The 'ole G8 & a lot of new touches
A Horse With No Name replied to caddycruiser's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
As blue said, Spot on mods to an already awesome car. What is that neat Regal I see reflected in the paint on the G8? Looks like a sweet ride also. Chris -
Thinking thoughts about the next car

S 10 or Ranger, yes. I Bought a Ranger from a friends brother who was moving to Miami from Cleveland. Was an Ohio Rustbucket, paid $600 for it, it ran great for two years, got most of my money back out of it. It was 4 years ago that I sold it, still belongs to a guy who has kids at my sons Middle School. With 250K on the clock it still runs strong. A gas hog, but you might want to find an old F-150 like Balthazar clunked. Those 300 Inline sixes run 4ever, I've seen a bunch with 300K plus on the clock. A fullsize Chevrolet truck, 2WD, !/2 ton might also be a great vehicle to fix up. Body panels pretty much unbolt on everything, a bunch of these got clunked so bodyparts are available cheap, and it would make a great lowrider/parts chaser/etc. Also cool would be the Chevrolet Fullsize as a rat rod...Mexican blanket, primer, lower it, Bright red painted steel wheels, and a few "accesories" and you should be set. Will make a great tow vehicle for when you finally see the light and buy an SRT-4 for SCCA club racing and you need to tow to Lime Rock. Chris -
Are you feeling good right know...

Thinking thoughts about the next car

Okay then...my choice... Get a Shadow. From someplace like Arizona or Georgia where it isn't rusted like the other one. Seriously. I have friends that I haven't seen in awhile, they bought a shadow new way back in the way back, looked like death warmed over once the paint started to peel off of the roof and hood. They Painted the car at Maaco, and gave it to their teenage daughter. That was in like 2001. Went by their house the other day, car is still running fine, it wn't die. For me myself...get one of the old Turbo Mopars from the 80's or early 90's. They run like a scalded cat, parts are cheaper than corn flakes, Mopar built a million of them, and they drive good. I once had a two door omno (looked like the Shelby but wasn't one) a decent car. You can still find decent crown vics for the budget you've proposed. Chris -
Massive Burnout.... Chris

True, maybe yes...sad...for sure. At a car show I went to yesterday (that Hell on Wheels thing I was telling you guys about) they had a bunch of old Wagons. I miss those cars... And DF, they had an old Mopar wagon from the early 1970's...was neato car...dark blue...loved it. Chris

IF your thinking cost of car, think resale and aftermarket availability of parts, also. Subies have great resale and have lots of aftermarket stuff available for them. WRX wagons can be had reasonably, possibly not what you would consider cheap. But the performance potential is there and they can be made to go anywhere. You might also consider a last gen Wagon B/D body car. Again, inexpensive, easy to repair, and would be a good family wagon. An old Ford Crown Vic police car would be cool also...hell...for that matter...get an old Crown Vic and a New Charger ex cop car and have a pair! Chris -
In my experience, Carquest has a lot of stuff the other guys don't. Usually I buy stuff like oil and so forth from Autozone because they are the closest. You might want to check out Tire Rack or other online Vendors for your struts...and buying from Tire Rack supports Cheers and Gears if you buy through the website. Chris

Dodgefan- Break down and buy a used Subaru Wagon now that you have a real job. With you and Jessi Chan knocking knees at night, someday you will make a Dodgefan junior. Plus a Subie would be agreat in the snow, besides, you will want one when you visit Camino LS6 in NH in Winter. Seriously, Subie Wagon. Chris -
Happy Birthday, dude! Chris

Buick is already way ahead of Toytoa. Why would moving backwards in design and engeneering make them better in the marketplace? Perhaps Buick could make V12 and leapordskin seatcovers standard. That would make them stand out perhaps, smk? Chris

My son's other friend got lucky...

As bad as it sounds I'd rather have a 72 Hurst Olds Pace car replica than the 'benz. Probably cheaper also. Methinks the boys have had a sexual rite of passage awhile ago, probably more worried about wheels now. Chris -
Nice to discuss on an internet forum, but the Camaro is not going to get any lighter. The cost of fuel is going to go wayyy up a petro supplies go down and China and India get into the car act. Get your Camaro now, in a short while it will be gone with the wind. There will be no 2018 or 2020 Camaro's, methinks. Chris
-
Sounds right to me, actually Camino. Chris

I shouldn't even be considering this...

Awesome...I'm driving to Philly in the spring and I want to ride in that thing! Chris -
Today at lunch, a blue and white 59 Corvette parked at McDonalds. Not restored, looked like a well loved survivor. Cool! Out with Oldsmoboi tonight, went to get a sandwich with Olds and my daughter Joanna...we saw a beautiful blue Charger when we pulled back into the lot at Olds hotel. Beautiful Z3 ragtop rolling north on 104 in northern Ross County. Cobalt SS A blue 2010 Camaro out in front of Dave Gill Chevrolet at Broad and Hamilton, and another one on US 23 south of Circleville. Chris

I was just tellind Oldsmoboio about a neat old Toronado that lives in a garage not far from where I live. Right on the street where the olds lives, lives my son Joel's friend Lucas. Lucas just got a Mercedees 230 Kompressor (think I've got that right) as a 16th birthday present. New. Wish I was that lucky when I was sixteen.... Chris

Good to see the belle flying! Nice cars...LOVE the Boss 302, I almost bought a Mach 1 that year and color when I bought my 55 Chevrolet. Love the Buick also...actually both of them but esp. the 1960! Chris

BMW does seem to have lost focus as of late... Chris -
Also, good looking lifted Chevrolet mid 90's Truck, Regular Cab, maybe running 35's. NICE looking redheaded female driving it, as I get closer (truck is in a gas station) I notice a can of Skoal hanging out of her back pocket. She turned around and had a large wad of Chewing tobacco in her mouth! A country girl for sure. I like country females...but not THAT country.... Chris

I do like the SRX myself. Interesting ragtops out and about: Nice maroon early style (1962 or so) Corvair convertible, family with a good looking dog and two kids out for a spin. Nice red MGB, followed by one in light blue that looked fabulous. A black S-10 second gen made into a roadster/ragtop. I normally don't care for this...but this one was well done and looked good. Fullsize 75ish Pontiac Convertible 34 Ford Roadster, Street Rod, Yellow... Lotus Elise with the Top section removed Four really good looking females in a pretty beat up Five Ohhh Foxbody Mustang. Nice looking 76ish Corvette, red, not a convertible but the T-Tops were out adn the driver had a big smile. Great looking C4 Corvette, maroon, top down, older couple driving it. Chris
-
And also glad to see your thinking of buying something that is not a "normal" car, just like GMCTG did with that big caddy. Chris
-
I like it and like that it is a diesel. Love the color, love the condition. If you need help getting the paintwork done I know a few really good guys who are really fair. And if you want to do a WVO (Waste Veggie Oil) conversion, you could do that to. I know that you are a landlord...any of your tennants work in a fast food resteraunt? Lots of VW TDI guys run WVO set ups, not that hard. Know lots of people who run it in big trucks also. Chris

...and yes a 94 Integra would be currently illeagal to build and sell in the USA. It didn't meet the 2003 Crash test safety ratings, same as the prev. gen camaro, which is why it went away. Don't get me wrong, Dwight, I would bring back the 69 Camaro and the Integra Type R if I could, and they would be here tomorrow. It just ain't gonna happen. The other thing to think about is insurance cost. Without that kind of safety rating a Camaro might not be marketable, as no one could afford insurance. Chris
-
The Elise is also a niche market car sold in very low numbers and it costs 50 large. The Camaro will have to sell to a lot of secretarys and such to be viable. Do you have 60 Grand to buy a '10 Camaro? Chris
