  1. I'll grant you that, and I'll raise you a guess that GM probably thought they had more time than they had. Who's to say? BMW and VW aren't nearly as big as GM (here, at least), which is why their drops don't look as bad. Either way, the company most analogous to GM, sizewise, is Toyota, and if America's sweetheart fell 23%, who's to say GM would have beaten them? Even with cars they have now that are better than those offered by Toyota, the mind of the consumer still hasn't changed. Financial difficulties suck, so yeah, that's a problem... but not one that we didn't know about. We all know that many of those have been in the pipeline at one time or another but have been delayed or tabled (Cruze, next Cadillac flagship). BTW, the Chrysler midsizers are the new fleet queens, as the Malibu has stopped being fleeted out as much as before (same can't be said for the G6, however). BTW again, no one has a 50 mpg car. BTW a third time, Jetta > Civic IMO.
  2. FOG, I think we can infer that if Hillary had won the nomination, there would be no Palin.
  3. It's not like once July hit, GM was able to pare down to three brands immediately. It even takes the process of months or even years to phase out a brand, especially one that has been established for so long.
  4. Saw my first Traverse on the road. Not long after, saw a G8 GT in an orange I hadn't seen before.
  5. Filled up on $2.21/gal today...
  6. Bleh... blueberry...
  7. We were still reeling from 9/11. No one was thinking about parties that much... the sentiment was "get Bin Laden." Of course, that changed in 2003 when suddenly Saddam became responsible... but that's a discussion for another thread. This. I'm starting to believe that in the last few weeks, McCain et al. have just been "there" with the clichés and attacks based on old accusations. To (somewhat) get back on topic, it appears that Obama is looking to help the auto industry, but not as much on a corporational level as a working-man level. That's what will resonate more with voters than trying to help out the corporate offices. Of course, both are important, as one can't survive without the other.
  8. Yes SIR! I may make a trip to the store...
  9. While going to the movies with the prettier half last night, I saw a Corvette Z06. Looked so good I thought it was a ZR1.
  10. Hey, using multi-quote is fun. Quite true. Though at this point, many realize that, the intelligent ones anyway. What you look for is who has the best plan to turn things around (or who has a plan at all).

    Early voting?

They don't have early voting in MD. It's on the ballot this year, as a matter of fact. I guess we could have voted absentee, but then I'd feel dirty for lying.
  12. Good to know we're still at the bottom.
  13. Morgantown...
  14. First off, I don't do blind dates. When I met my wife, she didn't have a car. During our engagement, she bought her '95 Intrepid that died during our first year of marriage. She had always said, though, that she wanted a Corolla due to the reliability. But she herself was the one who decided not to get one because "it was boring."
  15. I agree. Remember when, just a few years ago, in North America there were fours in the 3-Series and C-Class? I think this is a good move by Cadillac (if it indeed gets done) to find a medium between good power and respectable fuel economy. Forget what the cylinder snobs say... like you said, it's not like there's going to be just one engine option. (BTW, I'm waiting for smk's response to Dwight... if he can formulate one.)
  16. West Virginia? Your list fails. Especially Morgantown.
  17. The willingness to perpetuate unfounded, untrue claims about Obama is astounding... even in the face of strong evidence.
  18. For real... I look up the Pontiac thread to read about Pontiac vehicles, not presidential candidates.
  19. Until I hear her say anything either intelligent or non-scripted that gives the impression that she indeed COULD lead this country should the need arise, .... .... no.
  20. I didn't plan on voting for John McCain... once Palin first opened her mouth, I knew which way my vote was going. Seriously, guys... imagine her as President after having alienated the party and the campaign...
  21. "Other." Depends on the car. I like it on the Mazda6 and Maxima, but not many others.
  22. I remember indeed... EVERYONE had one of the six. I don't remember who said it in this thread, but maybe Chrysler did just stop trying...
  23. Or a loss of yet another fanbase to the import brands... lost marketshare... then the same thing happening in 10 years with another brand. If it's Saturn, that will be all right.
  24. It appears that several here are ok with that, as long as W is going away.
