall industry rate. Ford is on track to gain market share for the second year in a row – a result not achieved since 1993. "Increasingly, consumers are choosing Ford," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. "Ford's broad range of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles offer buyers value that endures for the life of the purchase and when they trade their vehicle." Ford has shown consistent improvement in vehicle quality and reliability for several years. For 2011, 90 percent of Ford vehicles tested average or above average in the Consumer Reports study. In the most recent J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, Ford brand ranked fifth among all brands and first among non-luxury brands. Ford's Balanced Vehicle Portfolio In October, Ford car sales were up 20 percent, utilities were up 9 percent and trucks were up 25 percent. Year-to-date, Ford car sales were up 18 percent, utilities were up 15 percent and trucks were up 28 percent. Cars Fiesta highlighted the growth in car sales with its best sales month ever (3,846 units). Fiesta, the highly acclaimed, fuel-efficient subcompact, is bringing new customers to Ford with a conquest rate of 62 percent – the highest in Ford's product lineup – and a growing share of the small car segment. "Fiesta customers love their new cars," said Czubay. "Fiesta is our strongest proof point yet that our global growth strategy is working. Now, we're preparing to launch the Focus – the next all-new product from Ford's global product development system." Fiesta has helped Ford increase its share of the small car market, a key element in Ford's U.S. and global growth strategy. The new Lincoln MKX offers best-in-class fuel economy and 305 horsepower – an increase of 40 hp versus the prior model. Utilities were paced by the Edge, up 24 percent, and Escape, up 17 percent. Trucks Ford's F-Series truck posted one of its highest sales months in the last two years and, in the process, became the industry's first product to eclipse the 400,000-vehicle sales milestone in 2010. October sales for the F-Series totaled 49,041, up 24 percent. Year-to-date sales stand at 434,920. Production of the 2011 model F-150 begins this month with an all-new powertrain lineup of four new engines, including a 3.5-liter EcoBoost and a new six-speed transmission that will deliver class-leading capability and fuel economy. This truck lineup will provide up to 20 percent more fuel efficiency than the 2010 models. F-150 pickups with the new 3.7-liter V6, 5.0-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 will be in dealership showrooms later this fall. The F-150 with EcoBoost will be available for sale early next year. Ford's commercial vans also made strong contributions to October's truck sales performance. Econoline, Ford's full-size van, had sales of 7,379, up 30 percent, and Transit Connect, the fuel-efficient, purpose-built van, delivered sales of 2,577, up 70 percent. (November 3, 2010) – Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported October sales of 145,474 units, a decrease of 0.9 percent from the same period last year, on a daily selling rate basis (DSR). On a raw volume basis, unadjusted for 27 selling days in October 2010, compared to 28 selling days in October 2009, TMS sales were down 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year. Toyota Division recorded sales of 124,383 vehicles, a decrease of 2.8 percent from the year-ago month, on a DSR basis. On a raw volume basis, Toyota Division sales were down 6.2 percent from last October. Lexus Division reported sales of 21,091 units for the month, up 12.2 percent over October 2009, on a DSR basis. Volume-wise, Lexus Division sales were up 8.1 percent compared to the year-ago month. Toyota Division Toyota Division passenger cars recorded sales of 68,501 units, a decrease of 16.6 percent from last October. Toyota sales were led by Camry and Camry Hybrid, which posted combined monthly sales of 25,014 units. Corolla recorded sales of 18,636 units for the month. The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid reported sales of 11,731 units. Toyota Division light trucks posted sales of 55,882 units in October, up 22.0 percent over the same period last year. Light truck sales were led by the RAV4 compact SUV, which recorded monthly sales of 14,694 units, up 9.1 percent over October 2009. Highlander and Highlander Hybrid posted combined sales of 8,664 units, up 50.3 percent over the year-ago month. 4Runner posted sales of 4,197 units for the month. The Tacoma mid-size pickup posted sales of 9,028 units, up 4.9 percent over October 2009. The Tundra full-size pickup recorded sales of 7,187 units. The Sienna minivan reported sales of 9,253, up 16.3 percent over last October. Scion posted October sales of 4,654 units. The all-new, redesigned tC sports coupe led the way with sales of 2,162 units, up 112.1 percent over last October. The xB posted October sales of 1,618 units. The x D reported sales of 874 units for the month. Lexus Division Lexus reported passenger car sales of 10,815 units, up 7.4 percent over the year-ago month. Lexus passenger car sales were led by the ES entry luxury sedan which posted sales of 5,153 units, up 21.1 percent over the same period last year. The IS line-up reported combined sales of 3,096 units, up 1.5 percent over last October. Lexus light trucks recorded sales of 10,276 units, up 17.6 percent over last October. Lexus Division sales were led by the RX 350 and RX 450h, which reported combined October sales of 8,569 units, up 6.9 percent over the year-ago month. With October sales of 1,306 units, GX mid-size luxury utility vehicle posted a gain of 297.2 percent over the same period last year. TMS Hybrids TMS posted October hybrid sales of 15,913, down 12.0 percent from the year-ago month. Toyota Division posted sales of 13,681 hybrids for the month. Source: GM News Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac October Total and Retail Sales Increase 13 Percent 2010-11-03 GM crossover sales rise 36 percent during month, are up 64 percent year-to-date GM full-size pickup sales increase 9 percent; are up 16 percent year-to-date Each of GM's four brands increased total and retail sales for the month DETROIT – Driven by strong demand for their popular crossovers, and full-size pickup trucks, October combined sales for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac increased 13 percent compared to October 2009 to 183,392 units. Combined retail sales for the brands increased 13 percent compared to a year earlier and were 8 percent higher compared to September. "Our October results show that our focused plan is working, as our four brands continue to grow," said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. sales operations. "Our sales are up more than double the industry's increase through October, and we've gained almost two points of market share." Year-to-date sales for GM's four brands have increased 22 percent through October, while the industry has increased approximately 10½ percent. During the month, sales of GM's newest and most popular crossovers – Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX – increased 58 percent compared to October last year. GM's mid-sized crossovers – Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse – had sales that were 16 percent higher versus last year. Combined, GM's crossovers improved 36 percent during the month, and are up 64 percent year to date. Total sales of the Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups increased 9 percent for the month. The recently launched Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy duty pickup trucks increased 27 percent compared to September. Deliveries of the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac CTS also continued to rise, up 37 percent and 45 percent over last October respectively. According to Johnson, the company is making the transition to new model year (2011) vehicles more rapidly than the industry, and expects to gain retail market share in October, compared to September. "Of our October sales, 76 percent were new (2011) model year vehicles," Johnson said. "This puts us in good position to continue growing, while moderating our use of incentives." Dealer stock at the end of the month included 85 percent new model vehicles, compared to just 49 percent last year. Month-end dealer inventory in the U.S. stood at about 515,000 units, which is about 37,000 units higher compared to September, and about 72,000 higher than October 2009. Retail sales for Chevrolet rose 7 percent on the strength of Silverado and Equinox retail sales, which were up 3 and 54 percent respectively, and on rising Cruze deliveries (read more). Buick: Buick, the fastest growing major automotive brand in the United States, reported 12,569 total sales, a 39 percent increase compared to a year ago. This includes a 36 percent rise in year-over-year retail sales – the 13th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for the brand. Total Buick sales are up 55 percent for the calendar year to date (read more). GMC: GMC reported total sales of 33,136, a 30 percent increase, compared to the same month last year. This marks the 13th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases, spurred by the best month of the year for the Sierra and retail demand for its crossover SUVs Terrain and Acadia, which rose 75 and 65 percent compared to last year, respectively. For the year, GMC total sales are up 28 percent (read more). Cadillac: Total sales of 13,393 for October were 15 percent higher than last October, with retail sales increasing 41 percent. SRX retail sales were up 56 percent, compared to a year ago, and CTS retail sales increased 70 percent. The all-new 2011 CTS Coupe had another great month, up 28 percent, compared to September. I understand that. Take MB's new 4.4 Turbo V8, it produces 429 hp at 5000 rpm, and 516 lb-ft of torque between 2000 to 4000 rpm. As dwight has mentioned before, higher you try to obtain the peak for torque the less flat the plateau becomes. I was just wondering how much less the plateau would be if we peak both torque and hp at same numbers. Would we see a significant loss in the flatness of the current peak curve (2,000 to 6,000 peak)?

Dwight, one thing I would like your opinion is on, is most of the forced induced systems you propose have numerical value of peak torque less than the peak value of the power. Is there any reason for that? In this case, would it possible to increase the peak torque to match or go beyond the peak value horsepower?

The Audi A4, which can also be considered the competitor rings in at 3,715 lbs with 2.0T FWD set up. God these Germans really put some meat in their cars. I think Regal is 300-350 lb too heavy. That it rings in only 150 lbs less than the much bigger, four cylinder Lacrosse does not bode well. CC weighs 3,150 lbs despite being similarly sized to the the A4 and Regal.
