I Find Myself in a Moral Quandry...
vonVeezelsnider replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in The Lounge
There aren't any alternative dates, it's a standardized test. I'm not sure about a wake but that would be more agreeable, I'll know when the obit hits the papers... I'm quite sure of the time it will take to get ready for the test, I got the marks back for the practice finals and they were both 70% so I need to make up about 15% (4 Course Units) of knowledge of each course which will take about 18hrs per course (2) to be ready by Monday... that's 36hrs of studying, so yes, it's gonna be tight, and the time is needed. I talked to my mom right away but she didn't have a chance to answer before my dad piped in and he wants me to go, so we'll see, It might require further discussion... She knows about the tests. To answer S.C's question, she wasn't really close, and like her son, we haven't spoken in years, and rarely spoke before that. -
So I'll get right to it. Just got news that the mother of someone I knew (not a friend, not an enemy, just an acquaintance) in elementary school has died suddenly and there will be a funeral on Saturday afternoon. Problem is coming up on the following Monday are the diploma exams for Math and Chemistry both subjects I'm sitting below 80% in and they are worth 50% of my mark (I need to get an above 80 overall average to get into the Business School I want). Just this morning I figured out through calculation that I'll need all weekend as well as until 1am every night till then to be ready for this sucker, and low, while I'm out my mom answers the phone, finds out about the funeral and immediately commits to going. So now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, the funeral is a at the Polish Church one and will take like 3 Hrs smack in the middle of the day and I know I might not have time to go. Don't get me wrong, I want to go, and not just because I feel obligated, but I just am afraid of what effect this may have on my test... And yet I feel somehow stuck because I can't very well send my parents and not go myself my parent's mutual friends from work knew her too... I hate to sound insensitive, but this is the last thing I needed right now... Please tell me I'm not a bad person for being so concerned with my grades . Ever been in this situation? What did you do?

C'est la vie... What will be will be. . How many people in 1964 thought the Corvair would be grudgingly loved today... how many in 1976 thought a 455 V8 LeSabre would captivate an online community?

I feel your pain, I really do. However, I believe that history might not judge W and Company as harshly as one might think. Yes, the contemporary classics from present day GM will be the 5G Camaro, CTS, Cobalt SS, and of course the Corvette, but I think that in 50 years, if I join an automotive forum and say that one of my first cars was an Impala, I won't be bombarded with comments like "Jee whiz that was an antiquated platform by 2007" and "Now that was a platform that led GM astray" but rather with "That was a cool car, too bad it wasn't an SS" or "I heard they were really well built" or, here's the kicker; "I bet it rode real nice, we don't have cars as traditionally American as that anymore *sniff* *motions anemic Epsilon IV 4cyl global midsizer*". Believe it. The W- and G- are the last thing anything close to all American that's gonna come from the General... sure they may be FOMGWD but whatever replaces W and G (not Zeta, if they are replaced at all) will be shorter, narrower, stiffer suspension, less hip and shoulder room, and European in feel, and NO V8s. So enjoy them while you can, you may come to appreciate them later.

Zouch... I might have considered the Wagon... but not the others at all. -

2009 Impala 50th Anniversary Edition

You really can't argue with that logic... Which platform is currently selling near 400K Units/Annually? -
2009 Impala 50th Anniversary Edition

This car might be right up my dad's alley... He says he wants one more W-Body Impala before they pull the plug, this could be it. -
Yeah I know... but there aren't many high end models in Calgary, so cruise is extremely rare as an option where I live. Mine only has it because it was special ordered from the factory (most weren't here) with only five options. Three Speed Auto, A/C, ABS, Tape Deck, Criuse.

Bet it'd be enough to get the Millenia back on the road
-
I too would rather not let it go, but at the end of the day, if that's what has to happen, then I guess there's nothing stopping it. I need a car with cruise control (mine was special ordered from the factory), which would be hard to find in a J-Bod. My parents are also reluctant to invest into the same car that just burned them in the wallet. If it does go for the big one, expect me to get a N-Body Malibu/Alero, or a W-Body Century. There's also a 1998 LeSabre for sale with 30K miles, and a 1998 Eighty Eight for sale for 50K miles. So there are some decisions to be made.

Well, just a little update. I've been driving the car all weekend and it's been running shaking alot on startup lately and not cranking over as nice as it usually does. Coolant is still well down and the light is still coming on. I've got an appt. at my dealer for this week, and they are under explicit orders to pressure test the coolant system and to do a compression test on the engine. I had a discussion with my bosses (parents) yesterday and agreed to a ~750$ Pain Threshold... So to speak, if it costs more that, they'd just as soon see me in a possibly newer, lower mileage car. I'll update after I hear from the mechanic.

Yeah, don't Jags have wiring issues?

2008 Citroen at Canadian Auto show?
vonVeezelsnider replied to Polish_Kris's topic in Citroen and DS
I really hope they come back to Canada, I would KILL to get a black Citroen C6 to go with my Impala! If I lived in Europe, those are just what I'd drive. -
Larger Vehicle for Carrying More People/items- GMC Acadia Everyday Daily Driver: Cadillac DTS Winter Car: 2008 Malibu LT2 V6 or Bare-Bones CTS4 City Car: Chevy Volt Project Car: 1990-92 Toronado, LT1 Roadmaster, or Aurora.

Very Nice! Always wanted a Roadmaster Sedan or Estate. What's the Mileage? Maybe you could use some factory wire wheelcovers on that baby.

They're Oldsmobile replacing commies and what you just posted is exactly why I refuse to do business with a Saturn dealer. That of course doesn't mean that they don't make some really great cars, like the Outlook, so congrats!

Oil level was a little high but not milky at all.

Mom+Dad+Outgrown the crew cab S-10= 2008 Buick LaCrosse?

Heresy! -
Sounds like my father, except with him, his 'ugh' extends beyond the color of his wife's car, becoming almost curmudgeonly... :AH-HA_wink: All kidding aside, I prefer the Ebony/Black interiors because I have big trouble with glare sometimes in the light gray ones and the black I feel, if it's matte enough, will diffuse a bit of it for me.

If not the Head than perhaps more likely the Heater Core or Water Pump. Whatever it is, it HAS to be doing something to my fuel consumption.
-
Alberta's Quite Flat... In the Dustbuster we topped out at 42MPG on one tank. Dad would draft behind semis sometimes but not alot.
-
I hope not but if it is the Head Gasket I'll have caught it (hopefully) soon enough to prevent what happened to my friend's Olds 88 This summer. It's gonna hurt me square in the pocketbook to have a head gasket done, but the car's only got 65000 miles so it's probably worth it. Now, Discounting the Head Gasket, where else could this sucker be leaking?
