  1. Best answer to this question: The car I'm in!
  2. It's just one of the joys of living in a "battleground" state. I'm getting the same junk mail.
  3. Wasn't it great when each year had its own look? So much so, that we can tell all of this from one crappy pic 38 years later!
  4. This is the quote that introduces the book: "Politics and religion are obsolete, the time has come for science and spirtuality." - Sri Jawaharlal Nehru To the Ceylon Association for the Advancement of Science Colombo, 13 October 1962
  5. Found it! The Fountains of Paradise Arthur C. Clarke Copyright 1978 and 1979
  6. Hey, if you want to go that route - more power to you! A 409 '70 Chevelle would be quite cool. Sounds like something I might do (I like staying within brand).
  7. Read that book years ago and still have it somewhere, can't remember the title at the moment.
  8. Ocn is right, the nose is 1970. Nothing too meaningful can be said without more and better pics.
  9. After watching the debate, my reaction is best summed-up in one word: Lame. Very little of any value was offered on either side. I was not impressed. Biden: "blah, blah, blah, George Bush" Palin: "blah, blah, blah, higher taxes" I expected more.
  10. Upon reflection, my 425 might have been rated at 375HP - I seem to recall a sticker on the air cleaner to that effect. Sure didn't feel like it, but as I said, the car was a whale.
  11. If you go that route, be aware that you will need the trans as well (the bolt patterns are different. Likely, you will also need to modify/relocate your crossmember and have the driveshaft re-yoked and possibly shortened/ lengthened. Then there would be the issues of motor mounts and a bigger radiator... Lots of work when you could just bolt in a 454 from a truck. Now if you had an old Cutlass of similar vintage with a tired 330...
  12. Count me in on the pro-beater tally. For me it wouldn't be a high MPG compact, but the principle is the same.
  13. That could be alot of fun in deep snow.
  14. It certainly wasn't the one I had (1967). 2 bbl carb Of course the car itself was a real whale (Delmont 88), so in a lighter car the power would have been a bit more impressive.
  15. Other E-flex varaints are how the Volt will reach economies of scale. The way I hear it, an Opel minivan is next.
  16. I think that there needs to, and will be, a 5th gen Z/28.
  17. I once owned a '67 Olds with a 425. I wouldn't try to use it in your Cutlass or Nova, but I could think of other cars I'd put it in. Mine ran fine without hardened valve seats, but I used a lead substitute in every tank of fuel.
  18. Thanks for the response, I have enjoyed reading your ideas as well. Though we may disagree on the methodology, it is clear that the sort of bold action we both endorse is desperately needed at GM. The basic difference in philosophy here is likely that I see BPG (and a Saturn sub brand) as an alternative to Chevy. I think that this sales channel could be as complete as, and yet different than, Chevrolet. That way, both a Chevy or BPG store would be able to cover most market segments. That would allow greater distance between GM dealerships while maintaining the availability of cars and trucks to cover most all wants and needs of the consumer. The differences in coverage of the segments could emphasize brand definition. Example: Chevy gets the Volt, but Pontiac gets an E-flex sport coupe that looks and performs like a Tesla for less than half the price. I'd love to flesh this out a bit more, but I'm out of time for now.
  19. Enough cars like the Volt will allow performance cars to continue to exist. Celebrate!
  20. No worries, guys.
  21. V8s are so few and far between that I don't think a problem exists there at all. But you have a point about the V6 being a sign that too many similar models are on the market generally. Even so, I think that way too many cars offer a v6 that should not, and that too many V6 cars are built when an option over a 4. For years, people yearned for at least a 6 (perhaps because they missed having an 8 ). The manufacturers responded by offering a V6 in cars that had previously only offered a 4. Then they promoted the v6-equipped cars heavily. The dealers responded by trying to stock more V6 cars and less with a 4. In the process, everyone got a bit lazy and we ended-up with a V6 in damn near everything. So, what I'm saying is that a more critical eye on which cars to equip with a V6 is in order going forward.

  23. I'm so glad that it is Porsche calling Nissan on the carpet over this.

  25. If any amount of logic remains at GM, there will be a Camaro and a Pontiac Alpha with a V8 option.
